This is such a cute puzzle platformer. I'd love to see more of it. The controls were really straightforward. GREAT JOB ON YOUR FIRST GAME JAM!!!

I was skeptical about this game because of the art, but the mechanics were pretty fun! The controls were a little unintuitive and clunky, but besides that it played pretty well. I thought the main mechanics of growing + watering are really interesting. With some polish this game would be a blast IMO. I'd say keep working on this! Great work!

Really nice work, well implemented mechanic for a first game. Spending some additional time fine tuning the movement would add a lot. Good job!

Nice work for your first game jam! Nice mechanics.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I do plan on continuing work on Grow - there's a big list of things I'd like to improve.

This is very cool. Nice job doing everything from scratch and for finishing your first jam game. It's pretty fun, would like to more levels/mechanics!

terribletriojoe 2020-04-22 00:38

Thanks! More levels would have been next if I'd been more careful about time management.

hwaet 2020-04-22 01:47

I can't believe this is your first jam. The mechanics are really great. The tutorial is a bit confusing. I was expecting some text explanation. Once I got the hang of it, it had a nice flow.

terribletriojoe 2020-04-22 02:39

@hwaet Thanks! Sorry about the tutorial - after I finished putting it together I had to focus on getting the level designed and built instead of making the tutorial actually a tutorial, alas!

nathant 2020-04-25 21:32

Great that you included a tutorial. Puzzles were challenging and unique. Art was simple and clean. Loved the angry bugs. Would like to see more!

Congrats on your first submission! I really like the concept and quickly got a hang of it after figuring out the maybe not so intuitive controls (personally i would have liked the mouse buttons for growing and picking up or maybe just one button for both growing and picking up). Great idea and good job on finishing in time ;-)

terribletriojoe 2020-04-26 01:30

Thank you for the feedback, @nathant and @croped! Mouse clicks for interaction is a great idea, I hadn't thought of that while making the game.

Great game concept! Like others, I think the controls need work but the core concept of platforming with a plant that you grow is a great idea.

draklaw 2020-04-26 19:45

Nice work for a game from scratch, I know it's complicated.

I think your concept is missing something. Right now, you can grow a plant, climb and take it back, so you only need 1 seed. It seems hard to create interesting challenge with this. Maybe you should limit the ability to harvest plants, by example by making it only possible when the character is at its the base.

terribletriojoe 2020-04-28 05:19

@draklaw Thanks! I agree with you about the harvesting being a bit overpowered. I like the idea of limiting it in some way. One thing I didn't have time to explore was the use of bugs (different types, more frequent) to make harvesting a more challenging mechanic.

xart2012 2020-04-30 08:53

good puzzle, but it definitely needs menu - many restarts on first play: )

invixel 2020-04-30 08:59

I love the idea, and think it was a great take on the theme!

The tutorial was actually pretty great and introduced the mechanics in a good way. The sound and graphics worked just fine, the mood would've improved with music (but of course there's not time for everything).

My biggest problem was with the movement, it felt clunky and glitchy. I also found that the actual level was a bit too easy and i didn't need to actually use the water or the extra seed.

All in all, considering this is your first game jam i think you did an amazing job! While your game wasn't very polished, it *was* very fun, and thats the most important part!

kate90 2020-04-30 15:57

I lost myself and accidently went back to where I had begun. I like the graphic and simplicity of a game. Well done! Really good game!

greendinogames 2020-05-01 14:06

Good job for your first game Jam! Nice puzzle game!

adamv 2020-05-04 00:28

Nice game, I think the concept is great! The controls and physics felt a bit clunky, I would often get stuck temporarily. The switching between seeds and water felt a little clunky as well. I also didn't understand what the bugs did at first, but that's my bad for not reading your instructions  Good work!

almagor 2020-05-05 18:14

Keep improving the concept

natwomb 2020-05-05 18:24

Great job, liked the game mechanics with the plants combined with the watering can etc. Also liked the level design, even if it was only 1 level it made for a nice demo :)
