The web version didn't want to load but PC worked. Loved the music and the concept is really funny. I liked the angled gameplay but the controls didn't seem to fit it quite right. Cool art and game design!

@liammasters I didn't notice that the web version was broken. Thanks for giving feedback!

You know this is the second Eel based game I have played this jam. There must be some sort of conspiracy going on or something. Anyways I enjoyed this. The web version was kinda borked for me (only showed part of the gameplay) but I clicked the fullscreen button and that solved it. I found the tilted controls to be a little hard to get a grasp of but eventually I wrapped my head around it. I love the art style of giant sprites so high marks there. Overall this was enjoyable to play.

Once I had the odd angle of movement mapped to the controls in my brain, it's a pretty solid little bullet hell style game. Nice job!

quoclon 2021-04-27 01:42

Oh man, that was... something. The graphics were pretty rad, and I like the idea, and how silly/chaotic it was. And I think I get why the controls are the way they are (because it's angled), but boy was it hard to navigate with those controls

pizzasgood 2021-04-27 01:51

A diagonal bullet hell is a pretty neat idea, but I just couldn't keep that control scheme straight in my head.

@theseusinabottle Thanks for playing! I'm happy that you enjoyed the game :D

@kernon I first tried to implement the usual control schemes but they didn't produce the feeling of going deeper into the ocean. I'm glad you still had fun!

@quoclon Yeah I tried to work on my art during this jam. I think I've improved a bit. Thanks for feedback!

@pizzasgood I wonder if I should change the controls and upload an updated version 🤔.

I never played a diagonal shooter before, quite the clever idea!

javicoder 2021-04-27 12:12

hahaha great story, the diagonal movement has driven me crazy, good job.

A diagonal shmup, interesting! It was tricky to remember which direction is which, and certainly chaotic, but unique. Nicely animated pixel art. The pew pew sound effects for shooting were spot-on, but I couldn't tell which sound, if any, corresponded to me getting hit, which seemed to happen a lot... The music was kind of whatever, but at least you had music, which is more than many compo entries can say.

Are there discrete levels or does the one just go on forever? I'm never sure if I've seen everything or if I'm just being bad at video games and there's more content.

lomna 2021-04-28 06:38

@mduo13 There are no levels it goes on forever. I was planning to have a boss fight to end the game but left that idea cause of time limitations. I am not very good at making music. I am happy that the music was at least passable and not annoying. :)

Nice shmup, controls a bit soapy, but with a bit of training I got used to it ^^

I like the idea of a diagonal game, really original! However, I just had a lot of trouble getting used to the controls because of it, but it's something you just have to take some time to get used to. Fun game, good job!

Shooters will always have a close spot in my heart and this was the first one that was diagonal! Such a cool concept. Sure it took a bit to get my head into the movements associated with the controls, but it was do-able and really nice! I'd love this as a full, fleshed out game!

The art is super cool.
