@placeholders The author told me after my first walkthrough that you can in fact click on them to detach them. :P

Super funny and charming game, great job!

Having to always remove the limbs manually was a bit cumbersome tough, I think it would be better if the limb that has been out the longest would be used when all four limbs are out. I also got a "uh oh" screen when trying to get past the mushroom. Are you not allowed to touch it or is that a bug?

@bene-labs thank you! if you touch it, you reset yes.

I really enjoyed this one! The climbing mechanic felt very original, especially with the different lengths for the tongue and limbs!

I really only have two bits of negative feedback: - Sometimes with two limbs you could get in a tug-o-war, making it hard to accurately control anything. - Resetting completely on hitting an obstacle is *very* punishing. A checkpoint system would have been a big help.

I really like the character art, atmosphere, and little frog and water sounds.

A very solid and interesting core idea. The implementation is also very good, making the game quite fun and challenging to play, a great piece of work.

Fun and unique little game, nice Getting Over It vibes! The hard reset on first hit was a bit too punishing for me to finish the game. I got quite far and had some ~30mins of fun with the game, until it got too frustrating.

Had fun playing it, great work! <3

Not confident I entirely understood how you're supposed to play this, to be honest. I managed to make it to the mushroom by just kind of spamming the mouse while moving it in the direction I wanted the limbs to go, but I never really felt like I was in _control_ of the character. Most of the time it would just stay still and kind of jitter around. The limb used when clicking seemed to be... random?... unless I misunderstood something I was supposed to. I could disconnect the limbs by clicking them, but I couldn't figure out why I'd want to do that, since when I did I usually just ended up falling. Hitting the mushroom (having assumed it was a background object) and being sent back to the start, while not having seen it for long enough to figure out how I was intended to approach the obstacle, was enough to make me stop playing. Getting past the bump of terrain in _front_ of the mushroom was hard enough for me. I unfortunately don't have the patience to struggle through something I find so unintuitive.

If I've misunderstood something obvious/essential, please let me know and I'll give this another try. I really wanted to like it.

Side note: it's interesting to see a GMS1 game. I didn't know there were still people actively using that engine. I got into using GameMaker around the time GMS1 was officially sunset, so writing GML without proper functions and structs feels somewhat like pulling teeth for me, but I know some people are used to that older workflow.

Sorry, I couldn't make it past the poisonous mushroom even after many retries. :sob: The mechanics are fun, but I think that the artificial diagonal corners aren't a good fit for the mechanics, you just have to force your way through them by spaming throws and that's no fun at all. As for the mushroom... maybe if you could quickly retract your appendages that are about to touch it, well, maybe it would be less frustrating that way. Anyways, good work!

@python-b5 thanks for playing! The limbs go in this order: tongue, arms, legs. Since the tongue is the longest and also holds on to walls the longest, it is often beneficial to attach the rest of your limbs, detatch the tongue, and throw it to make more progress.

Hope this helps explain that :)

Cool game! I liked that the tongue had different functionality from the rest of the limbs. The mushrooms resetting the position all the way to the beginning seemed a bit too punishing, so maybe checkpoints could help a bit. Other than that, I liked the game. Pretty impressive for being made in only 14 hours. I wasn't able to get to the end though..

I feel like it's octodad meets getting over it. Anyways, I figured out how to play this game but since there are no checkpoints, I lost my appetite to retry again after accidentally touching mushrooms. Nonetheless, it's unique game which its own challenges.

Fun game! Controlling the character via their sticky limbs was both wacky and required a good amount of planning. Took a while to get the hang of it, but you eventually get into a good rhythm. I found it interesting that the tongue was longer than the other limbs, made me have to do a sort of hand-off between them to maneuver. I will say it took me a while to realize I could manually detach limbs, at first I just waited for them to automatically detach, which was very boring. Was also a bit difficult to predict which limbs would detach when clicked. I think highlighting the limbs that are going to detach would help solve both problems. Also felt that sending the player all the way back to the start on touching a mushroom was too punitive. I got pretty far, but then my tongue accidentally hit a mushroom that was off screen and got sent all the way back. But overall had a fun time with this one. Nice work!

Unforgiving, but fun! Well, perhaps a little *too* unforgiving. I wasn't able to reach the very end, though I assume I must have gotten quite far, given my long playtime. Still, St. Harold's appendages control well, and I like that there is a distinction between the way the tongue and the limbs work.

I was able to realise pretty early on that things can be detached at will by pressing on their individual timers, which adds some welcome course correction and strategy to what would have otherwise been a rather uneventful climb. Could have benefited from a check-point system, though a few comments have already expressed that sentiment. Otherwise, a very solid entry all around.

Thanks for the game!
