What a shame that you didn't make it! :( Keep it up. I would love to see the game when it's finished. The graphics, sounds and theme are so great! So many possibilities to build. Do you think that you would be able to finish it after deadline and post it? :) Thanks!

I really enjoyed your game :-) Its the first game I've played on here in first person. It was really well done. I liked the particle effects and I definitely felt my anxiety rise in the darker areas! Awesome job on the 3D models and the graphics

Good effort! The disappearing tail of something going around the corner was well made. I feel the anxiety effect was too intense, putting you half-way through the floor and all - kind of broke immersion. Also asylums are a well worn out theme for horror games. There's a game jam dedicated to making horror games that aren't about mental health issues and the **asylum** (Asylum Jam).

Definitely cool. I wish there was more game to it, but the mood and the sounds were on point!

Okay !

So I downloaded and launched the game without reading too much about it, like I usually do, to keep the surprise. Well, it has surprised me for sure !

The ambiance is very well made. It's the first game of the jam that has afraightened me, the anxiety part, leveling with the obscurity and the running works well.

This great effect is alot based on the sound design, so that's a little sad that you could'nt make your own sounds effects during the jam. But the audio still does a great atmosphere.

For the gameplay, I didn't know what to do, so I wandered along the corridors, seeing it was like a maze, and got surprised at the first big sounds in the dark (wil not spoil what happens when you're too anxious, as the surprise plays a lot on th fear and the immersion). And because i didn't read, i didn't know that there were no goals, or end ! So I wandered into the maze along the walls, and... It deserved your game's cause. Why ? Because I was lost, couldn't find my way, I had the fear to be in a game that couldn't be finished, or worse, of not being able to escape from a mere maze. And so, the player's anxiety roze with the character's anxiety.

So, I don't know : the atmosphere is really good, the controls maybe a little too sloppy, even if that's more realistic it were maybe slightly too few maniability.. And the audio, especially with a surround headsetlike mine, works a lot. So, good job ! But maybe, because you used premade assets, the game could have suffered one more touch of originality, homemade thing ! Still good tho !

Wow, thanks for the great feeback so far! This is all stuff I'll be writing down and saving for later improvements! Thanks!

I really like the idea of using audio to communicate the mental state of the character. Audio is generally used to control mood, of course, and to create certain kinds of mental states in the player, but the explicit mapping of the player's mental state to the character's mental state, through the anxiety-level mechanic makes the audio feel like more than just a tool for setting mood but also a channel of information _about_ the character. I'm not sure I've seen anything quite like that before!

It's an interesting take on the theme, but I agree with some of the above comments that some more homemade assets could have personalized this a little more.

A good start. Sad to see it not get completed, but it happens to the best of us.

Good atmosphere, and a lot of potential.

This was a really ambitious project! I played on full screen and quickly got immersed in it. It's cool that you were able to convey that our own imagination and anxiety can play tricks on us!

james-dunlap 2017-12-07 02:51

Wow, that has to be the largest (285 MB) download I have seen in LD.

Sorry you did not get to complete the game as this is an amazing start. I can also say that I got stuck against the sink in one of the rooms and could no longer walk away, so collision detection seems to be a bit off there. Sorry, but I will not be judging audio (one of the best features) as I am not sure which assets were yours and which were not.

acoto87 2017-12-07 07:05

Despite the game isn't complete, I saw that was going in a good direction. At least, the primary objetive of speak of the anxiety in the game was sort of accomplished. The dark areas, and the hallucinations give the sensation at least. Good job, anyway, keep working on it.

shame you ran out of time, but thats the cool thing of a jam, you now have an idea and instant feedback on what works and what doesn't. I echo a lot of the things being said before. Nice work

baconinvader 2017-12-08 21:57

This had a lot of potential and it's such a shame you didn't get to finish this because what you have here is really well done and quite a unique idea that was very well presented, there is a couple of bugs with things such as when you are slowed down after the anxiety meter filling up, you can still move at the default walking and sprinting speed when moving left or right.

I'm rating this 4 stars because i think it was so well done and had lots of potential even though it was not fully completed, good luck in the future and have an amazing day!

bbrown 2017-12-11 04:20

Wow, thank you everyone for all of the positive feedback. It's really inspiring to see such constructive responses to something I was a little nervous about submitting in it's current state. You guys are awesome, thanks so much! While some have suggested continuing development on it, the game itself was something we simply wanted to work on for the Dare. We may re-visit the game at a later date but for now it's on the shelf as we've moved on to participating in 1GAM, and already have a new idea we're pretty excited about.

Thank you again for all of the support and positive feedback!
