This is a whole lot of fun. Backing up doesn't seem to work (idk if that's intentional) but other than than this was actually a blast! GJ
Wonker indeed, was very difficult to control the vehicle but perhaps that was intended to make it more "Unstable". I liked how every part moved on the vehicle, it was a nice touch. Camera could have been improved as well to make it a smoother experience. Either way, it was a unique take on the theme, well done!
Good game! Very good attempt at the unstable theme using car mechanics!
Simple but effective concept. I really liked the intro and I thought the atmosphere was intriguing. The inability to brake or go in reverse, paired with the occasional awkward camera angles made it frustrating at times however.
Really the vehicle is unstable hahaha, I like it.
Thank you all for the kind feedbacks!
Unfortunately in the rush we show that you can use S or Down to back up, but it was intentional that you cannot! We edited the description to reflect that!
We intend to improve the camera to avoid weird angles that could provide a not so nice experience, the frustration about the vehicule is intended ! Carefully tuned for that :smiling_imp:
Nice game, pleasant dreamlike feeling, I guess the same as driving on the moon ! I couldn't pass the swing checkpoint after many attempts unfortunately... may be a camera orientation problem ? Thanks for this game !
Even though the car was unstable, the camera angle was the biggest obstacle to overcome. Apart from that it was a great (challenging) game. I could not finish unfortunately, I had to give up after 40+ attempts on the swinging bridge - I just coulnd't time it correctly. Controls felt good, even if they were meant to be unstable. The level was challenging. Good job :)
It's a fun game, but I found it a little unfortunate not being able to go back, since sometimes you drive against a pillar because of the camera, get stuck completely (going left/right from there doesn't work) and it doesn't feel like it's the players fault.
Still, overall I enjoyed it, and it's truly very unstable 🤪
Cool concept! Have to agree with the others though that the camera angles can be very frustrating. I, too, had to give up in the swinging bridge because the camera made it difficult to time everything correctly.
Ha, this is awesome. So much inherent humor in things toppling over, I love it. The visuals are cool and psychedelic and it's fun to control the car. The camera did get a little frustrating, especially in the pillars of eternity section when it became hard to see the vehicle, but I'll admit that just added to the "unstable" feeling. Which is the other good thing, this is obviously really thematic. Anyway, love physics games like this! Cool stuff.
@appoxgames @bulix @thooom @mrschlag2 @sockenpuppe @polymathld Thank you again to you for your kind feedbacks!
As the camera was the biggest problem, this is just to let you know that we tried a fix that you can test if you'd like (last link), in hope it will make it easier to pass the swinging bridge ;)
This was cool. The occasional 'unstable' physics were funny and theme fitting. On resetting to a checkpoint sometimes the camera would take a while to curve around which slowed gameplay down a bit. Overall interesting entry, very on theme!
cool mechanics!
Nice! I think the time should be appearing on screen all the time. Also the possibility to go backwards would be amazing. I really enjoyed this :)
Very unstable indeed!
I think the game could benefit if it was made less uncontrollable though, because I don't think unstable and uncontrollable are exactly synonyms. A bit more could be done in terms of maneuverability, ability to go backwards (yes, I know it was removed on purpose, but still!), ability to turn more rapidly without necessarily falling over at once, etc — it could still be fun and unstable, but less chaotic at the same time, so the player has a stronger sense of control and there's space for developing a skill. Right now the skill appears to be "just move very slowly and don't press any button for longer than 1/5th of a second", and it's not as fun as it could be.
I really loves the stylish visuals with abstract shapes and subtle reflections. Oh, and that squeaking sound the car makes!
Great idea that fits nicely the theme. The controls felt good even though the vehicle was moving in an unstable manner. However, what ruined the experience for me sometimes was the camera. The angles were very often odd and I fell down because I simply didn't see the road (the camera was under it). It was also behaving oddly on resetting at checkpoint (it was facing the car so again you didn't see very well where are you going). The 'Pillars of Eternity' part was also very hard because of this because it was easy to hit a pillar (because the camera was way too much behind you and the other pillars were blocking your view) and in combination with not being able to go backwards it meant you have to reset. Also it happened to me several times that the colliders weren't working properly and one of the wheels got stuck in the round. My guess is that the camera was supposed to behave this way in order to increase the unstable feel but it didn't work for me. But overall it is a fun game with nice visuals and sounds (it all fits together nicely) and as I said, the idea is great and the controls are very well done.
Well yeah, this couldn't be any more unstable. :P From physics, wheels randomly clipping into the terrain, to camera angles. I think you went a little overboard, and I kept wondering how much of this was actually intended.
It was manageable until that swaying bridge, but I couldn't get over it.
The whole game is as unstable as possible. This fits the theme of the competition.
@holyblackcat About how much if this mess is intended : For sure everything is not intended. We crafted wonky features then we tweaked them until a playable state. It took a lot of play-testing to fine tune this mess so it meets our vision of the game/theme. For example, in the turnips section we hide meshes between the player and the camera to enhance visibility because it was too frustrating. Conversely, in the pillars section, we chose to only adapt slightly the camera to make it more comfortable because the layout is quite easy to memorize. Another example could be the track's decorations ( floating crystals & such ) which moves in unexpected ways. We tweaked it to ensure it gives nice visuals, we rolled with the bug instead of fixing it because it added something interesting to the game. So it was kind of a 'transform' this cool bug into a feature with, hopefully, true randomness in it to maximize the unstable feeling.
Thus it was quite fun to develop this game ! But for a post-jam game freed from the LD theme, we would fix most of those 'issues' as they wouldn't be relevant anymore.
Thanks for all your feedback, we're happy to see that most of you found some enjoyable parts in our game !!
