Pretty fun game! I like the concept a lot, and the physics actually feel really great. Good job! That said, I think the execution could use a little work - the hitboxes were wonky enough that I kept getting stuck on what appeared to be nothing. Additionally, The aesthetic of the game makes me think that it would be very fast paced? But in actuality you can't really do that and perform well. Like I said though, really awesome job. I did not expect to see physics this decent from a game jam creation.
Hey, really nice game! Love the theming of the paper princess surrounded by fire - it's very simple and fun, reminds me of the old Fireboy and Watergirl games. And your use of the theme is great, definitely some of the best out of the games I've played so far. A lot of my other thoughts have already been noted by others, but I'll say anyway: having to move with the ring of fire makes the platforming pretty slow, so it's pretty frustrating to die. You'll probably want checkpoints or major character/hitbox tweaks, but you already know that. Really nice game overall though!
Pretty great little game! Though I agree with some of the other commenters that a tutorial would be appreciated - my first two tries were a bit fumbling as I tried to figure out how to buy/sell cargo and fuel. Additionally, I would highly recommend making it so you can't win at the start of the game by just going directly to the portal - it doesn't feel like much of a puzzle that way. Y'all did a fantastic job with the art though! The beginning and ending screens have gotten a lot of love but the UI is really awesome as well :)
This game is fantastic! My only big complaint with it is how easy it is to hover over and select a different attack option than the one you meant. Accidentally parasitized several things I didn't mean to because of that :)
But this is really a great project, thanks for letting me play it!
I really enjoyed your game, which surprised me since I'm not usually a tower defense fan! It definitely could do with some sort of cue for when a new spider spawns, as others have said. Either the compass you scrapped or just a sound if you want to divide the player's attention a bit more.
I do also wish it was a little more difficult to trap the spiders in a circle of archers. Once I figured out you could do it it became fairly trivial. Lastly, the footmen should probably be a fair bit better than they are right now - I never saw them do any damage unless I had an entire army of them, and I ended up just using archers pretty quickly.
Overall though it's a really solid game! Thanks for making it :)
This game is pretty alright. Big props to the narrative team - a bunch of Amaretta's lines made me chuckle. The sound team also deserves praise for the background theme and FX. And I will also highlight that this game implements multiple mechanics and relatively complex UIs very successfully, considering the time limit.
That said, while I appreciate the intention of getting a bunch of beginners AA-sized team experience, I think it would have been really useful to include some more general industry practices here as well. I am specifically talking about the strong need for a style guide for this project. The combination of low-poly 3D models, seemingly unintentionally low-res character sprites, and polished, high-res UI elements just does not work. I obviously can't know about your development practices but it feels like some additional planning on the specifics of how the game would look would have been useful.
Additionally, I wish there was a little more in the game indicating a larger story. I actually didn't realize there was more narrative content on my first attempt, and got tired of the minigames pretty fast. It feels a little like the player is expected to be familiar with games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, which is bad for the beginner player.
But overall, I really really love the concept - and I do think this is an impressive feat given the time limit and the level of coordination that would have been required here. Thanks for letting me play it :)
