I suck at this kind of games, but this one got me hooked. I got to open the beehive but that damn bear is always catching me. I'll give it another try tomorrow when I'm more awake. Nice job on the narrative, is captivating. Congrats on the entry!
Good job! I really like this kind of games

Not favorite game type but its look good
Wow good job, I haven't played a text adventure in years. Very enjoyable.

It has the potential for a good story, but I couldn't figure out what to do after I got the boots.
@piter @rexpeppers thanks! @djn did you try typing help or hint? There are some hints about the boots there
Pretty cool! Certainly not a type of game you see every day.
@cincerteri thanks!
It is a very quick game, but it is enjoyable throughout. The help system was appreciated, as I needed help to know what actions were possible at any point. Handling the bear was a neat puzzle I have not seen in text adventures, but it was the only puzzle that was interesting once the glass area was reached. The treadmill was an odd red herring as it appears to do nothing. It was more of an offering game than a sacrifice but it is close enough. I really liked the funny quips from attempting something wrong. Good job overall!

This felt a bit more polished than your last entry, though it did feel like there was less to do. The sacrifice mechanic in this one shines through, and I ended up with having two honeycombs for Aponuo, so I felt like I did a good job of managing the bear (though I did abuse undo a bit to try some various things). I want the version where I get to the temple, eat the honeycombs, and renounce my faith in the oppressive wax sculpture, but perhaps that's asking too much.
@toppervideogames Thanks! I agree it is a bit short on puzzles. The treadmill is a reference back to my ld42 entry, so if you're one of the 99% of LDers who haven't played that, yes, it is weird (and maybe I should have thought of a better way to integrate it). In LD42, there was an entirely useless shoehorn which was near the treadmill which had a use. I'm glad you liked the help system!
@incobalt yes, for some reason last time I ended up with more stuff to do even though this time I spent more time on it. I just couldn't come up with proper puzzles. I think what I need is ld42's inspiration and ld43's sleep schedule :) I wasn't entirely convinced that being able to die was a good thing, but then I figured you could really only die fairly near the start of the game, and in most cases undo would save you, so using undo is certainly something I expected people to do. I wish I'd thought of eating the honeycomb to spite Aponuo!
I haven't played a text adventure in ages, so it was neat to see one in a game jam! That said - I haven't played a text adventure in ages, so take this all with a grain of salt!
The bear ended up being pretty frustrating to deal with, because I would take meta-game actions (Like listing my inventory), or try to take an action which was not allowed by the parser ("break beehive"), which allowed the bear to catch up to me and eat me. I'd suggest only progressing the bear when "real" actions are taken, as opposed to moving it with every command entered.
I was also a bit stumped on the beehive until going into the help menu - It was strange that "break"ing the beehive was parsed correctly (But not allowed), but "open"ing it was the correct answer - I wouldn't normally think of beehives as something that one opens up without breaking them. Likewise, the fact that I had to drop the honeycomb, when "give honeycomb to bear" was correctly parsed (But refused) was frustrating, as it felt like an unfair death.
Because the game parsed these commands properly and had a unique response for them (but chastised me and disallowed them) implied that taking those courses of action were incorrect. Because these weren't parser errors, it was as though the game was telling me "I understand what you want to do, but you cannot/should not do it", so I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the correct solutions, before going to the help menu and discovering that I just needed a different verb.
@ild-games-llc thanks for the feedback! These detailed comments are really helpful, as I'm not very experienced with writing this sort of thing (this is really only the second time. I've experimented a bit with inform7 years ago, but never finished a game until ld42).
Yes, meta-actions should be skipped by the bear (not just for the hunger thing, also for moves). I knew that when I was implementing it, and I should have spent more time on figuring out how to do it properly.
The beehive - well, I guess I was mostly thinking modern man-made ones that you can open and take the honeycombs out of, while I guess you were thinking of either natural ones or less advanced ones, which is probably more fitting for the game. Next time...
The giving food to the bear response is one I specifically wrote. Maybe it should have been a bit more detailed and had a hint about dropping it instead (or maybe I should just have allowed giving it directly...)
I've never really played this sort of game before so I stumbled through it a bit, but I did have fun. Maybe due to inexperience, but there were a few commands that felt inconsistent maybe in part because of the wording. For example, when I found honey and tried to take it, it then said there was none until I reworded it again. Just small things like that. Otherwise, very enjoyable. Good job! ^^
@frank-gevaerts Glad that the feedback was helpful! I also realized that I never said that I enjoyed the game, so I also wanted to pass that along! I tend to get pretty nitty gritty digging into details, so hopefully the feedback didn't come across as too negative!

I really like the ending. =) Wonder what would happen if I spent all the honeycombs on a bear.
Didn't guess a couple of verbs, so _help_ section was pretty handy. As a linux terminal nerd I appreciate games like _Kill the Wumpus_ or this one. Found myself bashing Tab for auto-complete and OF COURSE I hit Ctrl-W a couple of times. XD Great game!
@yngvarr thanks! If you did that, you'd get a nice hint about how to fix the situation :)
Maybe you could have downloaded the game file and run it with a standalone interpreter for better ctrl-w proofing! :)
i uh, got eaten by 1000 bears. aAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
@commanderstitch great! The bear likes eating, so it should be happy now :) Did you figure it out in the end? Did you try the help?
Oh man, this feels so old-school in just the right way! This time I fared better than with your last game, still I got stuck. But I will prevail when my flimsy attempts are not recorded ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTeUPXVSPps
Nice game good job
