Cool game concept!
Unfortunately I keep getting a "Virus detected" error trying to download it...
Nice game. I like the simplistic art style and the music sounds cool.
Even after playing for a while, I'm not sure how you leave a shop. Also, I'm not sure if the turret does anything, it does not look like it is shooting. Beside that good job on the game.
@cameron-paxton We're working on that! Unfortunately it seems common that sometimes games developed in GameMaker Studio 2 are flagged as false positives, but its 100% safe, for example here's an official post. https://help.yoyogames.com/hc/en-us/articles/360031016592-What-to-do-if-your-game-is-false-positive-detected-as-a-virus
@zimny11 Thank you so much! Leaving the shop is done by just holding either left or right, to "walk out of it", and the turret replicates your gun (the rotation and fire rate) on the open corner of it. Make sure not to block it!
@wolfmeryx Cool, I'm not sure exactly where it's getting flagged (either browser or OS) but I'll try to track it down and see if I can get it running!
Really fun! I wish there was a "restart" button to easily start from scratch (or the ability to move modules during the upgrade phase). There were a few times I placed a module without fully realizing how it would function and was stuck with it. But easy enough to just start a new game :)
Brittle_Buildings_WxNPoPyGet.png I did encounter a soft lock at this point (after 3rd wave) All enemies cleared but the upgrade screen never came up.
Overall I really enjoyed it, and of course the music is badass. Nice work!!
I really like the idea of buying upgrades affecting your stability! The music was very nice and I liked the art style too. On one of my attempts after clearing all of the enemies in level 1 I never got the option to upgrade, and had to exit out of the game. Nevertheless, good work!
Looks clean, sounds great, and it is fun. Although I couldn't figure out how to confirm my build for a little while. Then the game skips my build process after the 2nd wave entriely. I think moving left and right can confirm build but it wasn't very obvious and doesn't feel intuitive. Otherwise it is really good.
Quite a good game, loved the animation on the player character, and a great twist on tower defence + tetris. Main criticism is that for me the mechanics of the buy menu felt a little unclear. Ended up completely decking out my tower after the first wave before realising how to exit it.
cool concept
You should have made 2 buildings... Love the concept and minimalistic sound. Hard part is to get the tower defense management. Anyway, loved the entry, thanks!
I really enjoyed playing it, and overall a solid entry. The graphics were nice, if a little simplistic (the reload looks especially cool though). There were a few things which I got confused with initially, which an updated version should address, including: how to leave the shop, rotating the blocks which shoot with you (I see only a quarter of the upgrade has a hole free) and jumping off the building doesn't kill you. A restart button would have been nice and I *think* I couldn't see the stability currency while the shop was open.
Cool idea. The 1-bit visuals were great and so were the character designs. The player's reload was cool and the sound effect made it damn satisfying lol. However, the game really needed some tutorials. It did take some experimentation to realise how the blocks actually worked together but it was very frustrating in the beginning as a result. I also wish there was a separate button to exit the shop because I accidentally left it a few times. None the less, it was a cool entry and cool concept. I was able to last for 6 waves
This an insanely good game! My only criticism is that the playing area fills up way too quickly. Maybe zoom out the camera and make the playing area bigger?
All in all, great game!
@wolfmeryx I tried it again. Yup, I was totally blocking my own turrets XD
For some reason I can't past start menu of the game - buttons don't work whether I click on them or try various keys. May be I'll have more luck later, but shurely would appreciate if there is some hint you could suggest to run the game properly. Thanks!
@ashtheevil Is the game full screen on start up? If it isn't try using alt enter to get it either windowed or full screen and it should work
@j-broccoli thanks, that worked, and I had a good time playing the game! Shooting feels incredibly satisfying - simple sounds and visuals really do the magic. I like the game has progression. You managed to add additional mechanics, such as turret - that's really cool! But top fun was when I figured out there is unlimited fly over the screen. This is so solid entry, great work!
very cool concept, and nicely executed, congrats! This is a perfect little loop for a jam game, kept me engaged for a while. Great work!
How do you progress from the building/module placing phase? I only managed to move off this screen by over-spending stability points and the building collapsing. Running out of space to place modules didn't work, and I couldn't find a key to press to progress to the second wave.
@samuel-hollywood-summers We're aware it seemed quite unclear for some people how to leave the "shop", but it's done by simply holding either left or right!
Thanks @wolfmeryx :)
Really good game, love the concept. One issue I was having was going over budget and collapsing my own building in the setup phase, due to the fact that one of the building pieces is covering the stability.
really great work regardless, I'll keep an eye on any future versions.
Awesome game, so much about the concept is really cool. Kinda hard but eventually I figured out a pretty good strategy. I wish I could have deleted modules I didn't want anymore or that there was some other way to keep things dynamic, as eventually you stop making choices and it's just down to gunplay/existing strategy. I hit a bug where I finished a wave and didn't have any more enemies to kill, but the wave never ended.
I really like the art but leaving the shop was a bit unclear (I read the comments afterward). Great job !
very nice concept, well done
Nice game, the reload animation and sound was super great. I enjoyed the puzzle of trying to optimize my building. Probably beyond the scope of a jam but a way to expand the building area would have been cool. Like some other commenters I had some issues exiting the buy phase but I figured it out eventually.
I had a lot of fun playing this! I encountered a few soft-locks, but I restarted the application and came back for more.
I'd love to unlock more options over time, the strategy of arranging the modules felt really interesting to me.
Like others have said, the visuals and the sound are really rad. Good job!! :)
