Wish i had someone here to play with!

This is really fun and cool game. However one thing is annoying ;) if you stuck in diagonal part of terrain and sometimes you need to go back to move forward again but there is waiting bomb... :)

gibletsofjesus 2018-08-13 16:45

Game has been updated! Collisions should now behave much better :)

2018-08-13 17:36

Did you still complete it within the Jam time requirements?

gibletsofjesus 2018-08-13 17:42

I thiiiink so, I mean that game got made in less than 72 hours so I think I'm all good

2018-08-13 17:49

If you worked on it inside of the timespan of the jam (from 6pm EDT friday to 6pm EDT today) then that is fine, otherwise it is against the rules. Even if you used less than 72 hours, it is still unfair to the people that have other stuff to do throughout the weekend that they have to work around.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I didn't work the game at all today (apart from 1 small bug fix) so I effectively treated last night as the deadline.

Time before was mainly spent doing generic tech anyway, never intended for it to be a LD entry.

I don't have a second player but I love marching squares algorithms and terrain destruction mechanics so you have my vote!

@gibletsofjesus Your game is listed as a compo game now, so the deadline is yesterday at 6pm. I thought it was jam game for some reason.

If you make it a jam game and make a note of which parts were created before friday at 6pm EDT, then that should be okay under the rules. However, you are supposed to opt out of categories where stuff was made outside of the jam time. If you made a majority during the jam time, then listing what wasn't made during the time for raters to know what not to rate would be useful. :)

20 hours is a large amount for a compo entry, as it is hard to do more than that in only 2 days with eating and sleeping.

You could also mark it as an unfinished game to opt out of ratings.

PS. you are not supposed to make updates to the game after the deadline, if you do, you must keep the original one around for people to rate, and keep the updated one for people not rating.

Cool little game! I really like retro consoles; been meaning to play around with pico 8 fantasy console for a while. Most people who have tried it love it. (My entry actually targets the NES; I find the restrictions really help me make a good game)

I know it would've been hard given the time constraints, but having a 1 player mode with a dumb ai would've been really nice. I wasn't able to chase someone down to play this with, though I think it would have been fun. I like the simple graphics and the destructible terrain worked well. It definitely fit the theme.

That said, I agree with the others that this entry does not meet the requirements for the compo. I really encourage you to switch to the jam, or you may find that your scores reflect that fact.

Went to change game to Jam just now website is more than a tad slow D:

Will change to Jam tomorrow once I get the chance, thank you all for the kind words so far :)

rombus 2018-08-13 23:54

Oh man, this game is awesome for multiplayer. I'll see if I can get someone home to play it!

The attention to detail looks great here, congrats on the entry!

Cool game! I don't have a player 2 but I like the graphics, music, and destruction!

samh 2018-08-15 18:49

A nice, clean implementation of the idea, I especially like the 45-degree grid. Also I don’t often see custom fonts in PICO-8 entries, good, your menu looks a little different from all the others :-)

Things I would like: a better game over screen explaining what happened (it took me 5 tries to understand the rules, as I never played Dig Dug before), and obviously enemy AIs :-)

gibletsofjesus 2018-08-15 19:07

This isn't actually a custom font! If you use an external text editor like Atom or Notepad++, you can type in caps to get a smaller font in pico 8; https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=3217

The game set a nice 8-bit mood - good work there.

I wasn't even aware a dig dug 2 exists, even though I love dig dug. Thank you for bringing it to my attention

adrian0901 2018-08-23 13:40

Totally like Dig Dug 2. Would play again.

radical-dog 2018-08-23 13:50

Nice little project. I'd quite like it if you could fall in the water too, but that might make it too difficult and reward standing still.

gibletsofjesus 2018-08-23 15:38

@radical-dog This is something I did try and found it didn't make the game significantly more fun to play, just easier to lose. Appreciate your thoughts nonetheless :)

yami-no-tenshi-8 2018-08-23 20:56

Excellent concept and really polished entry ! You did a great job on it, congratulations !

roman-petrov 2018-08-23 21:21

I believe it's a fun game when you have someone to play with :) Nice little game, and my favorite PICO-8. Thumbs up! I would be happy if you also play and rate our game :)
