Apr 6 23:03:05 Click to Continue ♥ 1 Fantastic performance, and great take on the theme. Embodying two characters, keeping the game fresh, operating on a meta level, having many different interactions, all the while being the best implementation of the theme I have played so far... What a game Strengths: - The vocal performance rocks. Never heard something like this before in a Jam, and that is my 10th Ludum Dare - Great writing - The concept remains fresh thanks to your many ideas Possible improvements: - As said by another player, the 911 operator could use some subtitles Awesome entry!
Apr 6 23:04:26 1m 21s Different Strokes ♥ 4 Great community experience, and awesome take on the theme ! My favorite part of the experience was how polished everything was, from the seamless multiplayer to the paiting system. And there is so much to discover ! (Funny ghosts, quirky staff, community paintings, ...). Strengths: - A great sense of participation and community - Overall polish makes for a great experience - Soothing soundscape Possible improvements: - Mouse FPS commands sometimes behave strangely, especially when doing full rotations (angle of view gets reset). Fantastic job ! Here is a Mondrian, courtesy of my terrible art skills: Picture8.png
Apr 6 23:05:04 38s Battery Low ♥ 6 Immediate, nerve-wracking, awesomely fun game ! I really appreciated how easy it was to jump in and get to grips with the game, as well as all the small surprises regarding items along the way. The visual/audio package was very polished too, and I really enjoyed the digit voices. Strengths: - Easy to get to grips with the game and start getting hooked by the gameplay loop - Great balance that teaches you the constraints you are facing - Cool visuals/audio Possible improvements: - The Pixel Font is hard to read. During previous Ludum Dares, I also used pixel fonts, but I recently tried to use high-res UI on top of Pixel Art (à-la-Celeste) - difficult to get right, but easier to read. Great job !
Apr 6 23:05:33 29s Panic ♥ 2 Now that's an aptly-named game! Reminds me of the peak of the Covid pandemic... Great gameplay, great mood, and awesome package overall. I loved the care put into the design of the town and the difficult curve, as well as the take on the theme. Strengths: - Great difficulty curve: the game starts out simple, but quickly turns into an aggrophobic nightmare - The soundscape is awesome; great voice acting! - Cool strategies can be elaborated. Possible improvements: - Decreasing the panic bar a bit more quickly once you are hidden might make the experience more dynamic - Mouse controls are very sensitive in HTML5 Overall, fantastic game!
Apr 6 23:07:09 1m 36s The Inconvenience Store ♥ 1 Cool game ; it's always a good sign when moving in a 3D space is fun, and you managed to create a polished, enjoyable experience well in line with the theme! Kudos for the office level design, which keeps you on your toes! Strengths: - Gameplay is immediate - Very fun to try to locate the targets using their sound - Cool office, both from a visual and game design perspective Possible improvements: - I never managed to sprint or jump - The gameplay could pick up a little faster All in all, great work!
Apr 6 23:07:40 31s W1P30UT ♥ 1 Fun game! Now that's in line with the theme for sure. Really enjoyed how the main mechanic instantly puts pressure on you. I was expecting a single timer, but quickly went "Oh sh*t" when I saw the black wall coming at high speed towards me. Strengths: - Cool game design (Maze + Wall) - Great theme! I did not launch the game immediately and instead listened to it in the main menu, it was lovely Possible improvements: - Sticky collisions against the walls/corners makegoing into tight spaces retty tricky. Good job!
Apr 6 23:08:03 23s Over the Rainbow Bridge ♥ 1 Dem feels... Really enjoyed the game and its atmosphere - great achievement for a compo game! Kudos for the text and the background art - that's great dithering work and color choice! Strengths: - Very well written - The toned down palette and melancholic music make for a great, nostalgic mood - Immediate gameplay Possible improvements: - The effect of the different objects was a bit confusing during my first playthrough Great job!
Apr 6 23:08:45 42s Starline Rescue Squad ♥ 1 Now that's a fact-paced game! I liked the freedom and the fact that losing control of the ship did not lead to instant death, but instead to discovering other parts of the map. Strengths: - Good speed sensations - Expansive map - Fun soundtrack Possible improvements: - Objects purposes is not always clear - It is maybe a tad too easy to lose control of the ship All in all, good job!
