Interesting strategy game. The menu-based UI makes things a bit clunky, but overall good work for one weekend. =)
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD17 → Island Conflict

Interesting strategy game. The menu-based UI makes things a bit clunky, but overall good work for one weekend. =)
Cool game, I like the concept, but it seemed kinda easy for me to just get the AI stuck somewhere he couldn't move, and I really didn't like the movement and the whole menu thing. You could have inferred what the player wanted to do just by clicking (ie: click on empty land, move there, click on himself, claim the land, click on a tree, chop, and click on water, build boat). Still a good 48 hours game!
Liked the graphics and AI was pretty good for timescale. Only really let down by a lack of longer term strategic depth, and the clunky menu system. As xeon06 mentioned you can have inferred the actions, cut the menu entirely and ended up with a much better game.
More than 2 players might have opened some extra depth up.
Still, a good effort :)
I think people have mostly said what I had in mind. I see a very good base to start building on, this could become a very cool game!
Interesting concept. At some point, the enemy player just stopped moving. Also, the controls could use some hotkeys.
Good island generation and smooth graphics.
I didn't know how to cancel an action if I accidentally clicked an undesired menu item.
Some more variety in tile types would help, perhaps being impassible or "resource rich" ones worth more to your score.
Also managed to get the AI stuck, but it was pretty aggressive when still active.
Liked this, simple but fun stratey title. Felt well polished
Needs a back in the mini menu. AI got stuck for me so I won automatically.
I win 66 to 21. Pretty fun, I agree that it really could have used more players. Also, the AI is really very good, and the maps are usually such that there's no real way to block an opponent. So I sort of felt like I was more just looking for the biggest island and going there, rather than doing cool stuff to my enemy.
The menu system is a little annoying, but apart from that the strategy is pretty fun.
