The game isnt realy working, but you probably couldt finish it in time, the graphics and music is fun tho.

idenoh 2021-04-27 21:03

Hey Newrybenson, we ran in to some unfortunate issues with Unity collaborate that resulted in us losing a devastating amount of work right up at the finish line, we're working on bug fixes for what we could include but we appreciate your feedback!

@idenoh We had a similar issue , but with github. We lost valuable time some important features. Sorry that happened. The art and music is very good, The game seems fun. Thanks for your work.

I found the remote! I didn't know it was a remote at first, it looked like an ancient stone tablet, which made it seem more mysterious. I didn't really get the premise until I read the description, but I liked the art and things that got in. I had a hard time telling it was a hand at first, I think it might help to think about the silhouette read from further away when modeling, but I liked that initial shot of the dust bunny. At the very end I walked back to the beginning and infinitely fell haha. There's a lot of 3d character and animation work for a jam, it'll be nice if it was showcased better. Anyway keep up the good work!

I enjoyed the art style and the game mood, would love to play a finished version of it! Nice work

would be interesting to see the direction this game goes with a little more work. sorry to hear about your guys' troubles with losing work, that always sucks :< but congrats on still pulling off something playable!

egercreator 2021-04-30 07:34

Okay, tha game's idea is very good! But this is not probably finished( Anyway, i enjoyed the art style! Hope you will finish this! Good luck!

maybeagoose 2021-04-30 09:06

idea good but I don't take any damage

kazz96 2021-04-30 10:37

As other people point it out I don't take any damage. Otherwise the game seems good, the mix 2D/3D is a bold choice but it pay off. Keep it up ! :)

meownsk 2021-04-30 11:21

Love the graphics and idea. Yes, it unfortunately unplayable, but it didn't stopped me from finishing the game. From this point of view I'm glad that I didn't get damage in game =P

Hey thanks for the stream a few days ago Codeman. Unfortunately I got to beat up your game a bit, sorry.

I'll start with the artwork and say while it looks good, I don't really like the clashing art styles between pixel art and realistic 3d.

The gameplay was a bit empty but this since most of the enemies don't appear to damage you.

You audio and music choices were pretty good.

The game isn't very innovative, but that's not really a bad thing. If you were to continue this it could be a great reimagining of something that already exist.

codeman1010 2021-05-02 03:16

@wolfier thanks for playing! I appreciate the honesty. I would much rather have a truthful review than false info.

We definitely ran into some issues last minute, like damage not working, we'll come back stronger for the next jam!

plopy86 2021-05-02 06:37

It's sad you didn't get enough time for finish the game. Good luck for next time^^.

reheated 2021-05-02 06:48

I'm really sorry to hear that you lost data. Is it something that could easily happen to anyone? Should we all be wary of Unity Collaborate? (I know nothing about it.)

Anyway, well done managing to push on and finish something. In addition to the issues pointed out by others: the player can stand on the side of a wall (I've seen this issue a lot in LD platformers.)

silkypantsdan 2021-05-02 10:36

Sorry to hear about the code loss - as it looks like you had something really cool going here! I love playing as "Thing" from Adams Family!

I agree on the mix of styling - the pixel art seems a bit too 'bright and clean' compared to the more gritty 3D models. I also managed to find a couple of holes in the collisions near the final level transition that allowed me to get outside the world (or was this a _feature_ to go deeper? :P)

Could definitely see more expansion on ideas for 'things in/under the couch' too

epicgamefan 2021-05-02 12:37

Cool concept. Yeah like the other guys said my fist thought "Thing" from the Adams Family. I wish it was more complete, but good effort.

adonisdevs 2021-05-04 22:56

I returned the remote! The idea is hilarious and I would definitely look forward to a fixed version. Though, I'd be lying if said the bugs weren't somewhat amusing - I was dying of laughter after falling out of the map ;)

videt 2021-05-16 07:11

I saw your comment that you lost a lot of progress due to technical issues and I'm very sorry to hear about it! We had the same issue so we didn't have time to add some stuff we wanted and had to hack other stuff in at the last minute.

But sadly almost 3 weeks later bugs are still there so the experience is not the best tbh. The theme is pretty creative tho

anchorlight 2021-05-18 09:42

I'm a bit late to comment here, but got the chance to take a look a few days earlier when you were streaming.

While the game might not have reached the finish line, I can at least appreciate the work that went into it. The artwork being this bizarre 2D backdrop mixed with 3D models was a really neat idea, and I like the monster designs (playing as an Evil Dead style possessed hand was a pretty neat platforming concept that I'd love to see with more mechanics, like ledge grabs). That said, I think the backdrops feel a little colorful, and need a little grime or desaturation to really match the models.

Unfortunately, I found the level progression to be very unclear, and I was never sure if I was going the right direction or not. The levels themselves seem to be alright in design, and the music is a great bridge for mixing that horror theme and an action platformer. The controls also felt tight while moving across the map.

Despite the hurdles, it's a solid effort that I can definitely appreciate, and I'd still like to see what this game might have been with a little more time.
