Bro really combined Overcooked and "ratatouille" :))) It's very nice, though a little bit unintuitive, I didn't immediately guess what to do and why Very cute graphics and sound effects! I like it

@flojiq Thanks for playing! I've never played Overcooked but Ratatoullie was definitely an inspiration :P
Thanks for the info, I guess I should have positioned the player so that they would walk past the sewer before anything else, or maybe made it so that you start with a rat in your hand
It took the first playthrough to figure out how to play it - the main thing I didn't understand at the beginning is that it's a Ratatouille simulator (which I 1000% approve of!) I love that the dominant strategy is just to cook everything as much as possible and cover the tables with it so people can just wander in, sit down, and a meal is already made for them.
Alas the food wastage! That conveyor belt got out of control! So much food thrown in the trash!
The one question I have is - if the entire kitchen is rats cooking everything why is it that a rat can come through on the conveyor belt? Is it a mob hit? Somebody got too drunk on the job and ended up getting served up as food? Seems the rats are working so hard they didn't even notice.
Pretty awesome and impressive title!
Interesting idea! I also found it a little confusing at first, if I hadn't read your hint on checking the sewer first I probably never would've figured it out, I was just running around the kitchen spamming space bar to see what I could interact with.
love these kinds of games! took me a minute to get going but then i got the hang of it. nice work!
Super interesting mechanics and use of the theme, although even with the hint of getting a rat from the sewer it took me a while to figure out that I needed more than 1 rat so I could produce food AND plate the food! after that I figured it out and served 33 customers before failing from the insane amount of them and my rats dying to become food for the next customer. Pretty unique game and I like the theme interpretation.
This is an impressive amount of game to ship in the compo, great job. I second the "Remy plays Overcooked" vibe, it's great!
A couple little bits of feedback:
I had some trouble with the physics collision bits — at one point I had accidentally backed up a line out my door and was hopelessly in the weeds — my culinary rodentia were cooking and plating up a storm, but my legs could only carry me fast enough to keep one table fed at a time (the one nearest the door). I know a big part of the challenge in the game is that the chef's not exactly a speed demon, but I think he might benefit from being a little faster or having a little "dash" he can do to scoot around quicker (Overcooked is a great precedent to draw some inspiration from there!).
My first playthrough I didn't realize I needed to staff each station with a rat, so I wasted a bunch of time trying ot figure out how to do the cooking tasks myself. A little more aggressive tutorializing, or starting with a rat-in-hand or right on the sewer might help!
There's a couple spots where the colliders interact a little strangely with the player — when carrying a rat inside, you have to aim yourself juuuuuuust right to squeeze between the bottom left table and the wall.
All super minor things though, this is an excellent game and an impressive result for compo!
@david-york @gabriel-chan Thanks for playing and giving feedback!
To add to late-game difficulty there is a rare chance for cheese to come down the conveyor belt, which the rats are unable to resist gorging themselves on. I didn't have enough time to perfect the food-spawning rate though, so it's really easy to miss them eating the cheese among the jumble of other foods. I guess you could say the game's dominant strategy matches my dev process as the deadline drew near :P
Didn't understand at first that the rats are the cooks ... not the food! The sounds and music was kinda meh, but kudos on creating them yourself. Some kind of goal/win condition would have been nice. Or is there? I like the smooth controls and the graphics. The guests blocking the way were annoying but in a good way. Recruiting employees from the trash..classy :)
@bearcage @budster16 @googoobachoo thanks to you also for playing/giving feedback! I should have reloaded the page before I sent my last message, heh
I guess the conveyor belt-controlling rat should have had a different arrow indicating they're more important.
I didn't even think about the physics/collision being hard to get used to. I'd probably need to simplify them a little and add more space to the serving area to account for the late-game customer crowds.
The player speed was originally half what it is now, but I increased it when making the game so it would be easier to test my work. I guess what felt like wasted time for me probably isn't fun for players either. I had planned to revert the change but (fortunately it seems) decided not to when it came time to publish . You can still see the old speed commented out in the code: > `@export var PLAYER_SPEED := 18000 #9000`
The current speed felt a little fast to me when not going straight from a to b, a dash feature is a good idea to remove the tediousness of the straight a-b bits though
The sounds/music were done in the final hour of the jam, so I'm not very happy with how they turned out either. I might do a post-jam version just so I can give them a better try. Hopefully it was better than nothing though.
I made the mistake of leaving the goal of the game for later, so I very quickly ran out of time to do anything creative with it. The current goal is to serve as many customers as possible before you fail to serve 10 of them. If you're looking for a challenge my current record is 68, I suspect the serving counts may be very dependent on luck though. I use RNG for assigning customers to tables, and the cheese spawn rates. I should probably look at applying randomness more thoughtfully in the future...
Argh! Those rats need to work FASTER dammit! I struggled to understand what to do at first, I didn't understand you needed to fill up the place with rats, I thought one was enough, Rattatouille taught me wrong.
The collissions between the clients make the place crowded very quickly, maybe they should wait in line or something.
Anyway, great game nonetheless!
It was a bit confusing how to serve the customers at first, but I ended up understanding. I like the art and the game was fun to play. However, I still wished there was a tutorial or an image explaining how to game works. But still nice work!
Damn, those customers really need to chill. its not like i'm mcdonalds over here. Loved the game nonetheless
Nice gameloop
It was fun having my rats taking care of the kitchen! The pixel art is cute as well :) Really nice job making this game in 2 days! If I had some comments to make, the restaurant do get pretty crowded and it's a bit difficult getting to the table you want to serve sometimes, especially since you cant really go around the tables. I also was not sure if there was a specific dish to serve the clients as sometimes they would not go to the table I already served but all waited for the same table to be ready.
Felt like Hotline Miami meets Ratatouille. Very funny. Unfortunately I got trapped by a customer in the corner behind a table.
Now i know why some restaurants have rats for.
The moment I realized I worked in a rat meat restaurant!
Loved this one, took a minute to understand the game flow but it was worth it, very fun!

I really enjoyed playing this game! The idea of incorporating Ratatouille is fantastic and adds a unique charm. However, it wasn’t immediately clear that I needed to gather the rats to start cooking, which caused a bit of confusion.
After optimizing the rats, the gameplay started to feel a bit repetitive, and I think it would benefit from added complexity at that point. The musical effects are good, though they become repetitive during longer sessions.
Overall, it's a fun experience
Rattaoiulle! Ahem, nice service game. I should've realized that it was the rats doing the meals from the name. I believe the game would be better if player starts near the sewer or there were animating rat calling for player there. But anyways, I've managed to learn that and managed to satisfy 23 customers.
