Most unique concept I've seen for this jam so far :)

maximegammaitoni 2021-04-27 14:36

seriously ? haha nice work !

antoined73 2021-04-27 14:39

Really cute game, I enjoyed exploring the little world. The graphics are really cute and the humor is impeccable. No matter where you go you'll see something to catch your eye and tell a story. My only remark is that there isn't any sound nor music, it could have been great to have some. Good job !

sebirit 2021-04-27 14:43

cute hand drawn stuff! I especially love the lovement animation on the character!

flashviper 2021-04-27 14:53

@cubex, @maximegammaitoni: Thanks for the praise! I'm glad you liked it!

@antoined73: Thank you! I tend to be insecure about my humor, so it's good to get some validation. I made the decision early on to not worry about sounds, since the world isn't super dynamic and it would give me more time to work on more drawings. But hey, sounds never hurt! (counterexample: turn your headphones to max volume)

@sebirit Thank you! I'm glad you liked my animation; I really enjoyed making it!

miwikiwi 2021-04-27 15:16

ANDY THE ASTRONAUTLLAMA 4 PREZ!!

instantnoedel 2021-04-27 15:19

Great exploration based concept! It reminded me a lot of games as Blueberry Garden and other exploration based flash games from many years ago.

The simple but very effective graphics really evoke a great atmosphere and mood. There are so many secrets and surprises to discover! I liked especially finding stuff hidden out of bounds and the abstract conceptual solution to the space station too.

A really good and friendly game which I think anyone can enjoy :D

miwikiwi 2021-04-27 15:21

I LOVE this game! It feels like a hug and like a children's book and it has so much character. I adore the drawing style and the world building and the world logic and the humor is heartwarming. I also really appreciate that exploration is encouraged by fun easter eggs!! Would love to someday visit the space station <3

flashviper 2021-04-27 17:08

@instantnoedel Thank you! I've never actually played Blueberry Garden, maybe I'll check it out (if I feel like dealing with flash) The game was actually inspired by the xkcd game Hoverboard: (https://xkcd.com/1608). It's worth a try if you enjoyed this. I'm glad you found the "space station." I was curious if people would stick with the game long enough to find any of the more hidden stuff. Thanks for playing!

@miwikiwi I'm glad you liked the art style. It was soooooo fun to make, even if it makes the final build a casual 300mb :) Like I said above, I'm glad that you stuck with the game long enough to find a secret or two. That means I did a good job (I hope)

Also, Andy the Λstro Llama for President. At the very least, he should be added to Unicode :)

nyanpierre 2021-04-28 02:59

I really likt the art !

enrique-romero 2021-04-28 03:05

Great hand drawn style, the gameplay is simple but still quite fun to zoom around. This is a game that anyone can play and enjoy for a couple of cute minutes.

junojop 2021-04-28 03:05

so cute love the art style very nostalgic of poptropica maybe?

hcs-hades 2021-04-28 03:06

Super cute! Art is obviously the selling point on this one :)

roberto-romao 2021-04-28 08:07

Cute and so fun, I loved the mood too :)

Good Job!

flashviper 2021-04-28 14:01

@nyanpierre Thank you! I had a lot of fun making it!

@enrique-romero Glad you enjoyed it. I've had trouble going the 'traditional' game jam route in the past, and this was my attempt to descope the heck out of everything and just focus on the core gameplay.

@junojop I've heard of poptropica, but I haven't really played it. It's actually inspired by this game: https://xkcd.com/1608

@hcs-hades Yup, the art was definately the main focus. My sprites folder went from 3mb last jam to over 100mb. Thank you for playing!

@roberto-romao You liked the mood? I didn't think there WAS a mood. For me, at least, mood relies a lot on sounds, which this game doesn't have. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't complain. Thanks for playing!

bea 2021-04-28 20:34

this was a delightful little experience. I do wish there had been a bit of music and maybe some little effects, but had a lot of fun with this hand drawn jellyfish gallery nonetheless. Makes me want to put in some hand drawn stuff next time.

flashviper 2021-04-29 01:20

@bea Thank you! Yeah, some light music would be fun and add a lot. I wish I had time for that :( 'Hand-drawn-jellyfish-gallery' is probably the best description I've seen for this game. I might have to add that to my list of registered trademarks

ardorugus 2021-04-29 03:06

Fun sketches and animation! Liked the two-sided world exploration with some (obviously personal) Easter eggs. However, wished for some cool sfx. Is there any chance a very patient player might get over the End walls (maybe there's a hidden loop or something)?

flashviper 2021-04-29 15:17

@ardorugus Thanks for the kind feedback! I didn't feel the need for sounds because I wanted to focus on expanding the world (translation: I'm bad at making sounds). I probably could have done music, but I didn't have the time.

