snake on an etch a sketch is a neat mashup and the red frame looks great. couldnt get going though, the knobs and key hints were cut off at the bottom of the embed on my laptop and tapping keys didnt move the snake. a "press X to start" would help

I really like this. Very simple and nice use of the theme. The controls took me some time to grasp but after understanding what I needed to do I had a lot of fun.

Pretty addictive! The controls felt counterintuitive to me, and it took a while to get a feel for the snake, but I had fun.

Really interesting sketch like ui and game toy! (I somehow wasn't able to control the snake initially, had to restart once for it to work, might be just an exception) Spent a couple minutes trying to get used to the controls, but sadly itch cut off the knobs so I can't see the hint during the game (after trying wasd arrow keys and space, I then saw the hint). I kept accidentally running into my own trail but it is fun to play

@gevernus Thank you for playing! I'm sorry the game didn't display properly on your screen. That's a bit strange, since I used a relatively low resolution (1024×720) as a reference, but I might not have aligned everything correctly.

In any case, the controls are still available on the page if anything isn't displaying as intended. You can start moving right away using the ADJL keys, which is why I didn't include any additional instructions at the beginning. The key prompts actually appear whenever you stop moving, so you can see what each key does.

That said, I recommend downloading the game, as it looks much better in the downloaded version. I'm glad you liked the concept!

@givit-game-studios Thank you! It was actually pretty difficult to come up with an idea I was happy with. In fact, I didn't start developing the game until about 20 hours after the theme was announced!

I know it takes a little while to get into the game, and I could probably have made the onboarding smoother, but once you get the hang of it, I think it can be quite enjoyable. With more time, I might have been able to add more feedback to make things clearer. Maybe something to work on in the future!

Thanks again for playing!

Cool idea! I like the mechanic of spending points to get more attempts. It was interesting trying to decide how much I would risk to avoid shaking the screen. I was a little annoyed by the responsiveness of the controls - tapping a direction often wouldn't move the snake, so fine movements became a game of holding in short bursts, but sometimes it seemed the snake would move twice quite quickly when tapping for just a minute, and sometimes not at all. I got the hang of it after a bit, but it didn't feel especially predictable.

@cupofcuppuccino Thanks for playing! Yes, I've had limited development time, so the game itself is still a rough draft. There might be a bug or two that I'll have to check after the scores are tallied. It's definitely easy to bump into yourself, but remember that if you have at least 10 points, you can remove half of your snake to continue the game!

dblazer63 2026-10-19 22:21 ♥ 1

this is a cool combo. i love how this theme brought us all back to classic games :)

kanity 2026-10-20 10:28 ♥ 1

The hardest part is J L as down/up (and especially since in my head J should make me go UP so I messed that up all the time)! xD That is surely diabolical. I assume it was done to make the game harder, but... DIABOLICAL!

I see how it's a "sketch" game because unlike the usual Snake, we go slow and almost "draw" our snake pixel by pixel on the screen, so it's a different kind of strategy, which is quite interesting!

I think it's impressive you managed to make a game in such limited time frame, so I don't have many complaints, but I would say it would be great if the snake could draw a little bit faster. You definitely need a lot of patience and a cup of tea to slowly go through this game :) Maybe there's some pause in between also? As it feels like sometimes I press the button but nothing happens; almost like there's a little cooldown of sorts? UPD: I tried pressing down on the button and it actually started drawing continously, omg!! I realized that only when I already got my first 10 points T_T

I like the effect when "resetting" the level, the white noise-like one. I like the detail of the knobs turning when we are "engaging" them. Actually looking at that makes me realise it could be another reason for J L choice. As it's located in regards to A D like the right knob is located in regards to the left one (that was a convoluted sentence, sorry)

Also, I think the most fun way to play this game would be to try and make a drawing! :)

bird.png

A bird-like creature when playing as intended. I wanted to finish the beak but I went too close to the line, didn't realize it would be a crash xD

heart.png

Just an attempt to draw a heart xD

It was fun (after I figured how to draw continuosly lol)! ^v^

I approve of the idea of mixing two games that go well together.

