LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Don`t Sleep by Plepletier 2022-04-05T18:39:47Z

Great gamefeel. Animations are real nice everything is smooth. It gets a bit overwhelming a bit too fast. Movement could be improved (dash ? or something) Or the map layout on its own needs a rework.

Sound design is great. Music is fun enough (the way it sounds might become tiring since its an arcade)

The building idea is nice, but the way is implemented could be improved a lot (gameplay wise, the technical aspect is great) It feels fairly weak, canons dont do much, maybe setting some aoe dmg on imapct would make more sense since the game is about waveclear (the main melee attack says it all and feels real good) the building part of the gameplay seems seems necessary to be able to manage the waves, but it feels motly useless, which is why i only playe a single round, felt like i had no reason to try harder.

Overall the main attack and responsivness from kicking the shit out of sheeps is very well done. Nice work

The world and narrative is great !

Music and sound feel is nice and everything. It just feels non interactive, I dont really understand what I am doing mostly, bad icon design i think, the whole arrow thing is unclear, seems like automatic combat with fast forward ? But then why is there several "skills" on the side ? I'm lost.

Also tutorial is wall of text. So no learning curve, which is sad.

I did enjoy the game tho, but pretty much only because of narrative and fun drawings. Music was also quite enjoyable.

Sickly Victorian Boy by CSdoesCS 2022-04-05T19:16:42Z

Great art style.

Mood works well, using the trope of the victorian doctor healing the doomed is a pretty nice touch.

The fact you dont have to click anything to go in and out of interaction is a great idea. I had some trouble figuring out what I had to do past the linen though. Also seems like if i go back and forth in and out of interaction it switches to a new disease randomly (or am I just misinterpreting the dialog variation as such ?) I pretty much gave the guy everything I had, maybe giving him bad stuff makes him worse ?

The problem is you can give him every single item you pick up even if its not helping so you end up having nothing on you when you need it and wasting lots of time..

Good mood, good art, I like the implementation in 3D. well done.

Ghost In The Washing Machine by foxxy 2022-04-09T19:18:44Z

Very nice audio all around.

The comedic vibe is consistent, nice writing. It's a solid contender for the fun award.

Nice game. Really fun. The voice over is great (nice to see someone else performed their own voice overs) the performances are great and fitting each character, it would benefit from a better sound process. Even without a good microphone you can apply EQs and do some sound treatment to clean up the voice / make it sound less hollow (you can also record the sound in a closet full of clothes / use blankets for better acoustics #LowCostAdvice)

The humor and double edged consequences is pretty good, fairly well referenced in history etc. Love it.

Pixel art is real good.

Tidal Wave by BjornStahl 2022-04-05T18:52:30Z

I think this is a terrific idea.

It's quite fresh and seems to have great potential. It needs to find a better way to execute what its triying to do and a substantial amount of improvments in the clarity of gameplay however.

One of the problems is the game fail state is hard to notice. Feels extremely sudden, there should be a larger area of "in between" where you are starting to be overwhelmed and SEE IT CLEARLY (could be done with slopes (if the top of the wall is a rising slope and only full penetration beyond the wall counts as a loss, then you can get A CLEAR VISUAL SENSE of the thing going over the wall, here it seems at some point some ball kinda goes high enough (which is really hard to judge from that far but tbh mostly because you have too much area.things to look at already) and then you lost pretty much immediatly (there is no recourse and you feel like you missed it completly)

Building things seems like a pretty good idea as a core gameplay. But I think what would really make it work is actual ACTIVE ACTION, to waveclear or something along those lines.

Sound. Obviously. I dont mind no graphics, but sound is king.

Anyway its a great idea, you might some low grades in most areas but to me this deserves a good grade on overall, because the idea has potential and its still 'well' executed.

Cards of the Cosmos by popesp 2022-04-05T19:03:27Z

Nice concept.

Sound is good. There is a nice mood to the game. I'm sure the overall cocnept could be refined further and taken the extra mile. I got caught into it against my will.

The upgrading / shop is a nice touch, to make cards feel less of a random mess by introducing them slowly, nice touch.

Decontamination by KenForest 2022-04-06T13:33:16Z

Really love the artstyle. Everything is visually cohesive.

Goose is a nice touch. The mechanics are quite nice and the items themselves feel good to use, no excessive animation time etc.

Main problem is is impossible to find shit with the way things are setup, since sonar only detects short range (for a jam you probably made it detect long range and just have a screen clogged up with dots or... make a map design less confusing, use landmarks some amount of landmarks. The whole only detecting close range is fine but combined with fog and darkness and a large map its just impossible to play past random luck.

However i have no idea what size or shape the map has so you really sell the mood / experience of being lost in a forest.

Everything is quite well executed overall.

@bosco thank you ! aha you're the most detailed audio comment so i respond to you :v_tone3:

Noted, next time we will do an itchy game.

Nightwaker by Bottled up Dark Peace 2022-04-06T22:04:20Z

@garazbolg2 no parrallax isn't inverted. Its just moving so godamn fast that it feels disgusting. Especially in the city. It moves way too fast to make any sense spatially so it feels like the world is rotating.

I tried to ring the "parralax alarm" to no effect, but you can do like me and just pretend the world is spinning, it almost works.

Nightwaker by Bottled up Dark Peace 2022-04-09T19:25:57Z

@angiemon Well, best review so far, and obviously most energetic review.

Yeah well font should be much better, I brushed over it too quickly and messed up the selection (as yo ucan notice the R on the typing section, for instance in staRt is way too jarring, typing font has slightly too much personnality)

Your clicking problems might be because if you fullscreen on itchio you need to click again or controls wont register !

Hole by OlgaVek 2022-04-08T19:41:32Z

This is really good.

I think it's probably the best concept I've played so far AND as an arcade game it just check out. Big time. I could see that being an obscure internet arcade flash game that would have seared itself in my childoohd memory.

The whole mechanic of managing the load just works, its slow enough as to give you the room you need, you just need to git gud. Really well balanced in my opinion (unlike our game) maybe it could benefit from some subtle quality of life improvement on the sticking part. Limbs sticking together is somewhat helplessly annoying, its too often you cant unstuck yourself from yourself.

Graphically i loved your "game profile picture" makes for a great cover. The game on its own is graphically coherent, just has a mood to it.

Things work. It gets fucking akward but thats the beauty of it.

This has replaced "Thanks Socrates" as my favorite game

(you guys also broke the algorythm)
