Your itch.io page doesn't seem to work :/

kunonooni 2018-12-03 19:32

@wskilljoy What happened when you tried to run the game? I just tried it myself and it seems to work for me. I did notice it was in daft status and I have switch it to published now.

itch.io page seems to be working fine now. Yeah while a page is in draft mode it's unavailable, I had the same issue myself. Nice job!

zhorky 2018-12-03 21:40

It's a nice idea, even though it feels like the choices don't really matter. I honestly think that this game would be more enjoyable in a console window, just because it feels somewhat analogous. Nice small game.

dwam 2018-12-03 21:49

It's an interesting little game. While the concept is interesting, there are some things that could use refining.

* There are long periods in which the player is forced to sit back and wait without any interactor or any visual indicator as to how long a task will take. The first time I selected a job, I genuinely believed the game had frozen. I would suggest shortening the amount of time needed for the next "turn" to take place. * The game's concept of sacrifice could be framed a bit better. It sort of gives the impression that you're picking up freelance jobs that are available. Therefore, your choice feels less like "Pick 1 option, at the cost of another" and more like "here's two jobs, pick one, the other one will just have to wait for someone to take it at some other point maybe". There's also the fact that the monetary value between the two jobs, along with the risk of pirates, is generally the same. * A potential way to avoid this issue could have been by making the two options somewhat related. For example, have one option be supplying a group of rebels that feel like they've been opressed by a cruel dictator with guns at a low payoff, *OR* delivering something to that same dictator for a higher reward. * This is a minor complaint, but it would've been interesting to have a still image of stars be placed between the two sidebars, just to help give off that space-feel. I'd also suggest expanding the box around the ship, just so that it doesn't look so cramped in it.

Either way, a neat little effort that I feel like a story-based game could be built from.

I like the idea, it fits the theme well.

I wish the actions didn't take so much real time with little feedback. Eliminating some of the waiting, or at least adding a progress bar or something else of interest, and getting back to making decisions might improve the experience.

All of the choices that I saw seemed to be of a similar format. Maybe I got unlucky or didn't play long enough, but a bit more variety might be good.

Making difficult risk-reward choices is a good core mechanic, accentuate that as much as possible.

andrea 2018-12-04 17:05

Very cool idea, and interesting development xD I agree with both previous comments about adding a progress bar, even just in the terminal in ASCII. Well done!

ale 2018-12-04 21:50

I'm going to agree with everyone else and say that you should definitely add some kind of progress indicator.

Aside to that, nice work! I liked the music and sound effects. The choices seemed pointless since escaping from space pirates is easy enough that it doesn't matter. The only way I lost was because I didn't notice that my fuel was low when I accepted a job lol. Maybe if you made the pirate encounters kill you instead of just damaging your hull, it'd feel more intense/meaningful when you're approached by one.

Also, I got stuck when I tried to repair my ship while I had full health.

frank-gevaerts 2018-12-05 23:55

I like the idea, and I think it's reasonably well executed. I agree with those who say that maybe there's too much waiting, and maybe time between actions could be shortened in exchange for a higher credit goal.

lmb 2018-12-06 00:41

Very nice music, I especially liked the "victory theme"! One thing I didn't enjoy was having to wait some seconds for actions to complete. Also, nice writing!

deathray 2018-12-06 02:48

I wish there was a toggle for the music. I like the idea of the game, and think it could be expanded on to be a good game.

thomas-bringer 2018-12-06 10:04

The soundtracks are cool, and the game concept is fun. The waiting time can get annoying, though. Also, after trying to repair my ship when it doesn't need to get repaired, I can't do anything else. Still, it was a fun game, congrats! :D

budark 2018-12-06 14:01

really love compo games. I respect you for all work you have to do alone man/woman. RESPECT

kunonooni 2018-12-07 04:59

First and foremost I want to thank each and everyone of you for playing and rating my game!

@Zhorky - I was trying to play on the heartstrings of the player. The premise of the game is this: "You have been a space trucker for many years. Everyday you haul shipments which can save the life of those who need it. Unfortunately, for every life you save there are others that die. You can’t save them all, so you have to decide who to sacrifice." So who do you save and who do you sacrifice? Do you deliver the shipment of medicine to a group of settlers or a heart that can save the life of a child?

@dwam - 1) I do agree, I should have given more feedback to the player to let them know what was going on. 2) I guess I could have given more backstory for the player. No you're not a freelancer, you work for a hauling company that specializes in shipments of life saving items. You are presented with 2 job offers, one for delivering a shipment to help many people and one for delivering a shipment for a single person. Whichever job you do not choose goes undelivered and the person or people needing the shipment die. The monetary difference in the jobs is because the shipment for the multiple people is larger. As for the risk of the space pirates, I do believe that is a bug I never addressed. It's suppose to be random for each job but someone its always the same for both. 3)That is a good idea, to be honest I never thought about doing that. 4) When the ship is moving there are some stars in the picture, but I do get your point and it is a good one.

@justalocalhero - Yes, I do agree more feedback to the player was necessary. Nope you were not unlucky, there were 2 types of jobs one for helping multiple people and one for helping a single person.

@andrea - I do agree with adding more feedback.

@ale - I noticed trying to outrun the space pirates was a little too easy myself. With all I was dealing with I never got a change to address it. Also the space pirates were added to act as a level of difficulty. Oh and they can kill you if your hull or engines reach 0% or you run out of fuel while engaging them. Getting stuck while repairing at 100% hull is a bug. I verified it a few minutes ago. I saw the problem but I do not believe I can fix it because it is easily avoidable.

@frank-gevaerts - I originally had the credit goal at 20k, but decided that was too much for an LD Game.

@lmb - Yeah, I love that type of music too and I used autotracker to make it.

@deathray - actually there is a toggle, I just forgot to mention it when I initially posted the game. I did at it to the bottom of the description right above the NOTES from the Author. If you hit the ESC button you'll get an option menu that allows you to change the volume of the music and the sound.

@game-mon - Yeah I checked and it's definitely a bug. I had reworked how the get fuel and repair ship buttons worked and I forgot to get rid of the disabling of call dispatch button. Not sure I can fix it though as it is easily avoidable.

@budark I appreciate the kind words and I agree 100% I too respect each and every person who submits a game for the compo and the jam as well. To give up a whole weekend and create a game from a theme is amazing. I've watched it happen since LD 22 when I first entered the Ludum Dare, I've seen some absolutely incredible games come out of each and every LD. Some of them are then refined, and brought out on Steam which is mind blowing to say the least. So yeah, I have a ton of respect for each and every one of you.

fashionbatman 2018-12-31 07:39

That music is really cool! I always appreciate that most in comp games. I didn't enjoy the waiting like so other people, but you still did great work overall. Great job!