As for the end of world, let me just say that it doesn't go up forever... :) It actually doesn't take too long to get over. There's not much there, but there are a few easter eggs.

jfroggg 2021-04-29 15:51

This is the most caught off guard so far this Jam for me. I was not expecting any of that and there were a few times I was like surely there can't be any more right? Yet there was. I love love love the art too you're sketch style is so wholesome. Can't wait to see more from you! :)

neshtyak 2021-04-29 17:41

Omg omg I've found Hollow Knight character, so cool. Anyway I've explored the whole map hahah. It' really cute and funny game, like it =)

kaminos 2021-04-29 18:00

hahaha that was hilarious! so simple but yet so satisfying... i gave it a fair chance after the "seriously" part but i didn't find anythin else :/ Lovely doodle drawing graphics.. extremely cute. The dialogue is cool too especially with the player! Well done flashviper keep up the good work :)

wetburritosupreme 2021-04-29 18:17

What a sweet world you built, its cute and simple and also fully open world! I had a good time with this entry, thanks!

flashviper 2021-04-29 22:33

@jfroggg Thank you! I'd like to think that all of my doodling my entire life has been leading up to this point. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@neshtyak I'm glad you found the Hollow Knight vessel-character-player-thing. That game is probably my favorite of all time. Thank you for playing!

@wetburritosupreme Thank you! I can't say I thought of this game as truly 'open world,' but I guess it is pretty much just that. I guess I can add 'open world developer' to my resume now :)

jfroggg 2021-04-30 02:05

@flashviper You know doodling is a skill I've actually always been jealous of. I remember the first time I saw Napoleon Dynamite and the doodles were so mesmerizing to me. I wish I didn't have like shaky hand syndrome and could have those cleeeeeean and very purposeful lines. Makes me want to practice my hand drawn art more(Since I literal never do anymore haha)

flashviper 2021-04-30 02:23

@jfroggg You would be surprised at how many times I redraw a plain old circle just to get a jellyfish looking right. It's a lot more iterative than it looks. Doodling is fun if you enjoy it, but if it doesn't work for you, no pressure.

It's also important to remember that there's always going to be someone to compare yourself to. I compare myself to games like Cuphead or Hollow Knight, and I don't even come close :) And my animation is still super limited, not like some pixel artists I've seen, even in jams like this one!

webox 2021-04-30 03:35

This has to be the most cute game of the entire jam!!! This is just amazing, all those drawings! That's a LOT!! I'd love to play it with some chill music and maybe see some exploration mechanics explored further. Some of the scnes you can find are hillarious, like the "seriously" signs when you try to go really far haha. Beautiful work, loved it!!

flashviper 2021-04-30 19:57

@webox Thank you! Too bad there's no cuteness rating. I agree, chill music would be great, but I'm having a hard time envisioning other exploration mechanics. I've thought of turning this into a sort of chill metroidvania if that's what you mean. Otherwise, thank you so much for playing!

danframe 2021-05-02 10:44

hey i love the idea and draws, most particulary all the funny details and references like Star Wars or Hollow Knight, this is very cool and chill, music would have been a plus. Ps: i love the joke at the end

flashviper 2021-05-02 20:31

@danframe Thank you! Yeah, chill music would have been nice. I'm glad you liked the end, because I was really scratching my head for a while on how to signal that the world had ended without making it feel too abrupt.

ddrkirbyisq 2021-05-05 08:34

Nice, the parallax-esque scrolling speeds really gave the world a sense of depth as opposed to just being a flat sprawling image. Wish that the view could have been ever so slightly zoomed out more, but it was still fun to explore around anyways.

kinolebedev 2021-05-05 14:06

now! sploosh is my favorite here and thats what im searching for) @FlashViper - respect and lets chat in DM (mail or telegram or whatever)!

flashviper 2021-05-05 16:18

@ddrkirbyisq Thank you! I put in the parallax early on and was surprised at how much it added. I agree that the camera can be a little zoomed in. I wanted to have a more dynamic camera that zoomed in and out based on what you were close to, but I just didn't have the time to wrangle cinemachine that way. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

denzil-gomes 2021-05-16 21:37

Found the little hollow knight guy. Really nice art. Some music and a few sounds would take it to the next level. Nice little experience you made here
