| Dec 11 23:40:50 | Don't Level Up... Yet! | ♥ 0 | The game was fun, albeit it lagged pretty badly when the enemies joined into a large army chasing me around, making the game almost impossible with the low frame rate! The concept is good, and you should definitely polish the level-to-difficulty trade-off to make it better. One thing that intrigued me was the fact "leveling up" means picking a stat to boost. I tried a couple of different stat spreads, but BRate and Regen seemed the most advantageous, and the others almost weren't worth the cost. Additionally, ramming into enemies was more effective to kill them at higher levels than shooting at them (which sort of enhances the utility of boosting health! XD). A couple of suggestions. Perhaps add a limit to the number of enemies spawned at once, or stop making them spawn right in front of you (which happened a bit too often!). Also, there should a keyboard command to level up! Using the mouse in the game feels a bit clunky while enemies chase you around. Overall, it was fun and has potential to be even better! Good work. | |
| Dec 12 00:10:59 | 30m 09s | Money Talks | ♥ 0 | Very nice use of theme! I like the art too, especially the animations, since they added a lot of life to an otherwise static visual novel. I enjoyed the whole game, my only small gripe would be the lack of proofreading (which is understandable since LD is a race against the clock!). On a a sidenote, I could only find two endings, good and bad. I'm curious, how do I reach the third one? |
| Dec 12 03:03:02 | 2h 52m | Larry Kroft and the Temple of Booze | ♥ 1 | Very nice game, and definitely not easy! Reminds me of the indie game La Mulana in the sense that random death is waiting at every corner in the temple. The game is quite polished for a LD game, so good work there! The core mechanic of looting->carrying->throwing had a few problems though, since aiming at enemies was more difficult than it should have been, and trying to get the loot to say on a button is a nightmare. XD Maybe the loot could "stick" to certain objects when you throw it at them? Overall, good fun! |
| Dec 26 20:36:59 | 353h 33m | Headstuck | ♥ 0 | I really liked the game! Very nice concept, clever use of the theme, and certainly a good simulation of the awkward conversations when you have just so many things in your head and have trouble deciding what's the best thing to say. I think most of us have been there at some point! If it was a lot longer and a little bit more slower paced, I could definitely see this as a full-fledged game. |
| Dec 27 03:45:22 | 7h 08m | The Weight of Greed | ♥ 2 | I enjoyed the game, very good use of the theme! I would also have liked to know how many coins you can safely take every stage. But it was still fun to experiment myself with different approaches to collecting coins each level. Also, old man Harpagon has ninja jumping abilities when not carrying anything, haha! And wow, those coins must be really heavy. |
| Dec 27 04:07:11 | 21m 49s | A WIZARD STOLE MY CLOTHES | ♥ 0 | As others have said, the speed change is too steep, which made me actually think it was my PC lagging the game at first! With the slower speeds though, it wasn't too difficult to avoid the obstacles, even while trying to guess where I would land. Levels are also too long, and I often found myself wishing for the current level to end. The game is very funny too, especially the pieces of clothing you get at the beginning! How many stages ar there in total? I only got to the first level of the second world before dying. |
| Dec 27 04:36:57 | 29m 46s | You cry but no one responds | ♥ 1 | This game really nails the mood of not knowing what in the world is going on, and when you reach the part where all your commands change names, your mind is blown. I had a great time with this! You certainly knew what you were doing all the way through. Even with the excess of dead ends. XD I didn't get a feel of the "the more you have, the worse it gets" here, though. You definitely have it better the more things you collect (except for the small and large "creatures" you find, I suppose!). Also, the ending was certainly great narrative-wise, but I'm only left with more questions than answers. Is the doom unavoidable? |
| Dec 28 01:25:51 | 20h 48m | Refuse to Lose | ♥ 0 | Game is pretty fun! I actually felt significant slowdowns for some reason, which meant the game skipping a few frames sometimes and allowing me to suddenly teleport on top of oil barrels. That kept me from playing through the end, sadly, because it was really hard not to get stuck into things or dying without being able to react. I enjoyed the experience, but the best part was probably the audio. Good job with the narration and the music, they were both quite memorable! |
