I'm a sucker for a custom engine :)
amazing art! once I got enough followers I didn't really have to do anything
A nice take on the survivors genre. One thing I found a bit difficult was building up my army, and I think the main reason is your attack range is quite small. Maybe increasing it a bit would help with getting the starting forces going. I also really like the art style!
Always cool to see custom engines being used! Nice work :) Did you make the engine during the jam, or did you already have the engine done beforehand?
Thank you all for your kind comments :)
@sinoftheta & @tomknocker44 I like seeing both sides of the coin haha. There's a bit of rng involved depending what spawns you get early. Not all monsters have the same damage numbers. The fire monsters particularly deal more damage than anyone else, so if you can get your hands on a few of them early on, you can really snowball. I do agree that the range needs more work.
@manabreak nah I've been working on my engine on and off for a few months. This is the first jam I'm doing with it and the first actual game with a start and an end. I also did not have sprite rendering before the jam started. I was expecting to make a 3d game at first.
Very cool that it was made with a custom engine!
Custom Engine for custom's Game! Nice!
I really liked the twist of the vampire survivor genre. Did several runs to see what was the most effective strat :P
The game runs a bit slow and is not very responsive.
The idea itself is great, and I REALLY like the idea of defeated monsters becoming your minions.
Good job, and thanks for the fun play.
Thank you for your comment @beebster-games! Would you mind sharing your PC specs ? I didn't get the opportunity to try my game on different hardware so far.
Interesting game! I like it!

Custom engine is awesome, I'm a sucker for the gameplay, the only thing I'm missing is some sound :P
The twist of the vampire survivors formula is so cool I do feel that the enemies move too fast but other than that this is a great game
I liked the character art, overall it was an interesting game.
I like the concept but the game didn't work very well for me. The different enemies all seemed to behave the same as allies, so there wasn't really much strategy in which to pick to use, and after a while I started constantly taking damage without any indicator of why or where from. The minions also felt like they died very rapidly.
@deadinfinity That is very good feedback, thank you. I agree that the main mechanic of the game isn't refined enough. After the jam I found a bug in my ECS implementation that caused some entities to not always tick. The effect of that bug meant that some entities would go invisible and suddenly appear near you. This combined with the punitive attack ranges and lack of animation make it difficult to understand what does damage to you.
I have fixed this bug and will continue working on my engine. Hopefully I can do better next time :)
Great art, and impressive to use your own engine! But wasn't at all easy! I found that the hitboxes may be slightly off, as I was seemingly being hit from nowhere a lot of the time, but great work! A simple exp/upgrade system (even just a single upgrade type) would've gone a long way! Great entry :)
a nice vampire survivor prototype!
Pretty fun! I found that after building up a big enough army it was a good strategy to not move so much and let your minions do the dirty work lol. Nice art
