LD28 — You Only Get One

You Only Get One Limb by vapgames 2013-12-17T05:00:00

That was great, I especially enjoyed the conveyor-belt part. However, I also failed to get past that part after riding around it a dozen times, because the game is currently very tricky even with a gamepad! With some tweaks to the controls (or just some more practice on my part) I see much potential here.

(It reminds me in some ways of the game "You Have No Legs", but with a lot less repetitive clicking, plus cool ropes).

Snowball Carnage by Moist 2013-12-18T03:30:00

Most satisfying snowball-thwacking since Calvin and Hobbes. :D Mrs. Berzee was watching over my shoulder and shouting WATCH OUT FOR THAT GUY. So, fun for the whole family. :P

(alas, I haven't any constructive suggestions -- well, aside from the obvious "more levels" and some kind of silly Story Mode that delves into the psyche and origins of our mysterious hero...).

Flowing Death Fist by turnA 2013-12-17T04:13:00

This was great fun, it has the most important element of these "chain reaction" games which is that slow-motion tension of waiting to see if someone will stray into range at the last...possible...moment... and I liked the gratuitously flashing text as well. =P

I was going to say that it would be nice if the graphics were more than cubes, but then I realized that'd turn it into a game about a man diving repeatedly upon innocently-wandering people and beating them to death. So, um, cubes is probably fine. :P

You only get one... EVERYTHING!!! by Xeke_Death 2013-12-17T03:31:00

Nice game, really embraces the theme. :D I like the profusion of available items (I got them all except Google Glass eventually!) and the random placement of enemies and doors was a pleasant surprise. I just get super sad when I start a new game and level 1 is dark. =P

Dead Planet by Hypnohustla 2013-12-17T04:23:00

Man, aliens are jerks, eh? HERE'S A TIP, ALIENS: if your spaceships are all in the shapes of EVIL SKULLS, you are PROBABLY the BAD GUYS.

I got 87. =) Nicely created! I found it all a bit noisy and stressful, but I think that was the intent and it achieves it quite effectively.

The enemy attack patterns being randomized but somewhat pre-designed was a nice touch, too. (The spiral one is my favorite as it is easy to handle but also makes me feel heroic =P).

Ye Only Get One Aye by TaleLore 2013-12-18T04:01:00

Bwahaharrr. I hope you don't mind if I save these sound files to play at appropriate false-piratey times in my life. So good.

Regarding the gameplay, it took me a while to realize that all the items were treasure (I though I was supposed to dodge the debris/swords/hooks and catch the gold) but once I understood, it was quite manageable.

Abandon Ship by TnT 2013-12-18T03:13:00

It was a little disorienting at first, but as the magnitude of it unfolded I became pretty intrigued. The first ship I was on, I didn't meet any enemies for the first 5 minutes! The second time I played there were 3 aliens in the first room. =P Managed to blow up the ship once, but I left a lot un-done!

If you have a mine in your hands, is it possible to use other items without also accidentally placing the mine? I might've just been doing that wrong. =T

It ran nice and smooth on my computer (and in an Applet! Takes me back to The Days...) and certainly stands out as one of the more ambitious/sprawling entries I've played so far.

(Protip: deciding you're too cool for reading instructions and playing the first time through without knowing how to turn on the flashlight is, um, "elite" mode. >_> ;)

One Match by Tanner 2013-12-17T04:33:00

I did it! "One Match" is a nice theme. =)

It was fairly understandable to me from the outset, though I didn't realize was the percentage counter indicated until playing several times.

I hadn't heard of Chirp Composer before either, I'll have to look into that.

Our Last Hat by Berzee 2013-12-17T03:50:00

Thanks for all the comments so far, all. :)

It's funny that most of you mention puzzles, since at the time I considered this to be more of a "panicking about panicked wizards" action game -- but it sounds like the light puzzling was a hit :D so I may have to give that closer consideration when I add more levels and more polish.

The Wizard's Quest by zebi24 2013-12-17T04:40:00

Nice, runs smoothly and is about Wizards and their Hats so that's worth extra. ;D I wish I was better at it so I could make it to the boss -- maybe I'll give it another shot sometime.

The explosions are pretty, though the fireball noise began to wear its welcome thin after about 500 shots =P

My only other suggestions are: being able to shoot diagonally, and being able to zoom out a little bit more (since when I died it was usually from things emerging from the top of the screen before I had time to react...but maybe that's how it's supposed to be and I am just a slow, old man).

