Not a bad tower defense game at all, and thinking about space actually does make it more tactically-interesting than the average game of the genre.
The one huge balancing issue is that the big purple enemies are either excessively tanky or just outright unkillable. Even with the full focus of 6 $1000 towers, I never saw a single one die. Because they're so slow, and your towers seem to always focus on the biggest enemy, this allows for every other enemy to go by, and the game becomes unwinnable by wave 7.
Such an interesting theme use! Incudes to think strategically and build the most effective structure - spiral. Reminds me infinitode with all these shapes.
Nice game i've survive till round 11 died to 69th enemy out the 75 :(

Thank you all for your kind comments and advices! @september-xyzx: This is not a balancing issue, there is really a strategical way to "win" the game  (well, by "win" I mean : go until you can't add towers anymore, and then stand by to see how much money you can get before losing) and I can assure you the "big whales" are beatable (see DeltaMain's comment, and my screen below) - and yet, you didn't see the forth ennemy wich is worse  @deltamain: I don't know Infinitode, I will search it for my knowledge, thanks! I was inspired by another game, even if this one is not very known (it was an old web-game, I don't even remember the name, and is not inline anymore since years) @sacramentix: Great! You can beat more with improved strategical, but this takes time and I know that while testing LD entries, time is essential - but if you want to retry it, you may want to test this strategical way, like example below  LD_54_-_Just_another_random_TD_screenshot_2023-10-03_20-40-49.png

Fun game! Simple mechanics but fun and fits the theme.
But I didn't find the function of demolishing buildings. It was almost full when I was on W7. After that, I couldn't do anything but wait for the game to end.

@kutaryoushinkoku Yes, at first I planned to add a demolishing function, but then I realized that not being able to demolish adds lot more strategical to the game, and enforces compliance with the theme  Thank you for playing it and your comment!

What a fun game! To be honest, I did not read the description and just went in. Then I was like: "eeeuh how do I play?", but after one round I knew what to do: Tower Defense! :D I love those kinds of games.
In one way I think it's a smart decision to not implement some sort of demolishing feature. That way the player needs to be very careful what kinds of defense is built. Also, now there is a reason for the theme to be in here: there is litterally limited space. However, the issue with this approach is that there is some kind of limit to your game. It can't be played as an arcade, because at some point, you can't build anymore defense and then it becomes a waiting game
Some music and/or sound effects would really add to the game :-)

Really fun and addictive, ended up playing for like 15 minutes!

Cool game, it was quite entertaining despite the minimalistic graphics. Would have been great the delete existing towers, but beside that it was fun to play. Sadly I've lost at the 9th wave. Good work!

Hexagons are the bestagons.
I love me my old-school maze-building TDs. I would have liked to hear some sound effects, but had fun time nonetheless.

Im a sucker for TD games as they tend to tickle my brain right! So this hit the spot perfectly! I guess my only gripe is that i think some sound effects and music would go a long way here. Anyways, the gameplay is solid, and overall it feels really complete! Good job dude 👌

This is a really cool TD game! I did mess up a single placement early on that screwed me in the long run though haha
I got to round 10. A fun game which got me to think and strategize. I like the simplicity of the gameplay. It would be good to have sound effects or music but that's a minor point. Had a good time playing this game. Nice work.
Nice concept, but I don't know the scope of the tower.

@yifengqing: yes, each tower have its own parameters, and you can only infer those by test (scope, power, shooting rate, etc.), as you don't know neither the attackers parameters (life, speed, bounty, etc.). It's a choice I made, even if some TD give one or more of those parameters (eg. remaining life of monsters) I was thinking that this would reduce the "limited" aspect of the game

Game was pretty fun but you quickly run out of space and things to do, this means you either just wait for the game to end or restart to game to fix some kind of mistake. Having a demolish function that costs money might make this more interesting so there is still a risk reward kind of situation:

@donvermo: You're right about the second part of the game that is only a watch-the-result part - and if I had not lose so much time, I would have probably at least reduce the stand-by (eg. canceling the inter-wave when all remaining slots are non-buildable, and/or speeding-up the waves, but both implies too much changes in the game structure). However, as I said before, no bulldoze function is a choice, as this increase the importance of first part, wich then become a long-term strategical view and force to make choices between spare some money and space or insuring the victory on the first waves Anyway, thanks for playing the game and the interesting comment - and the screen, even if I found by testing two build paterns surprisingly way more effective than the single spiral  (first is a pattern I name "snowflake", and second a pattern I name "double-walls direct spiral", but I didn't find out yet which one is the best)
Only skimmed over the comments here, but I agree that being able to skip the countdown to the next wave would be very nice - Especially in the end where you only watch. Also being able to speed-up the waves would be cool. I think being able to bulldoze or upgrade towers would go against the spirit of the theme. (But I also would've liked that. :grimacing:)
Very nice little TD game. My layout and score (love that you have a function for the screenshot directly implemented):

more interesting than most TD games
My teammate @genie set a new record just now:

And today @genie reached Wave 24!

Would have like some audio but very competently done tower defense game. Easy to understand. If it did have audio and I'm just not hearing it, my bad. I'm playing on a sketchy audio set up.

@gamebuilder: the first screen is under my best score, but the second is one wave and $51900 above, so you can tell to @genie congratulations from me for being officialy, as far as I know, the record holder :confetti_ball: - also, I think this is maybe the first of my LD's that someone play it to get the record and tell me in the comments, it may seem trivial but I have to say that this means a lot for me, so: thank you a lot! @johnsensei: your set up is not at fault, I did not have time to add sound (nor refining the placeholders/"programmer art") - I would have like to (and I do when I can), but as I published few minutes before deadline, I freezed all the gameplay/arts/assets parts as it was. Even if I never go for Compo and never expect to be ranked on top in any ranking category, after deadline I try to change nothing, and if I think I have to, I only allow myself bug fixes and fine adjustments - f.ex. here, I only tuned existing parameters in order to balance it a little by the minutes after deadline (and only enough to get something more playable for my taste)
@lereveur you’re welcome, and I’ll pass on the praise to @genie. It took her many hours of practice to reach Wave 24, but she had a lot of fun in the meantime.

fun game, like the hex grid, super simple but good game loop.

It's interesting to make of a tower defense on limited space. Perhaps a button to skip the time counter when we have placed all the towers. And maybe increase the speed of the movement of the enemies. Anyway, it works well for a first prototype. Well done.
