I got stuck on the hourglass screen. Does that just mean there aren't enough people online? Is there a particular time you'll have people on to play so we can try it out? The idea sounds cool and the title is super creative.

would love to try it!! Might be easiest to get this played by submitting it to streams which are doing ld games, tho you probably know that already

d00kl1 2022-10-03 01:37

Yeah, it will sit there with the hourglass until 4 people join. I'm not sure how this can be avoided, it is meant to be a multiplayer online game with real people (not AI or game logic) making the drawings for the quilt.

d00kl1 2022-10-03 01:45

@untitled-studios that's a good idea!

frib 2022-10-03 01:49

Making a multiplayer game is always risky, lol. I couldn't find enough other players but I'll try and revisit it soon with some friends.

Suggestion: Add some of the log output to the loading screen. I could see people connecting and leaving, so maybe if there's like an indicator of how many people there are in a room, it makes people wait and stay

d00kl1 2022-10-03 01:54

@frib Thanks for the suggestion, I will add that soon.

pinkemma 2022-10-03 02:01

I waited a good 5 minutes but no game. Shame. Bravo for taking the risk of making a multiplayer game though!

d00kl1 2022-10-03 02:07

@pinkemma thanks for giving it a try, I can see sporadic attempts at joining the game in the server logs. Maybe I should limit it to 2 player per room. Hmmm...

Cool concept, I found a few "matches" thankfully relatively quickly Very ambitious doing a multiplayer for a compo game, big kudos for that! The big brushes took a bit of detail away from people but i think made better quilting patterns, so that tradeoff seems good. Fun and cool!

d00kl1 2022-10-03 02:23

@bosco Thanks for playing. Yes, the broad brushes allow the player to stay loose and free, avoid fretting over the details. Plus, you can quickly fill an area and draw an expressive line using thick brushes. Making a quilt is a team effort :-)

nicholas-maddalena 2022-10-03 02:31

haha, not quite sure how to rate the graphics on this one since it will really depend on who's in your party. But I certainly liked the quilt my group made! Also, super impressive to make an online multiplayer game in such a tight timeframe. Bravo!

d00kl1 2022-10-03 02:36

@nicholas-maddalena Thanks for playing, and happy quilting.

Impressive to make a multiplayer game in a game jam. I like the concept, but waiting around for other to play makes it hard. Maybe merging the players picture with the last 3 people to play might have been easier / less waiting for the player?

rein 2022-10-03 05:46

Waited for several minutes but couldn't get into a game :'( Looks nice based on the hourglass though!

d00kl1 2022-10-03 13:41

@haydads That's a good idea. So, if the waiting time exceeds 10 seconds (sigh), take player into single-player mode which uses drawings from previous users. I like it :-)

laurahur 2022-10-03 13:43

The idea is great, total credits for that. Unfortunately, like many others, I didn't manage to get a game going. Maybe a recorded playthrough or something like that on the home page would be nice, to get at least a better idea

adamcyounis 2022-10-05 05:40

This was a really cool idea! I loved that you made a collaborative multiplayer game for the jam that actually works! I would definitely have appreciated a bit more visibility over what was happening between the quilt squares. Maybe a visual slide transition as I moved from one to the next could have preserved some of that context and allowed for the designs to be more cohesive.

Still, I like the frenetic 10s rule and enjoyed seeing the results of what we made nonetheless. Thanks for sharing!

spacefudge 2022-10-05 05:41

INNOVATIVE Tech demo, would love to see what this game could look like with more time put into it

d00kl1 2022-10-05 12:30

@adamcyounis Thanks for playing. Yes, the transition should have been punchier, with more oomph!

d00kl1 2022-10-05 12:35

@spacefudge Thanks for playing. The biggest change to be made is to not force a player to wait interminably until 3 others show up. A single player mode with drawings from previous participants should work to address this issue.
