Can you make it less dark.
It's dark, and I'm sure how to build structures. I can chop trees and collect gold. If it were a little easier to play, I'd like it a lot more. Also, the "Running out of space" theme is just implied.
There wasn't much direction given, and I couldn't get my units to use ballistas. RTS was a HUGE genre to undertake in 3 days, I think that the game got very far along for that. A little bit of polish and more clear in game directions would really improve the game! Thanks for sharing!
I liked a mix of darkness and lights. It's quite interesting concept for me. Well done.
It game me a lot of fun! I like that in the game you need to expand quickly and start attacking other islands before they destroy you.
Na początku irytowało mnie, że chwile pograłem i zaraz mnie najechali i tyle. Dopiero po chwili zorientowałem się, jak trzeba grać. Ciachanie drzewa budowanie kopalni i wysyłanie axe-manów do pracy. Po czym farmienie najmocniejszych jednostek. Nie mogłem się oderwać od tej gierki. Puki co nie udało mi się jej przejść (jeszcze). Propsy za inwokacje z Pana Tadeusza
I couldn't manage to get any defenses built by the time the enemies arrive, so I couldn't really figure anything out.
Cool concept. I liked the atmosphere to it. It did seem like you may have took on too much for the jam, as it seems pretty buggy, and there didn't seem like much direction towards anything. I was able to build a couple things, but it didn't seem like anything else was happening.
@risist Hi there, The game looks really great from the screenshots but, unfortunately, I can't play it because I have a Linux OS. If you could publish it for web or Linux that would be great. If you do let me know and I will play and rate it. Thanks :)
The game look quite nice, but it need more polishing. Very ambitious game for a jam.
@furiouswitch yeah, we forgot about other platforms. Our bad. Currently you should be able to play on Linux too :)
@aaron-horrar @raiexgezz yes we can make it a little bit brighter. We are currently subbmiting other versions for various platforms with changed light. I hope you will enjoy it a little bit more now :)
@amba so we won competitition on the most ambitious game of the jam? Wait... there is no such a category :<
Honestly I love this, you put a lot together in a weekend and the game has all the pieces there, I think it just needs some tweaking. I pretty much just died in the first minute when a ship came and got me. But it's easy to pick up and play. Some more thorough instructions would probably help pick it up as well. Love it.
I have always sucked at these kind of games. I did manage to get like 24 gold before I died. I do wish it explained more what you are suppose to do at the beginning. Its still really impressive for a jam game.
I like seeing stuff I don't see tried much in game jams, and RTS I think falls into that category. Virtually impossible to complete a full RTS, and I think that this gave it a good go. I didn't actually think it was too dark, so I don't know if it was adjusted or if I just have different taste.
- Music could have looped better (was harsh) - spawning multiple units they would kind of stack - Warning on escape would have been nice, I accidentally closed the game once haha
Well done :)
Very cool game, much more than I thought was possible for this game jam: AI, long play time, and a fun RTS feel. Awesome job! The controls could be a bit more smooth, but overall really great work!
I personally love RTS games and thought it was cool that this followed that kind of idea, the game though i felt, was lacking in a bit of goal orientation and needs a bit more polishing on the instructional UI perhaps, the music was good too somewhat, until it gave into a harsh loop :(
but other than that, i think this was pretty good
Really liked the music, cool concept though.
Good game. I don't like very dark games (to me It feels like their trying to hide some imperfections throught the use of poor lighting), maybe a smaller game for next Jam will result in a more polished product at the end. Anyways I love RTS genre and even though it will take you a long time to polish, you're in the right path if your idea was to test some mechanics within the boundaries of the ludum dare's theme. I wish you good luck.
The music was really nice. One improvement could be to make the game brighter, or maybe have a setting for that, since some people might like the dark.
From the technical front, the game is pretty neat. It's got a landscape, vehicles, units, AI, resources, scrolling, combat, menus, and building. Sure, it has rooms for tweaks and improvement, but it's all definitely working and completely playable.
All that said, I didn't particularly have fun playing this game. It could be that this game is intended as more of a sandbox or clicker and just isn't a game for me. If so, please don't mind the rest of this post, because I'm going to assume you were aiming for something a little more RTS.
With all the elements that need to be brought together to play the game, how is a beginning player meant to get started? Do they know how to select units? Do they know how to identify different units? Do they know what the different units are for? Do they know what to expect when a ship comes to attack?
On the strategy front, is there a reason that the builder doesn't do anything besides build, or conversely, that every other unit is capable of doing everything else? Are there any trade-offs between the "everything else" unit types, or are they effectively axe man lvl 1, lvl 2, lvl 3? Except for occassionally building a mine, what reason would I ever have to do anything besides building lvl 3 axe men?
I'm picking on these things in particular because it looks like you built everything you would need to get started. If I ran into this game outside of Ludum Dare, I wouldn't have played past my first death. To get me started playing, I'd bet those menus could be easily repurposed to point a couple things out. To keep me playing, just swapping around some of the unit skills would probably do the trick. Maybe only the builders can mine, then I'd have to decide between ramping up how quickly I'm building and having enough axe men around to keep me safe.
I hope you find this feedback helpful.
Awesome work! I hope to see future game jam submissions!
So I played the game and it is obvious that you put a lot of work into it. The game has great potential but I think for 3 days jam it is impossible to finish. Regardless, I think you did great. I liked the graphics a lot and the harvesting resources part was done correctly. I think the difficulty was too high which made it impossible (at least for me) to defeat even one group of enemies.
My recommendations: - Make the number of attachers progressive so for the first attack it's one enemy, so easily defeatable, then two enemies in the next attack and so on. - Make your players attack automatically when enemies are within certain distance. - Make your players start with bigger numbers - Increase the players' number with time or when you capture more land.
I like the style of the game and it reminds me of "Stonehearth" if you know it. Wish you the best of luck. If you decide to keep working on it let me know of the game's progress to check it :)
haha RTS in 3 days, much ambition here :) Nice work on the engine. So far i did'nt manage to produce units, or to win any fight, but, nice performance! Well donne!
Really well done with the camera and the overall feel and art style of the game , had some trouble with gameplay and couldn't get to building but was a nice effort!
