Game is fun and I really like the simplistic graphics.

Great job! I'm loving the squash on the dash animation, and the way the beeps on the enemies give an almost rhythm game feeling to the combat.

Game is good, but I'm not sure how exactly it fits the theme. Also I found it insanely hard and frustrating because of the flickering light.

amarokczukay 2022-10-04 13:14

the game has nice light effects, but it was unfortunately a bit laggy on my computer

I like the atmosphere and storytelling, with some music this would be a very cool experience, even in its current state it gives the vibes it's going for.

Taking the player's sight away is a bold move, but the mechanics and level design allow the game to flow even with minimal visual indicators. The enemies glowing in the dark before their attack is a brilliant touch, not only that it gives away their position, but you can also approximate your own position based on their orientation.

It would be nice to have the lives reset after each room, as having to die once after clearing each room hurts the pacing. Doesn't do much harm tho since death is a 5 seconds setback at worst.

Good game overall, got hurt 51 times btw

43 times. Honestly the game made me feel super cool for killing things in the dark. Especially around the end, I was able to just dodge and duel things with the lights off. Those were very memorable highlights.

I thought there was a fair amount of variety for the amount of mechanics there. You mixed and matched well, even putting in neat sequences like the part where you just dash forward and pray.

I liked that the combat was crisp and responsive, though it did have some trouble keeping attack direction against the walls (and maybe in neutral? not 100% sure). But otherwise, the fact that enemies are mostly 1 or 2 hits adds a ton to the experience. Encountering a small enemy in the dark for the first time and just 1-shotting it based on timing simply feels amazing. A well executed and well explored game!

I like it! Good job!

@kizilejderha @peachtreeoath thanks for the detailed feedback and nice comments!

@kizilejderha It's good to know that the visual indicators like the enemy glow served it's purpose well, tbh it was quite a last minute addition after finding myself just randomly dashing most of the time. I think some music or at least some ambience would definitely have helped with the mood. And yea probably resetting lives would've been good, I don't really have a good reason for not adding it (it's like 2 lines of code), other than I completely didn't think of that idea.

@peachtreeoath Attacking enemies in the dark is also one of my favorite parts of the game, I tried to design the levels around that, and it's nice to know that you enjoyed it too :) About keeping attack direction against the walls, I think it's cause the player is a circle and if you move into the wall the player "rolls" against the wall, some engine things which I couldn't (or rather didn't have enough time oops) to figure out.

Thanks to everyone else too for the feedback, comments, and complements!

Loved the atmosphere and feel of this; the impact of the flickering light felt almost too strong, I sort of wish you'd be able to see your character a little bit, even in the dark. I found myself getting stuck in the corner without knowing the maps.

Very moody game, love the audio and though I find the gameplay a bit frustrating at first, it was enjoyable trying to push through and use the information the game provides to daredevil my way through. Nice job!

Nice game, finished with 16 death. Atmosphere is great and goes well with the silence of the game. I really like the squishy dash animation. To me total darkness is a bit too much, you end up rotating around the room waiting for the light to come back. The death plates (i don't knwo what they are) aren't obvious, the first time i thought they were pressure plates to open the door. Apart from that great game, good job!

The mood of this game is amazing. I love the simplicity of the game, with its silence and simple mechanics there is an incredible atmosphere that emanates from it. Controls are good and the concept of the lights going out is original and scary. Well done!

Super moody and interesting concepts. Some mechanics could have been tweaked (like heath not regenning between rooms), but a fun entry with a lot of potential.

falk-hoeppner 2022-10-13 05:12

I love this game! It's very simple and mechanically strong, and the story and aesthetic come together very well into a nicely polished package. The main thing I would help is a good intro and outro sound track. There is something about the silence as you play that is very fitting, but I think some audio "bookends" would be fitting, either surrounding each room or maybe just to the game as a whole. Absolutely one of my favorite submissions so far!

ninjacreeper47 2022-10-13 08:11

I felt like the dark timings was too long, but obviously that's pretty hard to get around with the theme specifically saying 10 seconds. I really liked seeing the enemies before they attack, but I'm not sure that was enough for the dark gameplay to be really reasonable to accomplish anything during. I would just make sure to keep moving so enemies wouldn't hit me, but couldn't really accomplish anything until light turned on.

I liked the text narrative a lot.

ironcutter 2022-10-16 14:11

Nice moody entry! I could use some more visual cues to help navigating while the light is off (like walls and/or character position), but the ones already included are already quite helpful and with audio feedback to support them. Well done!

rewzu 2022-10-20 18:49

Simple game but with a great mood. Some audio effects when the traps activates would be useful. I think that greatly reducing visibility, rather than making the screen completely black might work a bit better. Overall neat game. Good job! :D