Apr 6 23:09:36 51s Blockage ♥ 2 A definitely unique entry! The intro and outro are still as awesome as the ones featured in your previous entries, and I loved the exploration-based gameplay. Strenghts: - Fantastic art and great soundtrack - The intro and the outro are top-class - I had great fun exploring the network of cells, finding the power ups and making sense of the objective without having to be told what to do Possible improvements: - Some boundaries between cells seem a bit janky, resulting in difficult movement Fantastic work!
Apr 6 23:10:07 31s Quota Qrunch ♥ 3 Great oppressive atmosphere and cool humor. I loved how, despite the objectives being pretty much hard/impossible to reach, you managed to add touches of complexity here and there to the gameplay... And that final twist! Strengths: - Surprisingly addictive narrative - Gameplay is immediate and offers possibilities - Very cool graphics and sound. The manager design is especially memorable. Possible improvements: - I guess the point of the game is to fail inevitably, but sometimes I wanted to try stuff (peeing, using more caffeine) but just had no time for it. Great job! *BEEP BOOP*
Apr 7 17:57:55 18h 47m Cat in the Bag ♥ 3 Really fun game! I enjoyed the art, the music, the writing, as well as the many outcomes enabled by the many objects. I also loved the idea of mapping each object to a keyboard number - makes the game very easy to pick up and enjoy ! Strengths: - Visually gorgeous, and great main theme - Fun writing, full of surprises - Easy to pick up and have fun through the various endings Possible improvements: - Pressing space allows you to skip the current sentence, but I would have loved to be able to have a button to display to current sentence immediately (think text scrolling in Pokemon games). All in all, great game!
Apr 7 18:14:01 16m 06s The Assessment ♥ 2 Awesome game! The level of polish is spectacular, as well as the variety of games. The art is top notch, and the audio at the start was also really impressive. Looking forward to your next games! Strengths: - Top notch visuals and audio - Incredibly polished mini-games - Good balance ; I felt like I was given the opportunity to enjoy your game without struggling too much, and the time allocated to the games was short enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. Possible improvements: - The text boxes at the start are a tad slow Fantastic entry!
Apr 7 21:45:58 3h 31m Carrot Grove ♥ 4 I absolutely adore narrative games and visual novels in game jams, and I have been trying to make good story-based games for many LD editions - this game is everyhting I wish I could have made. Here the various things I enjoyed, in no particular order: - Kikimora - The way you discover the "map" little by little - The quizzes "à-la-Nier" that incentivise you to pay attention to what is being told - The fact that you can go to the Ritual circle from the start - The art, be it the background or the characters - The attention put to the sound design - The multiples endings - A fun, Hades-like introduction to Slavic folklore - The fact that you put a guide to get the best ending What an awesome entry - thank you for making visual novels!
Apr 7 21:47:03 1m 05s Highrail to hell ♥ 1 Really fun action game with a very clever art direction. I loved how readable the movements of the ennemies were, and how the mechanics were put together. Stengths: - Loved the variety of challenges - Very satisfying combat system - Unique art style that I will definitely identify the next time I see it :) Possible improvements: - There was some latency in the movements in the web version, but that perhaps what your warning about speed was about. Awesome game!
Apr 7 21:47:56 53s FreeFall ♥ 2 Great execution of a simple idea! My favorite part was the attention to details, such as the umbrella that deteriorates the more you get it, and the sense of speed that increases. Strengths: - Beautiful graphics. The plane at the start is very impressive. - A simple idea, brilliantly executed. You can start playing the game immediately - Good difficulty balance, you can actually see a lot of the game on your first playthrough Possible improvements: - Hitboxes are a bit wonky sometimes. Great game!
Apr 7 21:48:21 25s We Need To Talk ♥ 2 Welp that was a great take on the theme, as well as some of the best art I have seen in the jam! As a fan of rhythm games the combos required to execute some of the responses brought a huge smile on my face. Congrats! Strengths: - Outstanding visual style - Very fun gameplay, greatly communicated through the UI - The twist is the most precious thing ever :) Possible improvements: - Sound is hard to make during jams, but all the other aspects of the game were so great, I wish there was some. Awesome job!