| Dec 28 01:36:15 | 10m 24s | Dunk Slimes | ♥ 1 | I felt some small lags as well, but nothing too major. The game was pretty hard for me! Took me a few tries to get the hang of it. Whoever in the team that gave the idea of adding speed-up oozes in the outer ring of the arena, I hate you. XD The art is clever considering you're not artists, and it works very well. Mops are and will always be cool. Also, props for using Godot Engine! It deserves more attention than it gets. |
| Dec 28 01:50:45 | 14m 30s | Bloc | ♥ 1 | I enjoyed the game, it really had that "zen" feel to it. It felt to me that most of the projectiles have random trajectories, until an audio cue plays, in which a projectile will definitely aim for one of your blocs. If that wasn't just my impression and it was indeed the case, you could add more of those "cue projectiles" to speed up the game, since an audio cue before a potentially dangerous projectile keeps them from being too powerful for aiming directly at your blocs. I quite liked the visuals too. You had a clear art vision for the game and nailed it, and the main menu was both functional and pretty. Excellent job with the game! |
| Dec 28 02:16:24 | 25m 39s | Defense 2160 BC | ♥ 1 | Aside from the balance issues (I always tell myself I will try to balance the game in the final hours of LD, but that never happens... And I only do jam, so I can't imagine how rough the compo is!), the game is a lot of fun! I was actually thinking there was something I was missing since arrows weren't always able to kill the enemies on ground fast enough, and the flying enemies tore me apart (even my shied and spear towers), and the ninja snakes completely annihilated me... Only then that I realized the arrows towers were enough to get me going. A couple of suggestions. First, the HUD probably doesn't need to be always showing, and it actually covers part of the usable game area, so there should be a way to hide it (or rather, keep it auto-hidden with a way to show it). Also, perhaps spawn enemies not too far offscreen, or keep them invincible until they reach the edge of the screen? That way you can't overpower them before they even show up to the player. Oh, and making the towers and enemies smaller would allow the screen to fit more stuff, and you could see enemies for longer, which I think would add to the game. On a side note, congrats on using C. It's a great language but a handful for making games, especially on a limited timeframe! Though I didn't like the choice for a font, it was hard to read for me. Oh, and the art for the towers was really cool! I like how they are all in-context with the Egyptian theme, but also nicely animated to perform their attack. Awesome work! |
| Dec 28 02:32:15 | 15m 51s | Super Huber | ♥ 1 | I like the game, unlike regular cleaning, haha. The idea of collecting was clever, but the punishments are a bit on the severe side - you get junk items (which are permanent obstacles), and also the items you were collecting get thrown around, and in random ways that are sometimes nearly impossible to recover from! I even had to ragequit from the game at one point, after multiple successive mistakes. The low poly graphics were great too, though I would have liked more control over the camera, instead of having to fight it at times. |
| Dec 28 02:58:24 | 26m 09s | I Just Hate My Fans! | ♥ 3 | I really like the graphics! Somehow they remind me of Scott Pilgrim. The game was more difficult than I anticipated due to a few difficult jumps, but the super bodyguard definitely saved the day. The main idea of avoiding your fans not to slow you down was rather clever, I only wish the autographs were easier to aim. Man, fans are so clingy these days. The voice acting was a high point too, it really added to the mood. I'm a bit sad for Bill, though I guess he had it coming for playing at a gig even though his sister was marrying that day! |
| Dec 28 03:23:00 | 24m 36s | Jade | ♥ 0 | Unfortunately I wasn't able to solve the puzzle, even with your hints. The idea of a 2D game with multiple perspectives was clever, but it feels like you can only guess at some points, and the increasing darkness and time limit didn't help much. What I enjoyed were the graphics and audio, though. They helped give the game a lonely, hopeless sort of mood that really set it apart from the rest! |
