Really nice game, loved the aesthetic. I think it can be improved by letting the player shoot constantly by holding space. Apart from that, i enjoyed it so much!

love the idea and the aesthetics!

Style/dithering feels good, sound strenghen vibes. Don't get what happens every 10 sec (a car outside incoming?)

Well done!

The idea alone is mind blowing and really takes me back to the times before I was lucky enough to have a Game Boy light attachment that took way too many batteries. The aesthetic is just *chef's kiss* and the spin on the theme is friggin awesome. Great job!

This is a masterpiece in setting the tone and mood! Sometimes you don't need crazy complex mechanics to be a breath of fresh air. Though the game is just asteroids, but its very nostalgic of a time where we use to sit in cars and play our gameboys! Just thinking about that gave me chills. Love the lofi beats too, I could use more games set to the backseat of this car!

Maybe a 1(?) second time where the gameboy screen is completely black would have added to the impact of the theme. The limited-palette low poly artwork is top notch.

@mgnta You are right! Every 10 seconds car passes lighting up your Game Boy screen

@xorel @joshua-weggartner Thanks!!

@wildmusketeer Thank you! I really tried to nail the nostalgic feeling, kind of pulled everything from my own memory driving home and playing on my console :D

@wavertron Toyed with the idea of making it go blank, but changed it back later. I really wanted to nail the cozy/relaxing feeling, making screen go blank would (maybe) take away from that. Thanks for the feedback tho!

The asthetic is great! Love the art style and mood. Relaxing to play

Really good idea, it felt so real, I just saw myself trying to play pokemon or kirby on my parents car ;)

joshua-pitaniello 2022-10-04 16:56

I think the idea is great and the mood and setting is very interesting

What a deeply nostalgic game! I love the interpretation of sitting in the backseat of a car. The full screen filter to create that retro vibe is FANTASTIC. Small note - I like your version of Asteroids more :) The original asteroids didn't have any inertia slowdown. I guess in that respect it was "realistic" that once you started moving in a direction you would continue without slowing down but I always found that made the game frustratingly difficult to control. This version that you have here you slow down to a stop naturally. I find this way easier to control.

wow that was super nostalgic, thank you for making this!

mrsamafu 2022-10-19 18:13

I love the design , GG :D

chtimy 2022-10-19 20:32

The design is perfect! I would be cool if the screen is lit as well when the car passes, because it is not disturbing at all :) The music is also really cool. Do you compose it?

The mood is fantastic, I love the idea of a relaxed game purely focused on the atmosphere. I think unstable brightness on portable consoles will bring back memories to everyone :heartbeat:

The graphics work really well, you could maybe reproduce the resolution of the Game Boy screen to be more authentic and reduce pixels size difference with the rest
