This is a beautiful little game.
BUT MY GOLLY IT'S HARD.
I couldn't work my way to the end, but I'll give it another go in a few days. I'll repost my comments when I do.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD17 → On an Iron Isle

This was a bit too hard to be enjoyable, but I found it a good fan game nontheless.
I really love the death effect! It makes me not want mind dying cos it looks so cool
This game was like.. Mega Man in terms of difficulty. But it made getting past enemies a challenge, which makes it more fun. The recap of my gameplay was: evaluate bad guy, die, kill bad guy, move onto next, evaluate, die, repeat infinitely.
With that being said, it was fun until I got tired of dying.
Really amazing style, hard to believe you did this in the amount of time you say. I'm terrible at it though, and can't make it past the first screenful of enemies as the last dude gets me every time.
Two screens and then i get tired to die. =(
The graphics are fantastic!!! I am fascinated by the style, especially the tiles and the death effect.
Gameplay is prohibitively hard, however. I didn't make it past the third screen, even after killing the first snails
ps. it looks like you meant to add more underwater screens? It was so surprising that I didn't die outright when I explored there. Such a wonderful touch.
Very hard indeed. The aiming system is quite difficult to use, but the effects sure looked cool!
Hole feck, it's hard.
Well done, but hard. I loved the dying animation.
I was unable to locate the sourcecode for your game.
Wow, for real, I couldn't get past the first room of badguys. I seem to be in good company on that. Best I did was to get to the last one. I think I hit him 3 times once, so close. The death was cool, though. Definitely a vote for turning down the difficulty. I've played Mega Man, and this sir, is no Mega Man.
It's so hard! I loved the graphics and sound, the counting down battery and the atmosphere were right from the start, and I really wanted to climb the tower (after verifying that the underwater is not hospitable). I love how my heart robot does flips if I jump far, or how I explode when I die. But I don't like dying. I finally got to the third room with baddies, but got killed when I fell back down to avoid a fireball, back onto the crab I had just killed! Arg! The most frustrating thing about the rooms is not so much that they're hard, but you have to shoot the crabs so many times that there's lots of waiting for them to step on cracks to do it safely. If it was just about performing difficult maneuvers it would be fun to try, but the hard stuff with waiting in between encourages me to be reckless and impatient, which is frustrating. I didn't give up on most of the LD17 games I played, so this must be one of the hardest. :) Still, I liked it. Plays really smooth.
There was some nice touches here, but, GAH, the enemies are b-r-u-t-a-l!
Liked what happened when I fell off the island. Didn't understand the pink things in the slightest. The death animation terrified me the first time I saw it.
for an semi-abandoned game I've got to so congratulations, you've made a really smooth fluid platformer, the motion and animation is great for falling from great heights, the only thing I would say is the enemies take a lot of hits, but the game itself, superb! Really was like megaman, so very difficult :P
Great game, really hard, helped once I read the shift-key trick. Second checkpoint is EVIL!
