A fun little city builder!

argensis 2025-04-07 23:16

Small comment: The "HTML5 (web)" link type is meant for games playable in a browser. Yours just seems to link to a download page for a windows build? I see you said you used Unity, it should be possible to export a web build and make it playable on itch directly, might get you more ratings.

This was a pretty cool little game!

alvaroromeral 2025-04-08 09:54

@argensis I know but I wasn't sure it would run well, nevertheless you are right, I'm going to upload a web version and look if it work fine. Thanks!

alvaroromeral 2025-04-08 10:20

@argensis Done! I uploaded a Web Version!

Really liked the attention to detail on the shape of the residential buildings and farms fitting nicely around the hex tiles, leads to some really visually satisfying layouts. There's a cool kind of grungy-ness to the models and textures as well that I think nicely leans into the general atmosphere of a kind of bleak-industrial-roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-the-job-done save the world

kseon 2025-04-08 11:31

remembered the cities in spore Nice game)

cherrybcake 2025-04-08 11:58

Very well made, and the graphics are neat! Impressive :)

harvmori 2025-04-08 20:14

I love building cities and I want to see more buildings!

nicknickolas 2025-04-09 12:00

A nice game to relax for a second, I liked it.

vegasword 2025-04-10 09:37

I loved the art. It's satisfying to see this Brutalist city develop. The controls are a little inconsistent (for example, moving the camera using WASD while selecting the building to place in the UI, or opening the drill menu by mistake while placing a building behind it). Nor is the game very challenging.

alvaroromeral 2025-04-10 15:46

@vegasword Thanks for playing! About the challenging I need to think on something, maybe events that you need to resolve o random modifiers in tiles. I was trying to develop a mechanic to move units around the map and explored but it didn't make it to the deadline

vegasword 2025-04-10 16:18

@alvaroromeral Yup, I think random events and tile modifiers are great ideas to explore!

milq 2025-04-10 17:34

Wow, what a cool game! Honestly, I find the 3D graphics spectacular for a strategy game, it reminds me of Civilization. The resource generation mechanic to keep building is something I've always loved, and this game captures that feeling perfectly. Usually, background music is a nice touch in these kinds of games, even if it's not original, but the sound of the sea is so relaxing that it's not even necessary. I insist, great entry in this edition, great game!

soul-grinder 2025-04-10 20:12

This a neat prototype, with some extra buildings and world events this could be pretty good. Nice work!

mashedpotato 2025-04-10 21:35

I like it a lot! Got the hang quickly and managed to save the world. :muscle: The graphics are nice and the whole concept/background of the game has a lot of potential! The idea of 7 sites per hexagon is refreshing. (Feels nasty to plan and implement. :)

I see you had a lot more ideas than you had time. Hills, water, large building menu. Would be curious where you would be taking the project, if you put more time after LD57 into it!

alvaroromeral 2025-04-11 20:06

@milq @soul-grinder @mashedpotato Thanks a lot guys! @mashedpotato I always wanted to make a 4X tile kind of game like civilization but the thing that always bug me was how much expansion you needed converting the entire world to almost coruscant  . And then while playing Gladius, I saw the idea of multiple building per tile and wanted to replicated in a different way.

kingcosmic 2025-04-12 05:23

I love the concept and how it flows, I think there is a lot to work with here!

stupidhobbit 2025-04-12 06:29

Amazing! Kinda easy, but I quess it's a good thing for a jam game

toilari 2025-04-12 21:04

Cool city builder! A difficult genre for a jam game, but solid execution and easy-to-understand mechanics. The hex grid with fixed number of sites in each hex was an interesting idea. Difficulty was a bit on the easy side, as past certain point, the production quickly steamrolled to victory, but a fun experience nonetheless!

Some form of significant difficulty increment from advancing the drill stages could have spiced things up a bit, there is only so much one can get done in the time limit.

A great jam game, loved it! <3

svenerik 2025-04-13 12:10

Wonderful to see this genre here, I can see that there were great ambitions for it~ Time gives- time takes. I would like to see a post-ludum enchanced version with some more to game-play, atm there's just waiting time, so perhaps some areas interacting with each other? Not sure, excellent work nevertheless!

alvaroromeral 2025-04-16 11:57

@toilari @svenerik Thanks a lot! I intend to keep developing, I already addressed some of the issues and fixed them and now I trying to add some difficulty and mechanics so the game isn't that short. Really happy with your comments!

ciaranw 2025-04-25 20:54

Nice, I managed to reach the core! It took me a bit of time to figure out the interface and realise that I could build additional rings of settlements. It's got kind of a frostpunk vibe to it, was that an influence? I think once I figured that out, it was cool to build up some settlements, but it wasn't too challenging - I think maybe some extra mechanics like proximity/neighbor bonuses might have helped add a bit of strategy to the design. As it was though, I still enjoyed setting up a few districts with roughly the right proportions and being able to fuel my drill to power through to the core! Also the game looked pretty, and the ambient sound gave a good atmosphere (would have been nice to have some music too though) - nice entry!
