Great concept! The controls were extremely sensitive which made it hard to play, but I loved the feel the game had!

wrimo 2020-10-05 00:53

@quak Thanks for the feedback! I thought but turning the sensitivity down, but I thought it was fine. Guess I just got use to it from so much playtesting, haha.

flashcash0402 2020-10-05 02:20

I agree with @quak about the controls! Otherwise the game was awesome

tulipekoni 2020-10-05 02:27

Just played it myself and I agree with @quak. It might be because of fluctuating fps. make sure to multiply the rotation also by Time.deltatime to get rid of that problem. Anyway, all things concidered very solid entry, good job!

@wrimo I like the post-apocalyptic mood on the game, only found a survivor :D and lost not long after :) the car is kind of difficult to master and maybe the lanes should be a little bit big. Although I enjoyed the game :) good work!

As it as said before, controls are a bit hard, but it's a nice idea and I like the graphics. It's easy to understand what to do as well. It was fun playing it!

bottini 2020-10-06 22:57

As everyone is saying, the controls are a bit hard, put it's possible to get used too. I also only found one survivor. Overall I enjoyed it and it's a very nice concept, very nice from you to just use two colors!

mr-field 2020-10-07 23:31

i eventually managed to push through and find all the survivors, i really enjoyed the theming and world building. the way the monsters are represented and occluded when in your vision really does a great job of making them seem otherworldly.

i also liked the ability to pick up passengers from where you last ran out of gas, using your old car as fuel; it fits the theme well and is a saving grace, since the car is not particularly fun to control and the people can be a bit of a chore to look for, like everyone else has said

Pretty interesting but turning around could be a bit less agressive, was a bit hard to turn to where I wanted to. Besides that, no complains, good game!

keyurrana 2020-10-09 18:08

Interesting game. Turning can be improved a lot as others have pointed out. I like how old cars can fill up the gas. Exploration can be made better like better hints to find survivors or some backgrounds to actually show that you're driving (especially on long roads).

Good work overall!

Another tip (to try to be useful since everybody pointed out the turn sensitivity already), lowering it would be indeed good, but also you can try to make the center of rotation not exactly the center of the car, if you think of how real cars work, I think that would make it more enjoyable too. Anyhow keep up the good work! :)

I agree with what people are saying here... I would add to it though that this game really could have used sound effects (not even music, just sound effects). Things like hinting at whether you are close to a survivor, alerts on running out of gas, pew-pew noises from the enemies, that sort of stuff I think would have gone a long way in making this more accessible.

Interesting game, a bit confusing o play. great job!

Well, I finished it. But saving those 5 survivors cost me about 15 or 20 drivers, I think. I hope they appreciate it. It's fun and a clever indirect take on the theme. I do like the mechanic of having to pick up from where the last driver fell. I haven't seen a game like this before. I agree with the others that the steering is too sensitive. There's a creepy post-apocalyptic atmosphere thanks to the vast nothingness in between landmarks. It's impressive to achieve this with only ~~1-bit~~ (edit: 2-bit, I guess?) graphics. I think it could be even better with some ambient sounds.

Is it possible to do in one run? It feels like it _just_ might be. If so I'd love to see footage!

hishighness 2020-10-21 15:58

Its a good game, I just didnt understand its connection to the theme

rubixnoob13 2020-10-24 15:42

Turning is extremely slow, and sometimes when you get off the road or turned around, there's not really a good indication of where to go to get back to where you want to be to try and avoid death. I'd have also loved to have some sound effects or some music.

As a positive note, the graphics were kinda cute, even though the "car" looks more like a face to me :)

squeed-fingars 2020-10-27 14:32

I thought this was a lot of fun, I appreciate how much the dialogue between your character and the home base would change with each "loop". The dialogue as a whole was handled very well. I do think it would have been nicer though if there were more of an indicator that going back to base will fill up your gas, as I had a lot of trouble with gas for the first few loops. Something as simple as "Come on back to base if you're running low on gas, we'll fix you up," would have sufficed and would have helped alleviate some player's frustrations with the car's small fuel tank. Some sound effects would have gone a long way as well, but I will say that the increasing presence of the creatures over time was handled excellently.

A barrier would have been nice to avoid wandering into the void aimlessly, or something akin to this. Some additional landmarks would have made traversing the town much more enjoyable as well, as although there were some, they were few and far in between and as a whole the roads all looked the same especially near spawn. This landmark issue was especially apparent in the area with the messed up roads, it was very easy to get lost and end up going outside of the map. I really didn't have a problem with the controls, it felt like a car (actually more like a humvee, something big) to me for the most part although you do seem to run out of gas very fast.

Overall I thought this was very fun to play through, but with the addition of some landmarks and audio it would be more enjoyable. Maybe some additional enemies could make it creepier as well, as once the enemy was introduced I was not all that worried since it is relatively harmless if you keep your distance. I was looking forward to an enemy which would, for example, chase the player, that would be very tense and add more of a threat, which would have been nice since the biggest threat in the game as of now is crashing into a ditch. One last thing, it would have been nice to be able to see the hints that play when you start the game for where all of the people were in-game, for example by just pressing a button, as after a while I forgot where the people were supposed to be. A lot of this just falls under polish, and I still enjoyed playing through this as it had more of a genuine personality to it than most entries.
