I somehow didn't even notice the talk option at first! I just kept killing to get money so I could get recruits and kill more so I could heal by leveling up. Oooops.

But once I noticed the talk option I went almost full pacfist (just had to see what happens when one fights someone one talked to).

It's interesting.

Though does no one in this small world have friends?

@icecheetah I am planning to allow the AI to make recruitments as well. There is an updated version where I did some more balancing and took higher levels into consideration.

Updated Version Here: https://apps.facebook.com/1866662393588319

In the updated version, some AI can have a random chance of being hostile, or turning hostile after a conversation.

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dPr-ubTa3k

Very interesting game! I would add some complexity, maybe you can chose what to say and depending on this it could give you money or just nohing... maybe adding enemies or different kind of characters with different options.. I know it is too much for just a weekend, and anycase the game dinamics is nice. Overall, good job!

Very nice! I enjoyed playing this game and obviously you put a lot of effort in it. I hope you continue working on it because there is great potential there. Good job :)

P.S Thank you for rating my game :) By the way why does it say Ludum Dare 35 at the top of the start screen?!

calzep 2017-05-19 09:37

@furiouswitch haha i mentioned that in a blog post, it was a typo.. i had stayed up all night working on the game and i was really tired. I had also made a submission for LD35 so for whatever reason I accidentally typed that.

Nice, I like that I had the choice to be non violent (thought it took me way too long to stop shooting everyone). Also I love the cascade chain when you start shooting someone and that someone mistakenly shoot someone else :D

Well done! At the beginning, I was kind of hoping to be able to hire more than one guy at once, and be followed by an army of bodyguards. Really enjoyed the cascading chain too

Okay very cool, I think this is the most unique game I have tried so far. I took your advice and walked around - cool mechanic that you can choose to talk or shoot, but once I got shooting I kind of got addicted. lol! Made me laugh, anyways, great job!

I'm not sure if maybe my version had something broken in it -- but talking didn't actually have any effect. They would turn from light gray to dark gray and I would get money, but no dialog occurred. It made talking seem to have little impact on the overall game.

Shooting felt good although the AI was pretty bad at taking shots at me so long as I didn't aggro the entire screen.

Graphically speaking, I don't mind the sprite used for the characters, but some kind of textured background I think would have gone a long way. Sometimes its difficult to tell if you are moving at all (if no one else is on screen, or they also happen to be moving in the same direction). Doesn't need to be anything fancy, but something that makes it easier to tell how fast I am moving.

Overall I feel like its an interesting idea that you were going for; having a bunch of people that you can choose to talk or fight with -- but I wish that talking or fighting had more consequence. For example, maybe you could make friends by talking with certain people enough (or talking to their friends as well). This would serve as another way to 'hire' someone that doesn't cost money. They might then help you out in fights that occur near them but don't physically follow you around. Really anything to add a little depth to the game besides left or right clicking on everyone.

Either way, I enjoyed it. Thanks for making it!

__EDIT__

I can't help but notice that your game shows 'Ludum Dare 35' on the title screen. Whats the deal?

Pretty nice. Good mood. The music was pretty dope! I wish there wasn't a limit on how many people you can recruit. And some procedural dialogue would have been nice, too.

ectucker1 2017-05-20 01:06

Not bad. The movement felt a bit of, some animation and better art would help with that. Fights can get tough if you accidentally hit extra people. The main thing the game lacks is a reason, why is everything happening? Why do I get money for talking to or killing someone? It just seems kinda arbitrary.

harry-alissavakis 2017-05-20 01:16

You had a lot going on there, which was pretty interesting! I liked the art-style, even if it was a bit simple. The music and sound effects were also really good. My only complain is that the shooting was with the right click, and, being in Opera browser, while I was shooting I was opening and closing tabs :P Other than that it was a really solid entry, well done! :D
