Great graphics, thoroughly enjoyed it :D Really big file, but it makes sense. Lighting was done beautifully, and it really set the atmosphere. A couple scary ambient noises, and you would have me scared in my seat!
Nice little game. For your information, I don't think its ok for the compo on the sound of rain thunder and footsteps. I might be wrong.
Hello ! Game is finished when the Master arrives. I had no time to make an end screen.
Flygamer, actually I recorded some evil laughs with my mic but I had'nt the time to put some random triggers when you walk through the house !
For the weather sounds I don't know ! Maybe I could opt out audio or remove these totaly !
Wow you put a lot of work into this! It really shows! :) great entry!
Looks great!
It's not my kind of game, but I enjoyed, also the visuals and mood are pretty impressive, nice job.
Really short but nice. I really like the lighting, mainly in the first room.
I don't see why i'm a monster, but i really like those in the cage even if they are like plastic. I'm not a unreal user so i can't figure out the difficulty of making that, but it's really well polished, and i really like the simple UI.
Could have been a nice hide & seek game with this master that you don't have to seen.
Nice atmosphere! When the master arrives and screen turns black it wasn't really obvious that the game was over.
Very nice visuals and atmosphere. The voices were well done, very sinister. Also liked the plot twist at the end. Should have been obvious given the theme but it still surprised me.
It was however very irritating that I couldn't strafe. Strafing is so common in 1st person games that I tried to strafe all the time even tough it was obvious that it isn't possible.
Since you are asking about those rain, thunder and footstep sounds. Using them is definitely against the rules. Everything has to be made by you. So if you ask yourself whether you are allowed to use an asset in your game or not, the question you should be asking is "Did I make that asset?".
No one is going to police it but you really are giving yourself an unfair advantage by using these. It's ok to use assets made by others in the jam but not in the compo.
I hope I don't sound to harsh, I really think your entry is fine and since you were open about using those sound effects I don't see any malicious intent. I just tried to inform you about the rules :)
Hello Headmade ! Thank you for your nice constructive comment !
About the strafing, it's weird because I can strafe :P I changed the common input sheme (a,s,d,w) for (e,s,d,f) to solve qwerty/azery problems (I'm french so azerty here!).
About the sounds I used, after reading the rules again (http://ludumdare.com/compo/rules/), it says loops, textures, fonts, mask, samples and instruments are allowed if used in a derivative way. I edited the original sounds in a way that it adds to the visuals and atmosphere, so with the voices and visuals we get a complex soundscape. It is then a derivative work, maybe we can ask about the limits of this.
If it's still not ok for all people, I will opt-out audio !
Thing is if you don't go for the retro pixel art style, where you can use simple generated sounds with sfxr that suits the art style, and you go for more realist art style, you get quite limited with ambiant sounds for the compo, and I find this a bit sad. Don't want to launch a debate at all!
Anyway thank you for your constructive comment, that's the kind of comments I'm waiting for!
Sorry for my english, I'm french!
@manou Responding to your question under my game: I think using rain sound is on the same level as using BFXR. Instead of "random" parametrisation I just use samples which I cut, mix and process. This is the standard process of creating sounds so I think it fits the rules. The problem might be if you just use some samples without touching them. I think that everyone understands that you probably didn't go out and record the rain by yourself :) By the way my and your rain is quite different. All the rain sounds very similar though.
Love the atmosphere!
Game looks good, but I dont see why "I am the monster"
Thanks for explanations Split ! So as I edited the sounds (cut, filters) and make it a small loop, it looks ok? Thank you.
Hello cebollinos, you are the monster at the very end, when the Master comes in and make you part of his "collection". I just had a bug where I couldn't spawn the character inside a prison :/ so it's suggested with sounds/voice.
Thanks for the comments!
Looks great, cool atmosphere!
I'm sad I couldn't play, cause I'm on a mac.
I watched the video though and what amazing art. Is that Unreal? It gotta be.
Mood was good! Great job!
Yes it ! Gonna try to export for mac.
Definitely has potential and has a nice build up, though as of now the ending feels more like the game bugs out then ends.
Reminded me about one my older game ideas. Cool, liked "artstyle feeling" of your game. GJ
What is artstyle feeling ? :DD
Still can't export for html5 or mac guys :/
Very clever to use ESDF! Those wasd games are annoying, since switching keyboard doesn't seem to have any influence...
It's very nice (graphics + ambiance), but as other said, the end is so frustrating ^^' I restarted it, thinking this black pane could be a bug (in addition to this being quite abrupt, we can still see things on the floor and the ceiling), and finally read comments when it happened again...
I love the monsters design, wish it was a bit longer!
Thanks for comments guys, I'm doing Unity remake now !
The grapics are amazing! Wait the unity version now.
Impressive visuals - would love to see this fleshed out some more after the jam!
