Overall a very fun game with a nice concept that could be easily expanded on. The graphics were a bit lacking since they had no animation or effect, also the complete lack of music or sfx brings it down even more. Could use some juice and feedback but its really fun to play around

Fun game! You could really turn this concept into a full release, it might just need some better GFX

doc-kaos 2021-10-04 01:25

That was different. Enjoyed the little character and variety of enemies. Agreed that some sound feedback when an enemy is hit would help. Thanks for submitting it, great job!

Good fun to play through, held my attention for the entire set of floors. Overall would be helped with just a few sound effects.

Thank you all for the feedback. Audio for me has definitely been lacking in ludum dare submissions.

Really cool idea, feels like pulling off combos in a way. But I also think it could've used a bit more juice, like audio and screenshake

cabjhegas 2021-10-04 22:11

Really fun to play. It would be awesome that we have different kind of attack that would need to use depending on the enemy. Good job

I love the concept of combining potion to create a new magic effect.Nice game. I love the combo of Green + Red -> Poison.

This game is extremely mechanically fun. I think that, in general, it is satisfying to use an input system where a series of inputs need to be executed in order to perform any actually meaningful task, and this game definitely exemplifies that idea. It is just a lot of fun to have to press a couple buttons to set up a particular spell.

I think the reason for this is because it requires so many inputs that it feels like I'm doing something really complicated and intricate, even though I'm really not. But that feeling is a really good feeling nonetheless.

I really like the variety of spells that exist. I figured all of them out but the speed one, which I failed to notice had increased my speed.

The most obvious area of improvement for this game is of course polish and audio. But the gameplay is really good, I think. I honestly had a great time trying this out.

@slimmerburger Yes more juice! Definitely want to get better at that aspect for these jams. Thank you for playing! @cabjhegas Yeah I originally was hoping for more combos to come from the interactions between spells to counter enemies, like using the wall to block enemies and putting acid under them. I also was indenting for fire to be used to clear slimes that rush you while acid could be used on mages that mostly stand still, didn't get it all perfect though in the end I felt fire was just really strong. @joshuarabbit Thank you, the combos were a key idea I had early on. I wanted to make it feel frantic pushing buttons (and a little dangerous if you ended up mixing too many) @honey-pony Thank you. Yeah speed was an early idea, it was a bit more useful on Friday night/Saturday morning when the game wasn't just single screen rooms and more of a full dungeon-y type thing where you had to run around a lot and also when the camera was far more zoomed out so there was more room to run around and being speedy was really helpful. it also lasted like a full minute instead of the 4 or 5 seconds it does now.

@kassanu, just to let you know, I played several of the games with my 5-year-old son. He loved your game and keeps asking me to come back to play the "harry potter game" (it is how he call your game) :)

kassanu 2021-10-07 21:24

@cabjhegas haha, I'm glad he liked it! thank you both for playing :)

Great! The concept is really interesting! It lacks feedback as others said, and also difficulty though (as long as I found that 1+2=health potion there was not very much worry anymore).

Great job!

Nice game. I really liked the mechanic of mixing potions to create magic attacks. At first, I expected the potion to automatically mix after adding the ingredients, so I was wondering why it kept blowing up on me. Then I noticed that you have to press the "Q" key to mix, which felt a little awkward since I'm used to pressing "Q" to quit a game. It would also be nice if the potion combinations were listed in game, or maybe unlock them as you progress through the game. I made it to stage 11 on my last try. It felt very gratifying when I blasted four or five purple blobs at once with a fireball.

Very nice! Loved how many levels there were. Would have liked a bit better graphics on some of the enemies, and hitboxes were occasionally kinda funky. Also the fact that the fireball didn't turn towards the mouse, really triggered me. Oh and audio would have been nice

rjhelms 2021-10-11 00:50

Very cool! I enjoyed experimenting to see what the different color combinations do.

Audio would have really helped juicing this up - even if it was just a few beeps and boops - but a nice package even without that.

You came up with a really cool concept there. But it has some issues that hold it back.

After like four levels you know all enemies and spells and there is nothing new afterwards. I was spamming 3+4+q all the time because the other ones were just gameplay wise to weak/unnecessary (give or take a few health potions). Having more spells is one way to fix this but i thought having some enmies be immune or resistent to fire may be cool idea to force the player to use other stuff like the poison too. Or having a limited supply of basic potions and they get dropped by enemies instead so if you are out of red ones you need to do something else.

The crafting in itself works surprisingly well and is fun. I even wish some spells would need more than just two ingredients so it would be a bit harder - maybe more ingredients equals more powerful spell or something.
