It's very good and not very difficult. I seem to see a pattern of people in the grid. I got 200 points.

Nice game, it's really enjoyable. Give me a nice experience of getting deeper and deeper. And I got 555 pints. 2021426173442.png

Fun and Cool game. I also love how the drill reacts to the music.

adam-jewell 2021-04-28 10:47

Awesome concept! The way the drill moves to the beat and speeds up feels so fun and funky. Got a gold star :)

@adam-jewell Thanks, and good job!

this game is awesome! i really liked the way it was almost like a rhythm game, with the drill moving on the beat. made it really fun to play. it reminds me of crypt of the necrodancer! if you continue with the game, i might recommend taking another queue from necrodancer and make the drill only move if you press the key on the beat, instead of automatically. just a suggestion :) i also really like how the music sets a sort of time limit on the run, which gives a sort of risk-reward aspect. should i focus on getting all the early ore or should i skip it and beeline for the gold? really cool stuff. great work <3

invixel 2021-05-04 19:55

@squigglez Oh that's actually a great idea, this game idea doesn't have a lot of potential to be interesting if you only control direction, but it could be really fun if more focus was put on the rhythm part. Thanks for the feedback!

I really liked the music and gave a sense of urgency to my drilling. Was interesting figuring out what things gave the most points. Not really sure what the circles at the end meant, I assume it was how well I did but not obvious, some explanation would have been nice.

Really cool! Love rhythm games! I liked that you only controlled the direction and the drill moved automatically. Feels like this concept has a lot of potential to explore for further development!

Fun game, I feel like we both had similar ideas. I'm not sure why I made it further sometimes but not others but I didn't have the audio on so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it.

The use of the music and the rhythm in this game is super cool. It's just a lot of fun to have the drill move on the beat, especially with the beat moving faster and faster as time goes on. And of course, it means that directional inputs have to be timed with at least some care, which is pretty fun too.

I like the tradeoff of trying to go deeper to get more valuable ores, but leaving the earlier ores behind. This works even better with the varying density in ores. I managed to get a score of 915 just digging straight down until I got to the very low levels.

On that note I do really like the sense of depth. When I end some runs and see that there is a whole section I never reached, that makes that unreached area quite tantalizing.

I did find that luck played a large role in the score I got. My highest score, 1295, came in a run where there were like 5 skeletons all grouped together--so that accounts for half of the score right there. It would be pretty hard to beat in any run that didn't generate any skeletons.

It's a somewhat interesting question because I think that, playing and hoping for good RNG is kind of fun. It's really fun to see those five skeletons and grab them, knowing that I'll get a good score. But the tradeoff is that means some runs are intrinsically going to be less fun.

I like the medal system at the end.

Overall this is a really good entry. I played it a number of times due to the variety of mechanics and just to try to push my score higher. Very fun.

@honey-pony Thanks for the thoughtful criticism and insight. I agree with you that the RNG-aspect of it can be a hazard, and it would've been more fun if I implemented more player control, or some way to mitigate bad luck. Perhaps by changing where stuff spawns, or guaranteeing that at least x number of each treasure spawn? I don't know, but i agree that it's one of the key issues for the game.

Sweat beats, batman! The drill moves with the rhythm!

Really cool (and short) game makes got a lot of re-playability. Perhapes it would be nice to add an upgrade system to the squeal?

mr-forty-two 2021-05-15 10:28

Great game! I like the music, and how the drill moves in sync. The speeding up is nice. The decision between getting early ores or waiting to get lower is interesting.

ben-taylor 2021-05-15 10:30

Really enjoyed this. Thanks! Loved the rhythm game aspect.

jonathan-lorenz 2021-05-15 14:20

Hey, that's actually pretty original! Simple game, but good execution!

chirichirichiri 2021-05-15 14:21

Hey, this one is a lot like my entry :stuck_out_tongue: Music is great, and I love that digging is synced up with the beats. As for the gameplay... given that the game doesn't fundamentally change between runs, and each run is very short with a kinda just "grab stuff you pass by", it doesn't really feel like there's much replayability. I definitely love the concept though. Honestly maybe even just having stuff you could run into would probably be enough to make it a lot more replayable, but, as other people have suggested, some kind of upgrade system would be good too. I'd love to see this expanded on post-LD!

itsboats 2021-05-15 18:51

Really cool ideas in this! The movements synced with beats feels very satisfying <3

my only issue is that it seems the dominant strategy is just go straight down and try to get the better ores. I think there needs to be something that entices the player to move to the sides earlier on like a time extension upgrade for that part of the song, or a boost that moves you multiple blocks (but still to the beat of the music)

Overall really good start to a awesome game!

spaghetti-inc 2021-05-16 08:23

I wish I could rate the music because it was really good! The game reminded me of crypt of the necrodancer because you move on beat! really cool game 10/10!
