LD38 — A Small World

Near kingdoms by Hadik 2017-05-02T08:14:29Z

This is a great mini management game (it would probably sell pretty well on mobile!). The graphics are nice, though it feels it could use some kind of music in the background to up the mood of the game.

One major addition would be to perhaps implement multiplayer as I could see this being fun against real players.

Great work!

Woah! This game is really well polished for a game made in 72 hours! Graphics and Audio in particular, were crisp, clean and cute XD. The levels were great and pretty tricky at the later levels. The animations were great too.

Awesome work!

Really love the graphics and the audio! Game is also fairly simple and easy to understand, yet its still pretty fun. Good job!

Awesome game! Really love the chill music playing in the background, and the graphics were amazing too! I especially love how seamless the transition from the title screen to the game played out. I know this is cruel but, for some reason I love seeing those tiny creatures flew into space XD. Really well polished game!

Great game! Kinda reminds me of bomberman with different sort of gameplay XD. The graphics were nice, sounds were appropriate and helped enhance the mood of the game.

One thing though, I felt that on most situations where I am using the jet pack, I also constantly look at the top left part of the screen to ensure that I have sufficient fuel. One suggestion that might work is to place another meter right next to the character (just a tiny vertical fuel meter), that turns on whenever the character jet packs, but hides when the character is not using the jet pack.

The top left meter will still be there to check for fuel during times when the jet pack is not on, but at the very least, implementing this will cut the amount of time players need to look to the top left of the screen while the jet pack action is going on. This, I believe, may help to enhance the experience the game provides.

Other than that, great game and I really liked the concept :D

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for trying our game and also for commenting. We really appreciate every single rating you guys give!

@simple-blue yes, that's the plan for the next iteration :D

@drestuff Amazing! We never actually got close to inverting our world during the extensive testing we did before publishing the game. We did take into consideration of the world shrinking way pass its actual scale, causing it to invert itself. However, we saw this as nearly impossible and decided to keep it to see if anyone could actually reach that point. You pretty much "beat the game", I can tell you that for sure XD.

@those-30-ninjas That's really weird. I just tried both WebGL and Windows version, both <- and -> keys worked completely fine. Us devs would probably have to look into that once we start updating our game. Also, will definitely try your game soon :D

@yami-no-tenshi-8 That is actually one of the higher (if not, the highest) score I've ever seen so far :O. Good job!

@moski Woah! Thank you so much for the positive comprehensive feedback. Really appreciate it and we're glad you enjoyed the game!

And to everyone else who commented, rated and played our game, thank you very much!

As I read through the comments, there seems to be some issues regarding controls (eg. not responsive or feels weird). If you are experiencing this issue with the WebGL version on Microsoft Edge (default browser for Windows 10), try the Windows build instead, or run the WebGL build using Google Chrome. We tested this earlier with Microsoft Edge and there seems to be issues on how Unity WebGL handles input on Microsoft Edge causing weird input lag and behavior.

Otherwise, the correct input behavior should be that when you hold down the left or right button, the character will gradually turn towards the appropriate direction, and will stop turning once the key is lifted. It should be smooth with no notable delay.

@huminaboz This has already been implemented in the version we posted above ever since we submitted the game. When the rock starts flashing in color, it indicates that munch mode is about to end. This is exactly like what pac-man used to indicate that its power up is about to end.

@inventroom Thank you so much for reviewing our game! Yes the world does indeed deflate/shrink, although it shrinks at a rate that is not noticeable immediately. The rate of shrinking is dependent on the number of leaks present on the world meaning that no leaks = no shrinking happening. One experiment you can try is to not plug any leaks and the world should shrink considerably fast!
