the game is very fun
The game looks very nice graphically. I really enjoyed looking at it! And I like the concept a lot - feels like "Jack and the Beanstalk" fairy tale and the aesthetics reflect that as well.
However, because of the controls it is very unpleasant to actually play. You cannot move with WASD (D works but W and A do not), so you have to move with arrow keys - which is fine in itself. BUT you need to control your camera with a mouse and you jump with SPACE. That... that makes the game only playable comfortably by people with 3 hands or by those with a veeeeery long pinky on their left hand (to press SPACE while moving with arrow keys) :laughing: Maybe it was a bug with controls?
I also found it unintuitive that you cannot step on the root itself, only on the leaves, you just fall through the root. And I encountered some visual bugs with the root actually disappearing totally.

The game seems interesting and original, I LOVED the visuals and sounds, but the controls are very hard and tricky, which was a let down and annoyance for my experience.
Other than that, I congratulate for the originality.
@splitpainter @fabula-rasa Thanks for your feedback guys ! Inputs problem come from a simple thing : we are french, our keyboard are not qwerty but azery so we use zqsd to move. We will change that to feet qwerty config, because this is the most current ! If you want to try out, change your keyboard configuration to french, but i understand that's a lot to ask
Nice graphics and interesting concept! The controls felt a bit weird, is the player not supposed to walk or was this a bug for me? If the player is not allowed to walk, maybe the dash should be more controllable. So one could control how far to jump. It also felt weird that I kept falling through the stem. :)
Other than that I had some fun and I see potential. Thanks for the experience!
@bomb-x You could have just added in controls layout W as alternative to Z for moving forward and A as alternative to Q for moving left. This way you have both French and non-French keyboard layouts working just fine and you can configure as many buttons as you like to do the same thing :)
And adding another keyboard layout to the system is not all that much to ask - I personally already have 4 different ones for all languages that I am typing in :laughing:
But what you really should do is include this info in your description. You will avoid a lot of player confusion. Cause most languages use QWERTY layout (even Cyrillic alphabet languages still use QWERTY).
Real shame it's Windows only, I'd love to give this a good rating
the song was a banger. visual bugs here and there, also at first i thought i would be able to walk on the tree trunk, perhaps you could make it more explicit or more obvious, dunno.
I really liked the graphics, they were very calming! The audio was also very nice! I think the game was made for AZERTY which was a bit weird on QWERTY (maybe include some sort of options menu to change that.) Overall, this is a great jam entry!
Let's start with things I like: 1) Graphics looks nice. It has its nuances which I will explain later, but the overall look is good. 2) Music is very pretty. 3) I like how you increase difficulty with each jump.
Now let's look at things that requires some work to make it better: 1) Camera positioning. It is too low right now, and with it it is hard to tell if I landed properly. 2) You clip through anything that is not a leaf or orange shroom. That leads to disorientation of the player. 3) While looking good on gifs and screenshots, this bright lightning blinded me. Also, some leaves appear just in mid air. It looks strange. 4) All these small points 1-3 leads to total diseorientation in space when you try to correct your jump on the fly. 5) Dash mechanics (both horizontal and vertical) should be introduced more delicately. When I first had to use it I forgot that I can dash in this game, and without that no one could do this jump. And when I got to the point where vertical dash needed I had no idea what to do, because this jump also looked impossible. Also, vertical dash in combination with landing struggles stated in 4) will definitely be a quit point for someone. 6) I don't think that this time constraint is necessary here. Jumping itself is challenging enough here.
That's all I have to say about this game. Hope this will help make your game great!
