This is a really cool idea! I enjoyed the gameplay once I figured it out. I think some simple things could really improve how you communicate the game to the player like: - Add an outline to the current ability thats being used - When the player is using an ability give them a small tip like when you press walk you could show arrow keys / AD. And when you press shoot you can show a mouse and write like click, hold & aim - Make it clearer which abilities you can still use, so after the player has used an ability you can disable that ability by making the button a bit darker for example. - Show when its the players turn, you could do this by just having text like "Goblin 1 turn..." "Goblin 2 turn..." "Player turn!". Or you could do it by having a row of icons of the creatures and a white border for the creature whos turn it is right now.

I know you have a tutorial but most people skip will skip it or never click it, communication inside the gameplay goes a long way to get the player more into the game and faster. Anyways the game is still obviously playable and fun, really impressive for 48 hours! Well done!

I like the little gnome with the ear wax stick as a bow and matches as arrows.

One thing I felt missing was the clarity of what moves are left and whose turn is it.

Good work.

@jejkobb and @coderaurus thank you for the feedback! I'm kicking myself because I can see what you're talking about. Those were on my burndown chart but were cut for time. Thanks for playing!

Great game with a creative concept! I really enjoyed the gameplay, especially the funny gnome with an ear stick as a bow! 😂 The idea of unique abilities and the ability to control multiple characters adds depth. But overall, an impressive work in 48 hours! 👏✨

I love the shaking head animation when you hit the goblins, and goblins taking aim rather than just immediately firing at you.

I agree that there could be some changes to help the player out a bit, but I had fun playing it :)

@sviborg Thanks for the feedback! I had wanted to add multiple kinds of 'arrows' you can fire - maybe if I keep working on it I will!

@adjo thanks! I had a lot of fun making the animations.

Cool game, I like worms-type games like this. It took me a little while to figure out how to play, but once I did I thought it worked well :)

It's a nice idea, but I got stuck in the third level (I think). I try to walk away from the gobbos after I attack them, but then either they chase me, or I'm being attacked by another gobbo. I can't find the strategy to make it work. The graphics aren't the greatest, but I like the character design of the gnome. I find it also impressive that you made the AI of the gobbos aiming at the player. Good job!

The idea is good, and the art is funny. But the interface need more improvement because it's a little confuse, you can improve with icons highlight, different color to signify what action is available or not, tell if this is player turn or not etc.... It"s a good beginning/prototype but need more polish !

This was fun, I don't usually see this genre of game in game jams. It took me a little to figure out the buttons though, because there wasn't any feedback when you selected one

hacksawunit 2024-10-09 09:46

Very cool concept, but I unfortunately had a lot of technical issues and wasn't really able to get far at all. The jump wouldn't work right, and my arrows wouldn't fire... Maybe something to do with my high-refresh-rate screen? I witheld any ratings, but I want to give you props for the cool classic-style low-rez artwork. I love the texture on that gnome beard!!

Fun reminds me of some stick battle games I use to play

la-bread 2024-10-10 04:31

I freaked out at the Gobbo. Kinda fun, very akin to stick wars. Did feel unfair when the goblins would always land their hits but it did force me to think about my placement.

I really like the look of this game but I couldn't really get it to behave very consistently. I like the concept of a Worms-like game but that you also use those mechanics to move around. Nice use of theme, congrats on the game.
