Veeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry bold of you to make a game about content like this.
I really like what you're trying to accomplish here, though if I could make a suggestion:
It seems like you're trying to have multiple messages here, and in my opinion they seem a bit at odds with each other. You want to shine a light on mental health issues and help people who don't have them understand them. At the same time, you want to give people who struggle with mental health issues hope for a better future (from what I could gather from your ending text).
Given this, I'm not sure I agree with how you chose to end your game with a suicide. It was very effective as a way to convey the feeling of hopelessness to someone who might not understand what the character is experiencing. However, I think ending the game by forcing the player to kill themselves kind of undermines what happens afterwards when you're telling the player to "not give up hope." I think maybe if you left the ending a bit more ambiguous, it would have strengthened both of your messages.
Sorry if this all sounds super critical. I tend to write a lot more and be much more critical of games I really like. At the end of the day, your game brought out all of these thoughts and opinions from me, which means it made much more of an impact on me then most LD games.
On the positive side of things, I think you really nailed the aesthetic and atmosphere. I love the design of the character model, as well as all of the visual effects going on here.
I really appreciate what you're trying to do here. Keep up the good work.
you made a game kinda like my life
@coleslaughter I get your point! And you're right, it probably would have been better to end it another way to deliver the message a better way. And it is a risky theme to touch, yes:P I didn't choose that ending to say that "this is the only way out" or anything, but I chose it because a lot of people choose that option, it's the sad and harsh reality and I kind of wanted it to be a little roller coaster. But the main message is that it will get better and it's worth fighting, and also try to show other people what it can be like sort of.
But I really appreciate the feedback no matter if it's criticism or not!
And I'm glad you like the aesthetics!
@michael-gerstl You're not alone, brother. Hang on in there
A very strange idea, but overall good, I like it!
This spoke to me, and I found myself pacing back and forth. I would love to see an option later in the cycle, where I could call someone to talk to, or get a dog or cat maybe? Just things that have helped me along when feeling depressed.
It is the most innovative game i play during that ludum, congratulation for the result ... and the message ! Nice job.
@j-dubs I will deffinetly try to work more on it and actually give the player different options than.. the current ending.
@robin49 Thank you so much!
I liked the game in general. I also agree that different options than suicide would be much better.
Besides that, I would use a pixelated font to match the pixel art of the game.
@gord10ahmet I will work more on it and add other options, I just didn't have much time to add in other options before the end of the jam :) And I was thinking of using a pixelated font, but I decided to just play it safe and not risk using a font that I weren't allowed to use:p
Nice game! I love 2d games
@pedrocoden Thank you! I'll try to work more on it and make it more interesting (And have other endings)
I think I died of cirrhosis while playing that game. Haha ha. The graphics are really cool, and the atmosphere too. I hope you take this project forward, it would be a very interesting game to play. Congratulations.
@vphyre hahah, maybe that should be an ending
Good work! Overall this was a few minute silent thinking. The gameplay was nothing, BUT there is a good message and great graphics. Thanks for this few minute.
Interesting. A bit bleak and there wasn't much gameplay, but you got your point across. I did like the graphics, though. Very good work.
@benedek-labancz & @digital-bacon thank you! I'm glad you like the graphics :) And no, there's not much gameplay to it, but that's sort of the point, it's supposed to show the boring and repetetive days that people struggle with. I will try to work more on it tho and add more gameplay, make it a fuller game
Interesting idea, I liked the atmosphere and mood but there wasn't much to do. But I think I got your point. Good job
Wow, I didn't really see this ending coming after I had started to get a little bored in the game. I'm glad you made this game, and could share a message within it. :) As you said in previous replies, I hope you'll find ways to enhance the game and bring other endings. Interested to play it again once you have a new version !
Why You Gotta Do Me Like That? Great Game Tho. The Audio, Graphics All Were Really Fitting.
Making games about these issues is always hard and especially during a jam. Overall I think the game does a good job at conveying the core feelings. And I felt that ending the experience with a message of hope (or support) is really important (like you did here) and not everyone does that when talking about such harsh themes. Anyway, good job making this. By the way, I'd probably remove the part where you talk your game down for being made during a jam. It's a nice experience and I didn't think that last bit was necessary.
@ludipe thank you, that means a lot! I will remove that part in future updates :)
This is an interesting and pretty well told story. I overall liked it, but there is a bit too much text.
