This looks fantastic! I hope you continue to work on this after the jam. I did find a bug though, I moved to the first space in the dungeon area, drew an event "Can't swim" and then I couldn't do anything

i like this art.thisgame Although simple but very interesting
I didn't manage to play the game ;/ i get stuck a lot of trial and I had to stop. But love the idea, gj guys
@rgarbati @gear-steak @zhaojun8443 Thank you all for playing, we realized there was a game breaking bug that locked out the majority of the game. It still has combat locked out but the game is now playable, please give it another chance if you can, thank you for your feedback!
Beautiful art and take on the theme, the perspective was weird yet very pretty. The game was super hard to understand, A few tutorials are really needed. I loved how the drawings were a mix of zelda and warcraft. Great job!!
First, the game looks great and it definitely looks like a lot of attention was paid to visual polish, especially in the menus/UI. However, like some others, I had a lot of trouble figuring out the rules and eventually gave up after wandering around for 10-15 minutes because I couldn't figure out how to get the key to the lich building.
Some specific things I was confused by: - I wasn't sure what the physical/mind/skill numbers meant. - I had some trouble figuring out how to use the cards. Eventually I realized that when I dragged them I could put them in the "Card Area", but even then it felt like sometimes the cards would not be allowed to go in the area after trying to drag them in multiple times, and I wasn't sure why. Also, I wasn't sure when/how many times I could press the checkmark on the Card Area. - I got confused by the cards that mentioned "+2 to trail dice". Eventually I got put on trial and it made a little more sense, but it didn't help that it was typoed as "trail" which made me think it was the movement dice. There were also some other typos which were less confusing but still a little jarring, like "role" instead of "roll" or "cheif peasent" instead of "chief peasant". - I wasn't really sure what was happening on the crafting/desert/forest squares. Additionally, it would have been nice to indicate which squares were which type on the map so you didn't have to click on all of them. - Finally, I had no clue how to get the key, which made it impossible to get to the lich.
I also felt that I could just gain life by wandering around the town, so I wasn't ever in danger of dying.
That said, I was very impressed by things like the warning for if you click on the dice without moving: more things like that would be a good idea. Just in general, it would be nice if you had a more thorough explanation of the rules either in-game or in the description.
Overall, I still had a good amount of fun just moving around, seeing what the cards did, and getting put on trial. I think this idea has a lot of potential, and could make for something really engaging with some more rules explanations and maybe some balance tweaks. Nice job!
@qzqxq First of all thank you for taking the time to write this. We wanted to see how far people would get without too much of an explanation and your review pretty much answers that question for us. I will say some 3d models were missing from the game (there is another token placed on space where the key is, top right corner, if you hover on this the space will change to an exclamation point). These models have been added and an explanation has been placed on both the itch.io page and in game. If you have a chance, give it another shot! Cards can only be played in certain moments, a card that adds +X to dice is referring to a trial, where you roll dice equal with your stats.
Great game! Awesome graphics and the music is nice! The gameplay is great but I think it needs more gamefeel in battles or when the main character needs to do an especial ability (one reference is "Hearthstone"), of course we have a short time to do the game... another thing is a bit confusing access into the lich castle, the UI told me that I need 11 moves to enter, but I the end I need the key (located in the top right area). But at the end is a great game! Congrats! Keep making games! :fist:
Very cool game. A lot of work done here, and it could easily be extended to a bigger game! I like the open board with zones that give out different cards. I didn't really end up focussing too much on the cards, since it was fairly straight-forward to find the item and finish the quest. But the ground-work is there. And the music is excellent!
Overall I think your game is verry innovative and well done. Since we also developed a board/card game, I can see that you have a lot of the same issues. It is a bit overwhelming in the beginning with all the mechanics and you should focus on giving more feedback to every action that happens. I also think i encounterd a bug, because sometimes my handcards were randomly dissapearing, but I could not reproduce it reliably. Overall good job and well done especially for the limited time :)
some spaces/card effects discard cards from your hand @ausstein check your discard pile when your cards dissapear!
Managed to finish the game and enjoyed playing it even though at times I wasn't really sure what was going on! You've done a great job getting all this done in a weekend, the visuals are great, the music fits really well and I think a fully fleshed out version of this would be really fun to play! Some suggestions:
-The visuals on the dice don't fit with everything else, I think a more traditional look would work better.
-Some kind of indication as to what phase you're in/what actions you can take in the current phase
-Visual difference (perhaps different colour cards?) between cards you draw, cards that get played when you land on a square, and cards that are added to your deck.
-Clarificaiton on some cards, eg. one card says to discard a card to get +1 physical, I was expecting to discard a card from my hand, but I think it discards from the deck.
-Instructions on how to move the map
-Balance, there was a trial I encountered on the way to the boss which required the same dice rolls as the boss itself, surely the boss should be the hardest trial? Also theres nothing stopping you just walking around town to get a bunch of cards and stats.
@dreamingdice They were not in the discard pile, I looked for them :D also I had a card that discards other cards, but never played it. I think I tried to play some cards in the wrong phase, if you want to look into it, but as I said I could not reproduce it
Good game! the music is very well, the idea of a game with cards are very creative and hard (in my opinion).
The board game aesthetic was well done. I felt, however, that there is just too much information all at once. The game is short enough that you don't really have time to learn all about all the different cards and choices you can make. It made me feel like the use of the theme was holding the game back that I couldn't reshuffle my deck to revisit cards.