@justinmullin Thank you!

I see that several of you have had issues with the controls; I’ll have to look into that at some point after the jam—though I’m not sure why, as it worked fine for me... I’ll see what I can do!

That said, I’m glad you liked the concept and appreciated the mechanic of being able to lose points in exchange for continuing to collect more—since, inevitably, even if you lose a large part of your snake, you can still find yourself so hemmed in that you’re forced to do just that.

Thanks for playing!

@dblazer63 @scorpioffi Thanks for playing!

hagamosvideojuegos 2026-10-20 21:50 ♥ 1

@kanity The J and L keys definitely cause some confusion—it’s actually the opposite of how I originally had it! I changed them because it made sense to me that turning left would move things down and turning right would move them up, but even I get mixed up and have to stop and think carefully to get it right.

I’ll definitely have to find a Tetería where I can enjoy some good blue tea while I try my hand at making drawings in my Snakesketch! I know a place where they harvest and prepare it by hand—they do a fantastic job! 😄

As for the controls, I’ll need to look into them once the voting period is over, since it seems they aren’t working well for everyone... I’m not sure if it’s just an issue with the web version, but I’ll check it out regardless.

Thanks for playing! 🍵

@hagamosvideojuegos

Hehe, I am glad you were satisfied with our tea service ;) Come again to receive your vision of the future! x)

Also, for the record, I was playing the Snake's downloaded version, on Windows; I feel like I thought it was too slow at first, but when I realized I can press the button down and draw continuosly, it became comfortable!

henk 2026-10-21 15:38 ♥ 0

To clarify the issue people are having with the controls: your game starts a timer on key down and then waits for the timer to elapse before triggering motion. If the player releases the key before the timer elapses then the snake won't move. An easy fix would be to move the snake immediately once, *then* start the timer (and also be sure to cancel the timer on key up).

Nice game and very well made as well. Some nice music and I would've been hooked playing this even longer. Well done!

I remember playing with that same magic slate at my grandparents' house when I was little. I remember there were plastic sheets you could put on top of it to play mini-games.

It's a great idea to have combined Snake and the magic slate. 👍

venfola 2026-10-23 20:38 ♥ 0

I thought the concept looked great when I first saw the visuals, but I was a bit disappointed to find out it was basically the classic Snake with different controls. Maybe having to control the knobs with the mouse or something like that could have made it feel a bit more original.

Anyway, the graphics are great and the game is really well executed. Great job!

papaver 2026-10-23 20:49 ♥ 0

Creative combo! The hardest part was remembering which of J and L was up or down ;) I had fun playing with it! But the speed was a bit slow and the sound effects became a bit repetitive. Also, it stuttered a bit sometimes (on web). Well done :)

lloydlobo 2026-10-24 06:04 ♥ 0

Kudos on coming up with this game. Etch A Sketcher meets Snake, and the shake feature that uses earned points is just cherry on top. 😃 Would love to see an extended version with customizable key bindings, presets, and move-to-point bonus features. Wonder what determines the target moves while playing.

With a snake-like wormy game, could add some wobbly stuff to make it more funny and adorable. You got all the right things already! 🙌 Great job!!!

lucky-racoon 2026-10-24 07:28 ♥ 0

The idea for this game is very creative. Etch-a-Sketch and Snake, two old, classic things smashed together to make a surprisingly fun game. I had a tug-a-war on whether or no I liked the key bindings. I like that you stayed true to the Etch-a-Sketch knob movements, but it was difficult and I would often die because I mixed them up. The audio got annoying after playing for a little bit, but it was only the movement audio. Good game, very creative. I got a high score of 119 when I died. Good job!

Fun little game! I really like how it interprets the jam theme!

brusi 2026-10-26 20:30 ♥ 0

Definitely some old tech there! This was a blast from the past.

These knobs were always tricky to control, which makes them perfect candidates for a snake-like game. The game is simple, but I still found myself strategizing about the best path to take.

Cool entry! I enjoyed fiddling with it.
