beautiful art style, the newspaper that shows the same date every day really sells the groundhog day feeling of a 9-17 job

vem 2020-10-06 06:48

The concept sells the themes extremely well. Audio and music work very well to make the daily grind feel like an exceptionally tedious video game. Things you interact with mostly functioning as collectibles was a very nice touch in how arbitrary the whole thing feels. Which is appropriately depressing when applied to a real job!

It’s a very good proposal. Don't have a real end when I played. I like the graphics, its original. Good work!

robowarrior1982 2020-10-06 16:14

Thank you @indiequest, @vem yes my idea was to propose an experience "METRO, WORK, SLEEP", and give to the player different opportunity by day to restore health and mental with help of bonus and minigame in a district of chicago. But like @fernandabatista say there is no real end, by lack of time i haven't implement all my idea like special event (you can just make only 10 loop before the game end). Anyway message is clear and i think the experience is interesting, also i wished to test this kind of graphics in jam too.

sophiemae0 2020-10-07 01:12

I like this original idea a lot, especially how it relates to the theme. The mood was spot on and a harsh mirror. Great job :)

I like the way routineness is executed in this game. The graphics have this very "corporate" feeling to them - it reminds me a bit of video ads that are all like "we're all in this together :)", so to take that style and flip it into this pleasantly coloured dystopia really is effective at making this idea of the day looping very dissonant and all the more unsettling. The music is also well done; I love how machine-like one of the tracks feels. The music could have been louder, as it was pretty soft in comparison to the sound effects.

Gameplay wise, I think the idea of going through the same motions over and over should lend itself to some form of progression to better indicate that the game ends after ten loops. If I didn't read so in the comments beforehand, I probably would have stopped at loop 4 or 5. Maybe something like the newspaper displaying some countdown text, so that the player picks up the hint that the game is supposed to go on for a certain amount of time. Then it can culminate to a certain "ending" or "conclusion", or just keep looping forever... :stuck_out_tongue:

The game's ability to be thought provoking is its greatest strength. I enjoy the way the scenario unfolded visually. It's simple and it packs a punch.

I love the art style :)

just-dante 2020-10-07 20:34

Game fits theme perfectly. Simple graphic works for it. Music is also nice. Pretty nice overall

dani-tufeld 2020-10-07 21:18

Very nice graphics, tells you the story of yourself, i guess everyone feels like he is stack in a loop in some points of his life, realy enjoyed it!!!

matheusborba 2020-10-08 01:59

very nice art style i like....

epb9000 2020-10-08 06:05

I am endlessly amused to find this game after listening to Robo Warrior music (specifically overworld 1) on loop to make mine.

I liked the concept and artwork for sure. I tried to escape the loop, but didn't see a way to do so. Just like working in real life. XD

sollu 2020-10-08 11:42

Game is definitely loopy. Art looks nice.

liess 2020-10-08 14:27

Artstyle nice and simple. Could use some extra quick and simple art techniques to bring it more to life.

kaiomoi 2020-10-08 18:03

The finish is very clean, the theme is respected and the experience is strong.

I personally am not very receptive to this type of experience, but I understand it.

It's a nice entrance.

robowarrior1982 2020-10-08 18:29

Thanks you @epb9000 yes the main theme of ROBOWARRIOR(FAMICOM) is a masterpiece ! Maybe the destiny ! @liess yes i agree, in the jam duration i made my best but i didn't put all my ideas and graphics into the game, that's a good start if you liked it. Thanks you @dani-tufeld for your comment i appreciate it. @kaiomoi i can understand what you can't adhere to this kind of concept, i wanted to made something different and who talk about work routine in accord to the theme, an experience who push the player to think about him and his personnal situation too, i think that's not perfect, but it work. Thanks to your comment !

puntocom 2020-10-08 21:26

Very cool art! I really liked your interpretation of the theme. It's curious how our game is so similar to yours!

geraldfingburke 2020-10-08 21:27

Thank you for stopping me! I'm not sure how many loops I would have done if you hadn't. I kept looking for ways to break the loop! Very good premise. I also loved the character animations. I even found outrunning the bus to be funny in its own way. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but the newspaper date stays the same. At first I thought this was a game about the daily grind, but I almost feel like it's someone trapped in limbo, reliving the drudgery of their life over and over again. The pills and the alcohol give me that impression. The only thing that doesn't fit is that you get progressively more money as you go.

Altogether a very good experience. I enjoyed it.

djayne 2020-10-08 21:39

I was really immersed in this game! Very cool style, atmosphere and general commentary on work life for so many people. I love something with a good amount of depth, and you really captured that "from a to be" sort of world. Well done! Thanks for sharing this.

kack3y 2020-10-09 11:59

Really repetitive ^^ exactly what a job day feels like :(

I like the graphics they made me think of "catch me if you can" title sequence but I didn't understood what the bars on the top left were representing, may need some variety in the interactions and events.

Good audio also. Nice entry.

robowarrior1982 2020-10-09 16:30

@kack3y same as like i say in precedenly comment, this isn't really finish and lot of idea didn't implemented, the red bar is the health and the blue bar the mental condition of your character, the idea is for example alcool is efficient on the mental but after few loop, that decrease health and didn't restore mental. So for this reasons this is normal that you can't understood the full fonctionnality of the bar because this is not really finish and equilibrate. View that like a proof of concept ;) Thank you for your comment.

robowarrior1982 2020-10-09 16:37

Thank you @geraldfingburke, @djayne for your comment.

Yes money it don't really usefull in the game actually, maybe i will want to add an arcade room for example or a loterie or an attraction park game where you can ameliorate your mental state and pay enter or ticket, but the final idea is : you work win a lot of money, and don't have time to spend them. Money is important sure but the most important things is your health and your mental stability.

geraldfingburke 2020-10-09 17:16

@robowarrior1982 Oh, man. I got a totally different read from that. I'ma stick with my headcanon, but I do appreciate the explanation.

robowarrior1982 2020-10-09 17:25

@geraldfingburke Don't worry with this kind of experience, the game just suggest ideas and after all it's at you to find your way and think about the subject with your personal experience, if that talk to you that is the most important !

ryzy27 2020-10-11 11:09

Art looks awesome. Overall game appears as finished product.

Gameplay is easy to get into and I'm left with a feeling that there is some secret I haven't found :)

Cheers!

pca 2020-10-13 05:05

Oh... These life is stuck. I feel a bit painful.

le-don 2020-10-13 09:19

Great concept! I also like the artstyle a lot. But I stopped after the 4th loop and didn't know, there are only 10 loops. But interestingly, I also think this sort of helps to get the point across.

pedro-henrique-cesar 2020-10-19 18:26

Really good concept, the interpretation of the theme is on point. Overall good game

cherry-princess 2020-10-22 08:59

I didn't quite get what the goal is, so i stopped after 3rd loop. You should make the goal more obvious.
