genuinely enjoyed the game play here, it was quite hard. Only things I would have like is the option to quit the game mid way through when you realize you're going to lose and also be able to highlight multiple humans
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD44 → altar of a dark god

Very hard, but cool and unique concept! I really liked how you could tell how old someone was by the color of their hair!

Knights killed my entire village... How do I even defend against them?
I found out that I spend a significant portion of the game hunting for elderly people and sacrificing them before they die.
It's funny, here I was genuinely thinking I'd made the game way too easy! :D
FWIW, it's best to build smithies to arm your villagers against early knight attacks. Build them near where you see villagers congregating because they have a limited range. If you have to you can herd villagers in a direction you want by sacrificing some of them to scare the others.
Cool game with cool music and 3d graphics and i sacrifised all humans :)
Enjoyable game, not too easy, not too hard. Feels very cool thematically as well!.
Just lovely :D Very compelling. I had stuff to do, but I could not stop playing
The gameplay features are really enjoyable, hard to put down and fits the theme accordingly. I would recommend removing the screen blur as it makes navigation a bit difficult to manage
Very hard but good game! It took me a while to figure out how to do things but i managed to get a good run before the knights destroyed my town. The dramatic music set the mood and i was actually very impressed by it! Great job!
I enjoyed it, well done
For your ugliest game it's not that ugly :)
The gameplay was fun, apart from selecting your followers which was a bit unresponsive, the music was excellent.
This is a great game :) I enjoyed the atmosphere. The graphics are oddly fitting in with the overall game.
Really cool apart from the inbreeding.
This was awesome! I think I'm addicted to it now!
It's a pretty difficult game, but I like the concept of it. I couldn't ever get really far in it though... Great job though!
Awesome, but a bit hard) Knights are OP 😃
Really fun game, by the end I had enough houses for over 300 people and enough graveyards and statues to no longer need to sacrifice anyone manually. I don't think the game is too hard, though it might be a good idea to start the game off with one or two houses and an early single knight spawn just to get people used to the mechanics.
Good game, but it's hard to follow all your citizens arround ! Knights are op boy ahahahah
@stevenjmiller good advice, thanks-- made me realize a lot of strategy games start you with a 'town hall' or something for a reason!
@skalex haha yeah, it was weirdly difficult to prevent inbreeding without affecting population growth in unintended ways, but I think I've figured out a way to deal with it...
I did it! I built five alters for myself! :-)
Minor bug, once you build the alter, the 1000 are not taken away from you, that means I can build however many alters I want before the game over screen appears.
I like the statistics at the end, I love it when games like this give you a statistic. Seeing what evil you did is very satisfying.
I have to say, it took a couple of tries to find the right strategy. Once I found it, it took just about the right amount of time to finish the game. Very nice balance curve!
The graphics are cool, I love programmer art :-) Nice blur effect for everything outside your focus. Although people's hair changes to gray when they get very old and are only a few seconds from dying, some random hair colors already resemble gray so much that it is hard to tell by looking at someone how old they are. My motto, like in real life, is "kill everybody over 50" but that was hard to do. I had to click on people, they jumped a lot, have small hit boxes and that makes it kind of hard on your wrist to get through the early game. Later it does not matter as you can mass sacrifice your way through to the end.
The game play is simple but the game is hard, that is how I like it. Everything is clear, nice interface.
The music gets repetitive very fast and I would have liked it to have more meaning, e.g. only get the loud drums out when the knights actually arrive. Beside that, some sounds for people giving birth, dying and doing all the other things they do would have made for an even greater atmosphere.
Overall a very cool entry, keep up the good work!
P.S. I found you by going through the comments on [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/computers-in-a-nutshell#/comment-367842). You said that my game did not run for you. However, the error messages are part of the game. I hope you come back to it and give it another try. Although the comments are the most important part to me, I would still be disappointed to get a bad score just because I did not make it clear enough what my game really was :-)
@gonutz Thanks so much for the kind words and detailed feedback! And thanks for the heads up, I will try to take another look at your game, then. Don't worry, I didn't leave a bad score! I figured the problem was either compatibility or me not understanding what was going on. :)
I actually worked a bit during the holiday here on a post compo version of this that improves a bunch of the exact problems you mentioned here (hit boxes, accidental gray hair, more tonally appropriate 'idle' music), as well as click-drag selection of NPCs, better camera controls, and some other stuff. Still haven't bothered to fix the multiple altar bug though, haha. I guess it's harmless and kind of funny.
There's of course the larger issue with the inverted difficulty curve that will take a lot of tweaking to get right (and a zillion other ways to improve this), but between work and more long-term projects I'm not sure I'll ever get back to this game. I'll try to at least post what I've got, though. :D