One For All & All For One by BlazingFanfish 2013-12-18T03:40:00

Weird in a good way (also weird in a weird way). =) Adding it to my list of games I'll need to have a second look at later -- I just got stuck wasting all my ONE on a bandit...maybe I was supposed to run for it.

(I felt like I should award this ONE star to keep with the theme, but then I thought better of it =P)

Afterwife by Bribz 2013-12-17T05:23:00

I quite like the atmosphere/graphics/music in this. Controls feel good too, I just wish those red-skull signs were checkpoints like I thought they were the first time I saw them. =)

YOGOB by sprawl 2013-12-18T06:26:00

I had lots of fun with this. It's a good blend of stat balancing and blind guessing / luck-pushing. Here's hoping I see more one-button games revolving around life-or-death impulse purchases, in the future. :D

Tough by anvoz 2013-12-17T04:05:00

Ha! That was pretty tough, but I beat it eventually. (Ok, I read some of the half-spoilers in the comments too. =T)

The enemies' faces when they run into your guy and realize how tough he is...hilarious.

Lazyman Makes a Sub Sandwich by alexc 2013-12-18T03:19:00

"...it's still just lettuce." XD

Cheery little game. Good to encounter a point-and-click adventure. Best secret passage. I did wish there were a couple of actual puzzles to feel smart about figuring out, but I had fun throughout so I'm not complaining. =)

Jump Frog by Jellybob 2013-12-17T17:08:00

I beat it on my second try and saved the day!

haxxor frog >_>

ONE.Platformer by Bogden 2013-12-17T04:47:00

Clever! Started to feel good once I got the hang of the various jumps (especially mastering the use of inertia).

I saw one bug where, on the walljump level, sometimes I would do the first left-jump onto the first left-wall platform, and it would launch me up through everything to the top of the level like a trampoline. But as that meant I got to skip all the difficult wall jumps, I did not mind overly much. :P

The Initiate's Spell by Nut 2013-12-17T05:33:00

Nice music, nice graphics (mmm, chunky pixels), nice everything. I'm going to come back to this one and try to beat it, for after a fair bit of puzzling I am still a mere lowly apprentice!

The Initiate's Spell by Nut 2013-12-18T04:24:00

Hmm, I came back to try beating it with the water-related power. There must be something I'm misunderstanding with that one, because I'm not able to reach the nearest tome at all with that one (or are there different tomes available for different powers?).

The Last Acorn by geoisgame 2013-12-18T03:50:00

I beat the sun! I mean I beat the acorn! I think? Anyhow. =P It was basic, as you say, but also fun enough to replay until I was victorious, and with probably the best story I've ever read about sun-worshiping squirrels.

You can only get peace by Before Light 2013-12-17T05:13:00

Surprisingly relaxing. -____- I liked this a lot. =)

Recommended with headphones (my first time through I just used speakers), to catch all the little nuances in the sounds.

Also recommended is staring at the ceiling light (might only show on desktop version) and then spinning around as fast as possible so that the car noises swirl around you in living 3D. (But sometimes when looking straight up the camera seems to get "gimbal locked" or whatever that's called -- that was the only technical difficulty I noticed =).

Zambles by WeGuys 2013-12-18T02:58:00

Impressively fully-functional!

I was thinking at one point that I was getting tired of kiting zombies, and then I turned around and there was a terrifying face in my face...so that was successful. :D

Random suggestion: better indication of when you manage to score a hit (zombie "ouch" noises, some kind of blood-splatter sprite, etc).

You Only Get One Shot by embero 2013-12-17T03:40:00

Strangely compelling. ^_^ 132 was my best. (Reminds me of that ol' Flash game 'Boomshine', but only sort of).

(Things moved so fast that I couldn't tell for sure, but it seemed like sometimes multiple dots were located at the same position so I'd get a big boost in points from one collision).

One Memory by CNIAngel 2013-12-18T03:25:00

I liked the two memories I was able to play, they were sparkly and/or atmospheric.

(sorry, I rated/played/commented, #VeryRebel :\)

Le Artilleur by sanojian 2013-12-18T02:47:00

Super fun! Old-timey airships in bubbles are very enjoyable. I especially liked the pass-the-ammo mechanic. ^_^

Thanks for not making the player restart from the beginning of the game after death (of which I had many), btw, at least during Ludum Dare. :)
