"Oh, its so nice that gives a option to skip intro? Who'd need that"

10 minutes later

"I seeeeeeee"(super gooooooood

and is like: "Why such good game dont have a screenshot uploaded?" "oh, that's huge spoiler on such dedicated story telling"

(update: I wish I had 10 years of piano practice for this. And seriouly speaking, if the movement is handled by mouse direction, we could spell, no summoning while traveling, that might be cool, and smooth

There's something I really loved about this game! Maybe it's the little kid who summons the forces of evil to wreak havoc. Despite being quite simple, I played this until my fingers started cramping up. Loved it!

I have to comment on a couple of things.

To download the game, clicking on the link doesn't work. I can only download it if I right click and "Save as...".

The other is I think there is a bug that doesn't allow me to interact with the stones. I know there is a version with the bugs fixed but I like to play the compo version, as the time is the same for everyone, and fixing bugs is a fundamental part of the process.

Graphics, Audio and Humor are pretty good

@josemwarrior Okay I'll look into the issue about the download.

I get what you mean with the compo stuff and can agree. The issue with the stone is probably because you try to press 'A' (that's what the tooltip shows). You should use 'E' instead. If you want to give it another try, you'll see more of the game (not much happens before you interact with the first stone).

I played this for longer than i'd like to admit  i think this actually has genuine potential.

sevansevan 2024-04-16 20:15

I think the problem with the stones is that you have to *hold* E for some time to activate them, not just press. Anyway impressive amount of content, I couldn't reach the end :-)

I like the minimalistic look and the humor, and the game is fun. Well done!

This is really, really good. I loved the voiceover narrative and the music is professional-grade. The visuals really work for this and the overall approach to gameplay was solid.

I wish there was a web build so more people would get a chance to play. The stones said "A" but it was actually "E", and since it was a hold rather than a press this threw me for a minute.

Honestly this is one I might return to when I've got more time and am not trying to write a lot of reviews. I really enjoyed it and your design prowess is pretty remarkable.

Haha this was a fun game! The voice over is very nicely done with just the right amount of snarkyness  at first I thought the E did not work, turned out I needed to hold the E button to proceed :-) Some variation in level design would have been a nice addition, as the world felt a bit plain now

Had a good bit of fun with this one. I enjoy the typing element to it. It's a simple to learn hard to master mechanic that I think works well. I enjoy the humor as well. Nice work!

I like the variety of summons and enemies, all animated. Sadly, the background is quite plain, but I guess that's the price to pay for all those sprites.

After a while, entering the same keys again and again gets quite repetitive, but until then it's a very fun game. Also, I felt that a lot of the action was happening off screen, which isn't good. The game is already zoomed out, so I don't know how to fix that easily.

Great job!

Finished the game the other day after several attempts over several days, and I had a blast. And a few laughs as well. Great job @rolly

In fact I'm gonna go again right now and see if I can get up to 10 000 human lives meaninglessly ended

EDIT: okay so I just realized the portals are destructible as well, so I'm going to say I'm satisfied with my almost-1000 corpses from previous run

Overall this was a lot of fun. I think my only gripes are some minor things. It would be nice to be able to see all the summon sequences at once. After using the later ones a couple times, I wound up just forgetting about them because they were too hard to type. Maybe using actual words would make them more memorable, but I understand the game also supports controllers. I really liked the simple art style and the sounds. Some kind of terrain to navigate would add a lot, too, but obviously that is a much more complicated game to make in 48 hours. Well done.

Nice game! Love the pixel graphics.

random-storykeeper 2024-04-22 05:55

Controller support and voice acting in a Compo entry? Colour me impressed.

I almost gave up after the first cutscene as I tried to interact with the stone using keyboard and controller. It would have been a lot more clear if the instructions in-game were to "Press and hold", which is what the game wants for the stones - "press" alone indicates a quick hit of the button and releasing immediately. I only learned this from skimming through the comments.

I think this entry is really strong gameplay-wise. I love the idea of summoning enemies to fend off villagers and trying to find the next stone in the process. Using key combinations to summon the enemies was fantastic, though I wish the controls were set up a little differently. I feel like I failed too many of these combinations because I was trying to press some keys while having to press and hold the shoulder buttons and I really wish the controls for flipping through the summons were just pressing the L1 button not pressing and holding. Then you could have another button just to quit while on the summon screen if needed.

The area also felt a bit barebones and I wish there were some additional background elements to give a better sense of moving through an arena rather than travelling through an empty void. I really liked the little pixel art characters.

The audio was also very strong - there's good delivery in the voice acting that helps to get the humourous lines across. I like nonchalant delivery when there's a game over; that was pretty hilarious. The music was pretty on point in helping to set the mood and complementing the narrative. I like the story and I think it would have been cool if the mud were more connected to the summoning rather than being incidental - like if the kid, while digging through the mud, accidentally dug up a special item that caused a bunch of stones to summon and then the gameplay goes from there. But as it is, I enjoyed this entry overall - for the timeframe you were given, it's got a lot of charm and fun.

What a fun little game with a big amount of humor. I really liked it - especially the intro. At first, the title and the aesthetic remind me to **Alex Kid In The Miracle World** - and YES it's a compliment. The main gameplay is unusual and interesting. It fits with the theme, but this way I have not ever seen it anywhere. The controls work well as expected - and quickly I was able to invoke many things. In less than 2 days, you made a relevant game. With more details, it could be a really good game. I wish you the best. Thank you ++

Awesome dubbing !

I had a problem when using the keyboard and switch to xbox controller, maybe the "loading" key was not clear enough after all.

Pretty cool game ..

I also like the humour touch you added .. and the story :D

The graphism are also great !

Congrat !

Nice game, I liked the voice overs and the idea!

I had some difficulties summoning things quickly enough and would be stuck with enemies before getting a portal, or even a tentacle. Tanks were a great idea, giving you some time to summon, but I mispressed the summons for d-pad so many times. Maybe all the summon recipes could have just had combinations of the four buttons as they are more readily available for the right thumb when using controller... I also tried to use keyboard but I still wouldn't be quick enough to do summons in pressure.

Other than that, the game was nice and I enjoyed the story and summoning a swarm of creatures to push forward to next power. Good work!
