Nice art!

Nice entry!

I'm a big fan of your take on the visuals; the connection to the theme is a bit of a stretch but the lighting did a great job of communicating the isolation and cramped feel of the boat. Top marks on graphics/mood for sure!

On that note, I would've liked to see a bit more perspective in the environment. The boat had an interesting pseudo-3D effect to it, but the landmarks were all fairly static. I think you could have really pushed the pseudo-3D by having the layers offset slightly based on their distance from the boat.

Some criticisms:
-It felt a bit strange using an orientation based compass with a fixed view. I think it would have made more sense to use directional markers on a circle around the boat or possibly a minimap style interface.
-The little text pop-ups showing the captain's thoughts were a nice touch, but could have probably been used more effectively if there was more of a narrative and a conclusion beyond "you found the things, thanks for playing"

The art style was beautifully well done, and felt almost enchanting

First of all, I really like the graphics!
Sound is ok too. It is kind of fun to play, and, dude, that lightning scared shit out of me!
Good job ;)

What Sean said. Plus the atmosphere and sounds are remarkably good.

I enjoyed the little diversion. The art style was nice and the whole experience was a relaxing one. It was slightly jarring when the lightning would strike though. Sort of a mood whiplash. I had thought that there was going to be something building because right before I got my last artifact I saw my first submarine.

Nicely done!

Cool visual style. You did a good job with the ambientation, but controls could be more responsive. Nice game overall.

Really good job on graphics and mood. Simple audio feets well.
With a good story, it would be a perfect entry!

(Oh and you don't set your file as windows on itch, so we can't use itch app to play it...)

Tried to emulate it on Linux using Wine. Says "cabinet is not valid". As far as I know this could be solved by including the dll's the program requires.

@dunin
Fixed!

@tinyworlds
Seems to be a problem with GM:S games, but I will see if it can be worked around.

This game looks beautifull. It feels really polished. I love the reduced color palette and all the smooth dithering going on. Well done!

Very lovely mood! I'd be interested to see where you could take it with another 72 hours, or a week!

The artefacts seemed quite... uninspiring :) It was nice to explore the space, but collecting pure-white blocks gets a little in the way of the narrative.

Would have liked some sounds upon bumping into things, and potentially a damage or disruption mechanic to deter bumping into ice bergs!

The terrain and especially the lighthouses looked lovely; and as someone else said, the lightning gave me a jump!

Well done!

I played the game to the end. It got me thinking of Tomb Raider but without the adrenaline. I liked the sound effects of the birds and the sea. The graphics was really neat and reflected the feeling of being inside the boat looking out through one of its small round windows even if the game was top-down.

It was quite slow and peaceful and in that sense it was a bit confusing that there was so much thunder going on. A while it felt like it was guarding the artifacts. Depending on the way you want to go with the game, I would either reduce those quite a lot or if this is to build up to a storm, that the waves would be felt on the boat and its direction. Maybe one could sink if one doesn't care for the direction of waves. But I get, that it is a lot to ask for a Ludum.

I enjoyed the narration and the navigation. But on one side I kind of feel like the world was a bit too large for the current content, on the other hand I did sail it to the end. So I'm obviously confused on that point.

Anyways, I much enjoyed playing it.

These are some good points you're all bringing up. Thanks so much. I do want to use some of these ideas if I ever decide to continue with the game :D

I liked the graphics. The lightnings were a bit annoying after playing it for a bit. Maybe add turning while standing still?

etherealwhisper 2017-01-01 13:22

Great graphics and atmosphere. Level design could have had some better work put into it, since the whole gameplay revolves around exploration.
Nice job overall! ^-^
