LD46 — Keep it alive

Chicken Little by LeviDSmith 2020-04-20T19:48:11Z

Chicken vs Apple... who could ever expect that apples were such a deadly blunt weapon?

I enjoyed playing the game quite a bit, but when I looked at the leader board was I sure in for a bit of a laugh. Not to make fun of @jcmonkey, but dang that's a lot of highscores placed underneath his name.

For future updates, maybe make the leader board only record the highest score per session?

In any case, hilarious game!

Catapult by the.jahn 2020-04-20T19:52:44Z

Catapulting a cat never sounded like a fun idea until this game! I greatly enjoyed flinging the cat around the screen and collecting the kibble points!

There's one thing that I do want to say, however. Upon reaching the "fling across a floor of spikes and collect the coin above them" level, I realized that the sensitivity of the flinging may be a little bit too low - at least for me.

Maybe increase the fling-iness of the cat?

But nonetheless, wonderful game!

Xeno Tender by _delph 2020-04-20T19:43:33Z

Wonderful aesthetic game about taking care of different space pets with different interactions!

I especially like the slime... he wibbled and wobbled all the day long.

It's a bit confusing what the pet wants at first, however. The different indicators can mean both food and play at the same time while the only clearly defined interaction is napping.

Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed both the artwork and concept of this game!

Bonfire by PapriGames 2020-04-20T19:30:12Z

Sacrificing demonic creatures to a bonfire that allows you to ascend to a higher plane... excellent!

Although the current format of the game appeals to me greatly, I believe that there is one change that might make the logical flow make a little bit more sense.

Right now, the enemies are kinda just random. You could get a spider, a bat, or a demon at any point; this sorta detracts from gradual build up to the ending of the game. In my opinion, it would likely be best to tier-ify the enemies and have them appear only after the previous enemy was defeated.

But, in the end, great game!

Keep Them Alive by jickingx 2020-04-20T19:39:12Z

Interesting take on a matching game! I enjoyed testing my vision skills as I progressed through the levels.

I do have one recommendation though: instead of reducing the amount of sick people on the board each level, why not make the board bigger and bigger each level to the point where you have to squint to see each individual person? This would definitely make the game more challenging instantly.

Other than that, great work! Let's beat out this virus once for all, one game at a time!

Antarctica Story by Nghia Lam 2020-04-20T19:59:51Z

Top notch art combined with an exploration-based platformer? Sign me up!

Although the mechanics and first level were confusing at first glance, I figured out you could dash using Z after my first failure and eventually cleared the game.

If I were to recommend one change to add to the game, remove the lower-half entrance of the first area entirely. I got so caught up trying to pixel-perfect dash through the spikes that I didn't even realize that I had to jump and dash to the upper ledge to grab the apple instead.

Other than that, excellent work!

With a few more features, I could 100% see this as a mobile game on the app store. It just has that charm that you'd find in some other endless runners such as Jetpack Joyride or Doodle Jump. Great game!

Save Bob by Boaz 2020-04-20T19:35:15Z

Everyone knows that birds are dangerous... but birds with knives?! Now that's a whole new level of danger.

Jokes aside, this was a fun clicker game that got me to eco my way all the way up to second tier guns for all four slots and eventually the grenade at the end.

One feature that I think should be added to improve the gameplay would be the ability to move the purchased auto-guns to different slots; or at least place them from bottom-to-top instead of vice-versa.

All-in-all, I give this game two birds, three knives, and five guns out of one Bob!

An Eggscelent Farmer by Sen Kappa 2020-04-20T08:14:12Z

@martintale The game is built using OpenGL and is supposed to work on non-Windows systems as well.

I've just added a MacOS port of the game; but I personally haven't been able to test this cross-platform integration, but (fingers crossed) it should work.

@niterich Ah, I left those numbers in? Those are the basal frame rate and entity counter respectively.

I'll also make sure to update the page to specifically include the fact that you can run by holding down shift.

:P

@suchista Huh, interesting bug! I'm surprised I missed that when I was testing out the restart mechanics.

I was initially planning on adding more levels and concepts to the game (such as pulleys and/or fluffy sheep that break the fall of eggs), but I started to run out of time before I could implement more than just the base concepts to the game.

Thanks for the feedback and the bug discovery!

Keep the Earth Alive! by ColeHorvat 2020-04-20T19:25:57Z

Overall, I really enjoyed playing through this game; but there is one thing that I kinda bothered me while I was playing.

This feature was probably intentional, but I personally struggled a bit with the fact that the cannon couldn't rotate lower than around the 20 degree mark on either side. Perhaps make the range of movement a tad bit bigger?

In any case, excellent work! This is really impressive for time submission!

Social Life by CharlieGray 2020-04-20T17:12:39Z

Excellent aesthetic-based game! The color switching mechanic was a bit confusing at the beginning, but after a while I got the hang of it.

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T17:21:14Z

The thug life dog really got me at the beginning; almost made me believe I was feeding him weed!

One recommendation though, I feel like the controls could be flipped to make them a bit more intuitive. L makes the platform tilt to the right whereas K makes it tilt left - if it were flipped, it would make a lot more sense.

Nonetheless, interesting puzzle game!

Carry the Fire by Ciber_Turtle 2020-04-20T17:22:54Z

Lovely gameplay and aesthetics! Overall, I believe this was a great puzzle level, but I feel like the throwing mechanic could be explored a bit more.

Be a Good Friend by oxlox 2020-04-20T17:18:08Z

I was confused at first what was supposed to happen after you took care of the plant/pet, but later realized it was supposed to be a time-based game!

Are there any easter eggs to be found if you play long enough?

Life Ablaze by Gerbo 2020-04-20T17:09:19Z

Interesting concept! Was a little bit confusing what was what at first which lead to a handful of deaths, but overall a challenging experience.

Keep Your Rage Alive! by cateye 2020-04-20T17:15:19Z

Hilarious setup you've got going on - an angry God who must SMASH to keep his rage fueled. Although the controls work great as is, I think it would be interesting to see if there were a way to control the hammer using the mouse instead; swinging it around from the handle and watching it smash into things like a nun-chuck.

In any case, nice little game!
