- default terminal width is 80... game needs more width then that. - game got stuck when voting for the first killer, wouldn't accept input.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD47 → Bloody Baron

@adroitconceptions thanks for the feedback, the input thing was a breaking bug that happens when you input something out of bounds. it's solved now :)
There seems to be an issue with confirmation (Enter) on Windows (perhaps CRLF vs LF) that always prints "Please enter an acceptable integer" and once I typed 22 followed by Enter and the game just freaked out (eating all inputs, waiting for some magical character that wasn't coming is my guess). If you manage to fix some of these issues I would be happy to try it again, I love console games.
@listonos i just found out a lot of things i was doing was usual for unix systems but for windows, the input process the way i was doing was a real pain. thanks for telling me, i think i managed to fix it now and i trimmed out a lot of useless feedback like this “Please enter an acceptable integer”.
Love the text based concept. Very different for an LD game and appreciate that.
Liked it, good job
Well, I beat the game, but only because I waited until there were only three of us left, then took a random guess at which of the other two it was.
@john-gabriel fun fact when i was playtesting i actually voted for the wrong person but hadn't gained a lot of trust, so the one who was chosen to be executed by the majority was another character. and it just ended up being the killer xD
so yeah if you can definitely guess the killer by pure luck, but using abilities and exploring during nighttime are supposed to be the optimal strategy.
@scottgoldsmith @mark-kelly thanks, i'm glad you guys enjoyed it
Damn it John, I should have caught you earlier! Loved the game, very intrigueing and fun. I love among us and had a go at danganrompa so i see what you are going with.
If you choose to expand this game then I would love to see more ways of finding out the killer as it was kinda luck at times.
Great job though, its been a while since I played an enticing text based adventure! Well done!
@cursedsoldier (WARNING: SPOILERS!)
yes if you don't use your abilities well or at all, you are left to your own luck. but *some* abilities are pretty useful in finding out who's the killer.
for example, getting Night Owl (Odette's skill) lets you walk around at night and not be instantly killed upon meeting the murderer, and Pick Lock (Amanda's skill) lets you check who's in their room and who's not when you're in the Inn Hallway at night. i *believe* that the optimal ability is to combine them to safely find out who has been up to shady stuff during the night.
John's (Perfect Bluff) is also pretty useful in trials, if you have a suspicion on who's the killer.
@Jegus9 that sounds like a great combo haha. I loved perfect bluff and the one for finding out the last 3 steps. They helped a lot.
Every time I thought I found the killer I ended up executing an innocent! Haha it was great!
I enjoyed it !! Very well done and I'll definitely go look up at the rust source code, since I'm learning it ;)
@los beware, the source code for my project is TERRIBLY written lol. i threw all good practices out of the window in order to finish it in time :joy:
For personal reasons, I am required to vote 5 stars in every category for this ultra mega amazing pogchamp game.
@thedoctoroftime hi... did you actually play the game i made? if you did, thanks and sorry for asking like this
@jegus9 hi yeah I played the game, it's this thing with me and my friends where we really want to learn rust but have no idea how to start, so seeing a rust game just made me really happy :)
I happened to talk to people in the right order so I couldn't be be instant-deathed, and was able to figure it out after checking the places people had last been to. Walking around after examining people didn't really do much for me, so it was faster to just go to sleep and then see who died unfortunately haha. Nice job!
Very brave to submit a terminal based game! 😂 I had lots of fun playing it! 👍
I tried to play and rate your text-based adventure that looks so interesting...sadly Avast doesn´t like exe files... I will try it later :)1.png
@danielblanco3d i'm sorry for that. the game was developed from scratch in Rust, and has not been signed or registered anywhere, that's why your antivirus is suspecting it.
but i promise you it doesn't do anything shady
maybe you can try and use WSL to execute the linux version? that might work better
