LD46 — Keep it alive

Elon-zo (Colony management + Interplanetary Shipping) by TolMera 2020-04-23T11:45:55Z

Very interesting take on the theme, and clearly extremely ambitious. The main thing is that it's rather hard to judge this properly if there's not an active player base to maintain the balance, which is evidently hard during a Ludum Dare where people tend to give a game a go once and then never look back at it again. In terms of actual design, it would be incredibly helpful if the chat window could be collapsed, as it regularly ended up being in the way of other interfaces for me. While it makes sense that the "insufficient wealth" notifications are red, having the same look for the "transaction complete" messages felt a bit odd, since the red exclamation mark parses as an error message. Additionally, when you game over, the notifications just spam the entire page uncontrollably... As simple as the graphics are, I felt like some of them were needlessly large - when I chose Mars for example, it took 10 seconds for the background image to load, leading to a rather undesired scanline effect. Overall a simulator with potential, but not the most appropriate game for a Ludum Dare I think. Congratulations on this achievement though!

Very nice concept and execution. The graphics were fitting and the music was nice. However, I found the earth rotation to be slightly too sensitive to the mouse, making it hard to navigate. Additionally, the meteors destroyed much more land than what was actually on top of it, not just causing the graphical quirk of floating houses, but also making the Modern Age significantly harder because of meteors missing while they should have hit and the associated timer. Very cool concept over, congrats!

SMT V final Boss leak by sadsmile 2020-04-22T21:11:32Z

The volume of the music is incredibly low, especially compared to the sfx, which made me take a while to realise there was any music at all. The actual animations and look of the game are definitely very impressive. However, being able to choose from 5 different skills, even though they were all the same on multiple occasions, made me wonder why you were able to choose from five skills at all. As pretty as the actual engine seems to be, I found that it felt much more like an engine test than an actual game, with not much happening at all no matter what you did. The rather abstract representation of both the players and the boss, resulting in no lore or backstory, also made me feel like I wasn't really part of anything that was going on. I'm sure the actual engine is really promising and you have a bunch of incredible ideas to flesh it out, but for me it felt more like a bunch of behind the scene work and very little actual content. Nonetheless, congratulations on how smooth everything appears to be and for being able to submit something functional with an actual ending!

Very cute atmosphere with the little bacteria. The game froze on my first run (HTML5) when I tried to close the letter of the enemies, but it didn't happen again the second time. I found it rather hard to provide enough food for everyone consistently, and lost the first time because I barely had enough bacteria to provide food/bones and no spare ones to defend. Reminds me of some games I used to play online when I was much younger, so the nostalgia is also nice. Congratulations!

Arex: Contain And Keep by Hare Software 2020-04-22T22:37:55Z

I very much enjoyed playing this game. The graphics are great, very consistent and the animations are flawless. I was a bit sad when I found out it was just those three assignments, especially because I only shocked the subject twice and nothing more happened, but it makes plenty of sense in the 72-hour context. This would absolutely be a game I'd enjoy playing if it were a bit more fleshed out. Congratulations!

You Have One Job: Keep It Alive by Minusc 2020-04-22T21:01:49Z

I particularly enjoyed the fact it just throws the game at you with no explanations, and everything just explains itself. The one downside is that since it's not just a matter of a single button per resource but that some buttons actually affect multiple resources, it's very hard to keep track at the end of what button does what, especially when dealing with the stress of seeing everything go down. I was a bit confused about the presence of the "blood" button at the beginning, considering it didn't appear to do anything, but looking back at it, I guess it's necessary even then in case someone's resource drops. The graphics are simple but very effective and the music was pretty catchy. Congratulations!

Examine, Prescribe, Heal! by Antraxxx 2020-04-23T13:46:57Z

The top part of my screen was cut off, which was slightly annoying, but it luckily didn't cut off anything too important. Waiting between patients is kind of boring. Judging from the previous comments, apparently there is a way to find out if you cured or killed someone before the ending, but it would be nice to have it be more obvious. There's a lot of flavour and the presentation is very nice, but the pacing is so slow you have to wait for much longer than it takes to figure out what someone has. The availability of beds especially felt a bit useless in the current pacing. Overall a very charming game though, congratulations!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-22T20:50:52Z

The art style is very pleasant, although I think the designs of the enemies could have been slightly more varied. It's a lot more efficient to just summon as many cacti as you can than to actually use your staff, which is a bit of a shame because it promotes lazy gameplay. Overall very polished and enjoyable, congratulations!

Lab Rat by Maxathon 2020-04-22T21:34:42Z

Despite having a few problems, such as not always being able to use the butcher's knife, I very much enjoyed the atmosphere. The difference in sound effects for each animal/monster is such a small thing, but helps tremendously with making you figure out who to take care of. The art was very on point and I also enjoyed the music choice. The difficulty curve was easy enough not to get annoyed but also hard enough not to get bored, and every level had something new and unique to add. Congratulations!
