LD57 — Depths

Really fun! You had me trying to bruteforce that locker for way too long haha. The lighting is so good, you had me checking EVERY corner multiple times lol.

Some really minor technical feedback:

1) there's a "clip" sound when the atmosphere background SFX loops (pretty common), so it would've been better to make that loop longer to avoid how frequent that "clip" artifact happens (a "better" solution would be to fade out the sound in the loop so when it restarts, it would end up fading in instead of starting the sample at a high amplitude, which causes that 'clip').

2) when the first enemy spawns, there's a hitch for loading resources. Could be because the audio asset is being loaded on demand - should having settings to have it Preload to reduce that hitch.

Haha, love the music! Overall, great quality for the time constraint!

Only thing I'll note is that the first combat was a bit confusing when playing in windowed mode (default on your itch.io link) - the "Start Fight!" is behind the turn indicator, so I thought I was soft-locked for a bit haha.

A little too frustrating to be my cup of tea, but the execution is great! The tutorial was well thought out (gave just enough info to get started w/out being a wall of text) & the jumping has a deceptive amount of mastery. Good job!

So good! My favorite LD57 game so far. I also was convinced we'd do the Doors theme and had tons of ideas for it :laughing:

Only negative thing I can think of is that I sometimes skipped some cutscene things by clicking the text too early (like when you're looking up).

Awesome concept! Feels like Lucas Pope's take on Sea of Thieves haha.

I did feel like I was kinda thrown into the `depths` (harhar) right off the bat - is there a way to pull the ship up? I was trying to find a control to go up/down, but couldn't find one.

@sevadusk appreciate it! We're thinking about doing a bare minimum polish pass after the jam rating is done to fix up movement/collision, balance the gameplay, and add more maps/shops so we can finish the vision of the game.

@p-r thanks for the feedback! Appreciate you taking the time to give it a go.

@p1x3lc0w appreciate the detailed feedback! Totally agree, we ran out of time to implement the abilities we originally had planned (one was even being able to place a ladder to reach higher spaces) & just hooked up what variables we had available right in the engine haha. We'll take this suggestion with us towards a 1.0 release!

Congrats on your first LD! I'm in that same boat, but found that working w/ a group of friends keeps that anxiety in check. Remember... it's only a game :)

Really dig the lighting effects & tense music! It's a bit hard to figure out what I'm looking for in an exit - hard to discern where I should go based on the flat tiling. I dig the sprites you used for the hero & enemies! I think some really basic SFX for attack, taking damage, etc. would go a long way.
