Well done, this is an awesome little spin on a side scrolling platformer. I really enjoyed that this is a reference to an amazing short story by Charlotte Gilman and I really award the creativity especially with the theme of instability. Great work and keep it up

Really facinating project based on a really important piece of feminist literature. I really love how oppressive the visuals feel and the willingness to tackle a heavy subject especially in such a short amount of time. You can really feel the effort put in here for something you care about. Really well done

cakeknuckles 2021-10-05 23:42

the art for this is really trippy and fun, it's a neat interpretation of the source material!

mspawa 2021-10-05 23:46

It took me a while to figure how to play it, and there was a time when I jumped and the character just disappeared... so I just moved the camera without the woman, it was weird xD I missed some music or sounds

stroe-andrew 2021-10-05 23:49

The artstyle is really what I believe being high means... I swear to good, it's trippy AF. Smooth game tho. Love the bouncing eyes :P

Cool entry.

@mspawa Thanks for the feedback! Whoops! Forgot to add a wall there. I will include the wall an audio in future builds though!

It is a nice game. I definitely failed multiple times. I like the design, graphics, and play. Not sure if it was just me, but game would not start in mozilla. It worked perfectly in chrome though. Great game!

omiya-games 2021-10-06 05:30

I like the art direction of the game, and the point-and-click interface provides an interesting way to interact with the environment. I was rather confused with the sudden genre shift when doing the platformer section. And I didn't realize I've reached the end when I clicked on the Yellow smudge.

The presentation is quite excellent, but I also felt disoriented with things seemingly happening without reason or explanation. I don't know if that was intentional.

whenyoucantfindafriend 2021-10-06 18:26

Thanks for the feedback @omiya-games! I'm thinking about adding more mini games in future builds. For example, the short story mentioned looking out the window so I want to add a "whack a mole" style mini game. Do you think this would be more cohesive? I have to admit, I do get carried away with art making so sometimes so my game design suffers (LOL)!

whenyoucantfindafriend 2021-10-06 18:31

@nephronhunter Thanks for the Feedback! hmm... I prefer the mozilla browser as well. I'll have to check this out! I know sometimes the construct 3 engine works better in chrome. The other thing might be a content blocker? I'll investigate though!

omiya-games 2021-10-07 05:21

@whenyoucantfindafriend I think more of a scene-transition effect would help me understand and contextualize why I'm shifting from one gameplay after another.

Really an impressive game

snowpriestess 2021-10-07 07:54

Really nice game, I like your concept and the designs you did! I think the only thing that bothered me while playing was that during the plateformer section, the camera was too close or the jumps too high and I did not really see where I should be going. Good work!

april-lehman 2021-10-08 03:40

Like others I really liked that this is tied to an interesting piece of literature and the artwork is very original and fitting to the story. Nicely done.

jesusonwheels 2021-10-08 03:46

Loved the art style. I wish there was indicators to let you know where you can drop down since often it was a blind fall.

ghatazorg 2021-10-08 12:08

it's a strange universe, I didn't really understand what I was doing but I liked it :)

maybe a little bit of introduction and explanation is missing

essarrgee 2021-10-09 00:46

The surreal style is really nice! I love the art too! My only complaint is the blind jumps in the platformer section. It was often pretty hard to tell where I could land. Aside from that, I like the game! Good job!

tjm 2021-10-09 14:30

The illustration is very nice, but I feel the presentation is held back by the text presentation? The text is very plain, it doesn't really stand out against the background, and it doesn't really match the visual style of the art. If it fit in better I think it would elevate the overall look by a lot!

The level design was fun, and the movement felt okay (except for not being able to jump right after landing), but it would be nice if the level design could give me a little more hint where I was going; blind jumps downwards feel a little uncomfortable when falling in other places resets the level!

Thanks for making this!

The game is interesting, and I felt that the visual design holds it together very nicely. It would be interesting as a full game, if you decide to take it into this direction after the jam.

mateu 2021-10-10 03:54

This was pretty interesting. It would probably help if I actually read the story. Unfortunately, that would take too much time. I think what would help make this feel more polished would be if you intertwined the gameplay with the store more. I get that you were inspired, and that's super cool! But, if you want the majority of the people to understand your game, you should put the material in your game, not outside of it.

hawkin 2021-10-11 23:34

I really enjoyed the surreal art style, as it captured the theme of the short story you referenced. I do agree with others about the text style not really fitting in. For future builds, some audio would really help to pull me into the story that you are bringing to life!

ryusui 2021-10-14 02:29

The pencil art is nice, the platforming is okay. The room segment feels like a waste; there's literally nothing to interact with besides the door and the wallpaper. I mean, to be fair, this is the point in the original story, but I think railroading the player more directly into the platformer gameplay would've worked to this game's benefit.

aeveis 2021-10-14 04:55

I like the concept and how that drove the art direction! The platforming was not bad and had some nice timing elements with the bouncing, though sometimes you couldn't tell exactly where to go and just had to fall a bit down first. For more polish there could be more animation to some the environment, like the eye balls jiggling or mushrooms bouncing a bit after you jump on them. These would make it feel more organic and less "blocky." Keep up the good work!

rewzu 2021-10-19 12:46

Interesting art style. Fun little platformer. I think that it would benefit from some directions for the player, because it might be confusing at first. Overall nice job!

Wow, this is a great game for all lovers of art, science and literature! I would really like to play it, tell me where can I find this game now? I would also really like to find something similar based on Perelandra, this is one of my favorite works.Wow, this is a great game for all lovers of art, science and literature! I would really like to play it, tell me where can I find this game now? I would also really like to find something similar based on Perelandra, this is one of my favorite works. I would strongly recommend that you read at least the summary on the site https://freebooksummary.com/category/perelandra and if you like it, then be sure to read this story. And by the way, I would like to re-read The Yellow Wallpaper. Thanks!
