Hey !

The game was really interesting ! You probably should have add some music, and some sound effect, that will have add more life to the game. I really like the graphics, it's simple, but it works. For the game itself, you should have probably embrace the random by making the food/fuel given by the village random. (And not just add some plunderer). Because, in the best case scenario you have there, is you have a line of village from one side to the other, and you lose only 20 food to go to the next layer. So, not being able to make sure that you have 0 loss, or that you have more food than when arriving isn't rewarding enough, in my opinion.

Either way, I love the game concept, and you probably should try to improve the game outside of the gamejam. <3

Wonderful idea! Graphics could be better, but it is really fun.

Great game with interesting mechanics. I like the simple graphics.

Super nice game! I love the idea. The fire is great! Congratz!

I think this in an interesting idea. I sort of like that it seems you're doomed from the start. You probably could have worked on adding a bit more randomization into the game, a improvement in my mind would be to add more types of square with different rewards or even penalties. The graphics looked nice, but some sort of sound would have been good. It is a pretty good game, but with some improvements it could be great.

I like the concept of the game a lot. I feel like its missing a sense of progressions though. In a full release version of this game I could see maybe more aggressive events justified by "riots in the capital" or something like that.

@jeffez, @swordfish thanks for detailed feedback. it's not an easy task to do everything during 48 hours and I am totally agree with everything you said. regarding random rewards in villages and forests I think it would be much harder to balance properly, so I decided to do not use this approach during event

@hiki911 I totally understand, time makes us have to sacrifice lots. Hope I didn't diminish the work you must have put in. Just some ideas :)

I love the idea, it has a potential. What would be great is to have some sort of feedback for different actions in the game. Like sabotage for example - it's hard to notice what actually happened. Also it would be cool to have some options to choose from. Like choose what would you gain: food or fuel. As I said, the idea is great and you can think of a lot of cool stuff to expand the gameplay.

hiki911 2021-04-29 16:09

@bereg regarding sabotages and overall feedback to player, that's why I added action log with all details, where player could see what have happened during travel across city layer, but yeah there are plenty room for improvement

As others have said, sfx and music could go a long way to making this a complete experience. As it stands it's got mechanics and visuals down pat, it honestly doesn't need more detail than this. It honestly reminds me of a previous LD gamejam game from a few years back that I really really liked, called Little Lands https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/little-lands. Well done!

Can't figure out how to play... (didn't rate)

minibetrayal 2021-05-03 05:16

Interesting idea once i figured it out, would love to see more (much more) development for it to be a good, replayable game!

dobrila 2021-05-03 19:25

The seems to be no trade off in choosing to interact with a forest or village other than a negligible chance of getting sabotaged. The graphics are cute and easy on the eyes. The lack of any audio affected the mood a lot. All in all, nice game, well done!

I love it! Nice one! Interesting idea. I played a few times but wasn't sure if it will ever end. Nice presentation as well :)

Other improvements: * Tiles need to be highlighted as you hover over them, otherwise it is hard to understand that you can click them * Confirmation should be to click the same tile/location twice. The button creates too much cumbersome mouse movement. * There is no sound :( * No sense of progression - will it ever end? * Fire and Smoke are very expensive, it does not run very well on my PC (R380X, 1440p) but fortunately performance is not needed to play. * Try to reduce package size as there are not many assets and 140 Megs are quite a bit for that. Did you bundle the editor-assets?

A nice little idea, most probelms are echoing feelings others have expressed. The lack of sound really hurts here, since a game with a slower pace as this really uses the soundscape to set the mood. The filesize was super large, so there is probably something going on there. There was some progression since there was the "Layers left" text, but it wasn't that noticeable and you didn't notice the progression in the actual gameplay. The game over transition was pretty abrupt, and it didn't tell you why you lost: whether it was the fire catching up or running out of one of the two resources.

Overall, a cool little idea, looking really forward to what you can do in the next jam.

I like the narrative of the last layers ❤