Apr 7 21:48:52 31s Balance The Stick ♥ 0 Absurdly great take on the theme, with a simple but addicitve gameplay loop and an endearing visual/audio package. Strenghts: - Easy to learn, devilishly hard to master - Graphics are minal, must nothing else is needed - The rank system is fun and I was pleasantly surprised by additions such as the breeze. Possible improvements: - The physics seem to work in a way that not moving at all in sometimes preferable to attempting a recovery. Great job!
Apr 7 21:49:33 41s DIZT ♥ 1 I absolutely loved the CRT filter, the dark mood, and the richness of the gameplay supported by all the interactbles. Shooting zombies is always a blast! Strenghts: - Great visual design - Shooting feels great: the projecticle is fast and hast impact. Moving feels great, too: the character is fast and responsive - Variety induced by the crates and the car Possible improvements: - The maze-like level design was maybe a bit too much at the start of the game. Great work!
Apr 7 21:50:06 33s IBYH!? ♥ 3 Great heist vibes :D Loved the pixel art, the audio and the variety of challenges. Having an online leaderboard is also feisty, although it tends to throw me into the pits of despair... Strengths: - Always great to discover different challenges - Cool art direction, the audio in particular is awesome - Fun overarching story Possible improvements: - I wish you had a little more time to understand what is going on during the challenges. Cool entry!
Apr 7 21:50:43 37s Malevich in Budapest ♥ 1 Visually appealing game with a lot of cool ideas! I really enjoyed how different from one another the different chapters were, and how polished the whole experience was: Strengths: - Visual minimalism rocks! - Varied gameplay. CHapter 1 was my favorite, I love having to deal with straightforward movement in an increasingly hostile environment. Possible improvements: - I fond Chapter 2 very hard to get a grasp on (you have to have a lot of momentum to actually jump, which removes a lot of your ability to control the sphere...or maybe I'm just bad). Awesome job!
Apr 7 21:51:23 40s Somnipathy ♥ 4 Cool concept, with an implementation of the theme that hits home :D. I loved the expansive level and the various gauges to monitor; kudos for the graphics too! Strengths: - Great pixel art - Fun systems to try to grasp - Huge playground Possible improvements: - I HATE SPIDERS I HATE SPIDERS I HATE SPIDERS I HATE SPIDERS I HATE SP- Great job!
Apr 7 21:52:01 38s Hypercube Warrior ♥ 3 Gameplay-wise, that is probably my favorite game of the jam so far. The shooting mechanic is fun, the encounters are well designed, and walking around a 2D/3D environment is still as fun as it was when I first played FEZ. And did I mention that the music was a banger? Strenghts: - Shooting things! In neatly designed levels! - Great-looking and sounding game - Good balance: the game can get tense, but is pretty fair overall Possible improvements: - Some rooms are way easier than the others, and having players start with a hard room might give them the wrong impression; skewing the odds in favor of easy rooms at the beginning of the game might make for a smoother start (unless you already did so and I am just terrible). Great entry!
Apr 7 21:52:41 40s I Sink Not ♥ 3 Great survival game! Straightforward, yet very entertaining take on the theme, supported by a fun system, gorgeous art, and cool audio. Strengths: - Beautiful to watch and listen to - Invokes the charm of great incremental games - Additions are simples enough that their purpose is immediately understandable Possible improvements: - I wish I could pay to remove some parts...or I might just be a terrible ship-builder... Great job!
Apr 16 16:47:27 210h 54m Fronk Frizby - Qoffee Cuest ♥ 2 Really fun entry! I loved the great prose and the uniqueness of each enemy. From my understanding, additional dialogue options only bring more lore insights to the fights, which was a neat surprise, considering you would not risk dying while exploring the available options. The personality of the foes as well as the soundtrack blended really well to create a unique atmosphere, great job! Strengths: - Great, imaginative encounters - Fantastic soundtrack - I love the fact that each enemy has its own environment. You might have lacked time to make transitions, but I felt like this created a great eerie, almost psychotic vibe to the succession of fight. Possible improvements: - After several jams using pixel fonts, I have switched to high-res UI on top of pixel art and am happy with the result. I think doing the same with your game might improve the readability.
