The mini games were initially a fun idea but got annoying really quickly, because navigating the 3d room wasn't intuitive and getting interrupted every 10 seconds evaporated my patience. I think the game concept has potential though.

This game really encapsualted it's description. It was amusing and fun

Fun interpretation of the theme! Although the minigates didn't feel so purposeful since they didn't have consequences on the game, nor could you lose them...

charred-axolotl 2022-10-04 02:39

This was a cute idea. I do wish the minigames had some consequences, because after a while I just stopped playing them to get through the main game.

Cute concept. But feels like it might need some work in narrative to make sense of the mini-games.

ryusui 2022-10-04 14:43

This is an all-too familiar mood for me - trying to perform a simple step-by-step task only to get lost in random tangential thoughts. ^_^;

Making egg salad hardly qualifies as a puzzle, especially given the step-by-step directions, but the kitchen is well-realized enough that trying to figure out where all the different tools and ingredients are is engaging nonetheless. And while there might be no penalty for failure in the minigames, the disruption of my train of thought is punishment enough XD

After I found out the minigames really dont matter aside from score they started to feel more like an interruption, maybe if they were easier (especially the roof catch one) and had an impact on the sandwich process it would feel more natural.

ubershmekel 2022-10-05 07:17

Took me 587 seconds to make the egg sandwich. I like this interpretation of the theme. I also felt the minigames at one point became a nuisance. The hardest part for me was figuring out that "make a sandwich" meant to place the toast on the plate. I like the idea of distractions - I wonder if there's a way to make distractions some how affect the 3D game too. Real interesting concept, thank you for the game!

Having a game about distractions during mundane tasks is an interesting use of the theme I haven't seen yet! My playthrough took 285 seconds. Of the minigames, I liked the duck hunt one the most, because doing it quickly could save you a lot of time compared to letting it expire. The emoji drop one I couldn't figure out how to finish early, or whether my actions made a difference.

I had fun playing it overall for the few minutes I did. I really liked the urgency of finding the components for making the egg salad and the minigames were fun. Great job on the 3d and 2d art as well. When I realized that the minigames didn't result in a game over the game felt kind of flat after that as the urgency was lost and the minigames became kind of tedious after a minute or 2. Overall I would say great job, I had fun!

390 seconds. So.... I have ADHD. I was shrieking the whole way through and my partner was laughing at me asking if I felt called out. ...Mebe.

Not knowing if the things cooking would burn while I was stuck in mind-game was intense (I'm just saying this happens to me IRL all the time so my partner is the chef of the house).

When it finished I laughed so hard I was crying.

Very well done. I loved it.

Best use of humour that I've seen so far, and frankly one of the best takes on the theme. It truly is EVERY 10 seconds. Thank you.

Great idea ! Love the references.

For the Duck Hunt i was often loosing my mouse, maybe a custom cursor (an aim ?) could have help.

And maybe it could have been cool to have a score when playing the games, because after a while it seems pointless.

But I had fun !

Well now I know how to make an Egg Salad Sandwich  I ended up finishing the game in 330 seconds. I think the minigames could have had some consequences, so that completing them would feel more rewarding. The instructions also sometimes felt a little heavy handed. The 3d models looked good!

wheelsx 2022-10-05 17:50

Thank you everyone for the feedback. The original idea was for the minigames to have an impact, at least a way to beat the minigame and leave it early. If you beat the ducks or invaders, it does kick you back to the main game, but I didn't have any time to implement any kind of visual feedback, so players probably won't realize it.

We were going to have a hunger meter that fills up over time, and you pass out if it fills up completely, it's game over. Losing a minigame was going to add a notch to the hunger too, making it imperative to beat most of the minigames. We were finishing up the 3rd minigame going into the last hour, there would have been no time for testing and adjusting difficulty, and I wanted to make sure I had ample time for building, as Unity always seems to give me a hard time on that part. And it did this time too, I'm glad I took the extra time for building.

@ryusui @jaaskeh Yeah, the instructions were a bit thorough, I wanted to make sure people were able to get through a good portion of the game without feeling like they were lost. I did taper it down once you get to the step where you make toast. I knew where everything was and didn't want to underestimate the difficulty of finding stuff in an unfamiliar kitchen, especially if you're getting distracted every 10 seconds, so I leaned towards making it easier to know what your next step was.

riphitter 2022-10-05 21:39

pretty neat idea. Interruptions ever 10 seconds was a good mechanic and finishing them early to get back was a nice touch. If you plan on working on this more, maybe add a few more minigames, since the frequent timer makes them get repetitive quickly . Who know cooking could be so much work!

batkoi 2022-10-06 14:09

Interesting idea, but it seemed that minigames could be completely ignored.

owca 2022-10-06 14:11

Super fun! Very creative.

...and now I'm hungry.
