I enjoyed the game! I also think you 100% hit the mark in regards to the jam theme. And with a little twist ^_^ I like that "dark creatures" are some kind of advanced war machines. The main gameplay mechanic is fun. It seems that all color combinations are the same though, at least I didn't encounter anything other than blue-blue-green-red clockwise, which is a shame. With randomised color combinations it would have been better, I think.
But anyway, this was fun, thank you for making the game!
Nice use of the theme. Perhaps an arrow to show where the mecha is would be nice, otherwise well done the team.
The game is simple but effective. I really liked the creature models and their animations. Having to do a combination to unsummon them is an original idea. Too bad the combinations are always the same but I think that was what you had planned ;).
Interesting use of the theme.
I wanted to send all the creatures back to their world. It's not possible to complete the procedure if the creature is too close to a village or the map boundary because one of the squares is no longer accessible. In this situation, I can't change the color.
Maybe vary the color code for each creature in the return procedure.
The creatures are harmless to the village, I let four of them do it and just the torches were destroyed... and I send them back easily without too much fear for my character.
A soundscape could greatly enhance immersion.
Sorry for the harsh feedback, but I think you've got a good idea that just needs a little polishing.
thanks for your feedback !!
@mongoose-59 : we've tried to reduced the lags, so both LD and postLD versions should be playable, though they may have some lags as the first creature spawn, is seen for the first time and as the first circle is drawn. After that it should go smoother.
@orangedragon, @k-toll, @jean-francois, @zeviper031 : there are no orders for the combination, and the randomisation was dropped in the LD version due to time but was intended and is in the +1week version, with the sound effects that were made but not implemented in time for the LD version ^^
The sense of scale is refreshing. Love the design and animation work of the giant enemy creature, it reminds me of Scarabs from Halo. However, the other assets (environment, player etc.) look quite bland compared to the enemies. Gameplay-wise the idea is interesting, but the execution feels a bit lacking. In terms of audio, the soundscape fits nicely with the scale and mood the game is striving for. The WebGL version was a bit laggy and the gameplay could have done with more balancing and polish, but overall this entry was quite nice. Good job!
I liked the dynamic environment with the machines knocking down the trees and destroying the towers! Everything felt like it was fitting to the game and made sense.
I did have a few issues, like others have said when the machines get too close, I wasn't able to unsummon them and it would have been nice to see which direction they were coming from as well as a marker for where the town was, I got lost after going to do a little exploring lol. Also, my web browser was having some issues when starting the game and once it loaded some of the text was cut off, but overall, it was an enjoyable experience nice work!
The web version doesn’t work very well unfortunately, it is pretty slow, very small, and it cuts the sides of the screen. Also I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do? I could change the color of three squares, but the fourth square in in the village and I can’t go there.
Update: ok, now I somehow managed to get it to appear further away from the village and could unsummon a few creatures, nice! It’s a bit hard to find them, though, except by walking randomly.
I was a bit confused about what I was suppose to do. After a long while a few robot bugs came and I could stand on a circle and change the color. And it looked like they were shooing me with a laser and I'd pop back to the start. I has a circle of colors around me and I think I was suppose to be playing some version of simon-says, but I couldn't figure out what to do.
@tod-semple : you need to color the circles with the same colors as the indicator around you : so in the LD version you need 1 red, 1 reen and 2 blue, and that should unsummon the creatures/robot/kaijus
@fractal, @ty-victorson : yeah we didn't have time to place direction indicators so we tried to rely on the sound for that so I can only encourage the use of a headset to play.