| Dec 28 03:48:43 | 25m 43s | SCRAMBLED | ♥ 1 | This is an impressive entry - while it may be "unfinished" and buggy, it's pretty ambitious for a game jam! The graphics look nice, audio is quite solid, and the map is huge. The only thing I didn't get is the theme, since I didn't have it any worse, the more I collected eggs. Lorelle really got the short end of the stick though. Even if aiming with Alastair isn't easy, Lorelle dies too quickly and before being able to regenerate. And between flying birds and overpowered knights, you really have trouble getting a melee weapon hit in. That said, both characters have great art and interesting voices (though Alastair's is lower than I would expect). I had no trouble finding two eggs and the jumping boots. Now, finding everything else took a long time, haha. Level design pet peeve: try not to overdo it with the ladders. Ramps or stairs work just as well to reach different points of height, and they feel more natural in a forest. I'll be holding out for a polished post-LD version! |
| Dec 28 03:59:12 | 10m 29s | Heavy Heist | ♥ 0 | Great game! The audio and alarm effect were on point to give the game a intense feeling. I only felt that the guards themselves were quite underwhelming. They have ninja senses to detect you, but I don't think I was ever attacked? I only threw a few coins at them, and ran towards the exit with them in tow, not feeling endangered at all. Also, the coins weren't heavy enough to be a huge liability. I escaped with 45 coins, but I'm sure I could have taken more if I kept playing! |
| Dec 28 04:16:09 | 16m 57s | I didn't know we still had that | ♥ 0 | Awesome game! I liked the voices and the graphics a lot. The whole concept reminded me a bit of Hanoi Towers, except much more stressful, haha. I used to think I was good at memory games, and then I got stuck at the 2nd stage and had to rethink things... I'm also surprised that you did everything except for the music. For a simple game, it's pretty polished and fun. Excellent job! |
| Dec 28 07:47:33 | 3h 31m | Hesperidian Trees | ♥ 1 | Like others said, it's easy to break the game - that said, it is fun enough that we bothered to try it, haha! I like the main loop of the game, and while I completely forgot there was an upgrade option, the enemies were always easy enough to kill, or too slow to even have to deal with. Also, I didn't reach the point where the game crashes due to too many trees, because strangely I got a Java exception and everything stopped working, which I initially thought was me accidentally hitting the pause button. The exception was a ConcurrentModificationException at dungrove.Spawner.draw(Spawner.java:46). |
| Dec 28 07:59:06 | 11m 33s | Break-In | ♥ 0 | Very clever idea! Pretty fun too. The balls are a bit hard to aim though, since they don't seem to keep the same angle with every shot! Also, I liked the idea of breaking blocks by hitting your head on them, but sometimes that caused me to just fall through blocks after I land (which often leads to instant death). The graphics are simple too but worked pretty well. Very solid game! Now waiting for a 4-player version for parties. =D |
| Dec 28 08:16:24 | 17m 18s | Team or Greed? | ♥ 0 | Looking past the unfinished or clunky parts, it's cool that you managed to make a splitscreen multiplayer game! It's a bit on the easy side, but it's fun to cut enemies up. Finishing a compo game is challenging, so I understand the lack of music. Good job! |
| Dec 28 19:46:10 | 11h 29m | Get Your Sheep Together | ♥ 0 | I really liked the game! Some thoughts: would be nice to be able to see where the thrown sheep will land. Having to guess meant losing my 4 sheep in the second stage all too quickly. XD Double jumping was a cool idea but it wasn't reliable and sometimes didn't go off, which is why usually I advise having a simple jump that feels good to control over 2 inaccurate jumps. I had fun though, and would like to see the idea being taken further after LD! Also, why mixed feelings? It's perfectly normal not to be able to finish a game completely, and having bugs/missing features/no sound, particularly in your first time. You did well! Just don't give up, making games is tough but very rewarding. |
| Dec 28 21:01:17 | 1h 15m | Hyper Looter Shooter | ♥ 1 | The game is quite polished and fun! Maybe you could have an indication of where enemies will spawn next, since their falling so suddenly (along with the train) makes the top of the map unreasonably devastating. I thought it was strange that the best strategy is not to attack but to let enemies die and focus on the crates (the best weapon in the game is the train!), but it's still challenging to do that. One day I'll get that "NICE!" prompt! I liked the graphics and audio. Not a huge fan of gore, but here it was hilarious, especially after everyone gets run over by a train. |
