Fun game! I liked the idea that you have to face in the direction of shooting. Added a nice mechanic. There seems to be a bug where once you die, if you press "1" it doesn't resurrect you so you are immediately dead.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD56 → Critter Slayer

Congratulations on finishing a game! That's a huge accomplishment. Most people say they want to learn how to make games but they have trouble starting. You sat down, got it done, and now you are a game developer! Keep it up and I look forward to your next game.
Creating a first game for a Ludum Dare compo is quite a challenge.
This is a place where both experienced and beginners submit their games, which can be quite discouraging for some people. I don't remember ever making it pass top 10% of the games or so, I usually suck here. :D If you can take the pride hit while not getting the best scores, it's cool. Otherwise, don't let it ruin your interest in the game development.
I noticed that the game doesn't have any sounds. Check out sfxr and its clones - it's really a good find for jam games. It allows you to generate dozens of sounds in a matter of 10 minutes. A few pew-pews here and there improve the overall feel of the game. There are web versions for sjxr too (jsfxr or something like that). :)
Congradulations! Very cute game, keep on!
@schsam: Thanks for the kind words! I might fix that bug :]
@candlesan: Thank you. Your game had a neat concept too.
@quasilyte: Yeah I was worried about my ego but really by the end I was just too tired to care about that. All that was left was sense of accomplishment. And people have been super nice here. I was actually going to use JSFXR for the sounds but just ran out of time. Will definitely try to improve that for my next jam. Also, your submission was super impressive!
Great first game! The mechanics that you implemented were well done. The only thing I wished I could do was aim independently of movement.
Nice job for the 1st time! Its mine 1st LD too)
I wish those damn critters would kill each other! Ha-ha. Congrats with finishing this entry!
Not bad. The baddies shoot from the hip, so there's a spot near the top-left where if you camp and continuously shoot to the right you never get hit, since the baddies come at you from beneath. I was going to exploit that to get a super high score, but alas! There is no score.
Hah, the best ending I saw in this game jam :D (I won't spoil it). Good job submitting your first compo! Even when it isn't polished or great, it's still yours and you make a game which is always very cool! :) Continue honing your skills. Wish you luck :).
Hey it's nice simple game. Might be better with score, health items and powerups.
I am really impressed, especially for a first game jam. There are so many reasons I am impressed (and a bit jealous because my Game Jam buddy and I definitely made soooo many faux pas our first time around, and frankly still do) A - Getting it done and staying motivated to pull through on your own B - Making a web-playable version C - Balancing it so it doesn't keep spawning hundreds of enemies making the game unplayable D - Making a well rounded game that works and is playable without (gamebreaking) bugs
There are of course minor things, its nice to have a win condition in a game (if there was one and I just didnt have the skill to reach it, ignore this point lol), and there is no way of respawning except for reloading the webpage. But for 48 hours and the first time around this is impressive, congratulations, excited to see how you'll do next time(s) around!!
Congrats on finishing your first game jam! The only horizontal shooting is an interesting gameplay constraint
